Webspace isn't an issue. In fact, Venona has his own website, which never got used. At least, not yet. Check it http://home.attbi.com/~Venona. Venona also has a cutout email account and several other interesting items. You folks didn't even _start_ to do the tracing I thought you would. On the other hand, Venona was sloppy in a couple of ways. He learns fast, though! [This message was edited by fizzymagic on January 01, 2003 at 12:39 AM.] Ah .. OK, Visited Venona's webpage.. The warning sign is great .. a la Bill Dana .. Trish In God we trust .. all others, we monitor.
  2. quote:Originally posted by fizzymagic:If and when Hotfoot's event page gets approved, I'll post the whole story there. There are a lot of unknown details that will probably be amusing to people. I enjoyed the whole thing immensely. I hope everyone else did, too. I think we should have these sorts of things occur in our area every so often. If Hotfoot's event doesn't get approved, we'll figure out some other venue for The Real Scoop. If the event doesn't get approved, I have plenty of space available on my website, and can place a separate page for it.. Trish In God we trust .. all others, we monitor.

  4. quote:Originally posted by Mr. Rose:Its sortuf funny how even though geocaching has nothing that gives men a advantage over women in finding the geocaches, still, there are probebly much more men then women out geocaching. Why is that? Perhaps it is because men may have more discreationary income, and are more "gadget-oriented" , while women may be more "people-oriented" ?? Pardon the vast generalisation, however my first cache was an event cache, mainly to have a neat way to meet, and get to know other geocacher's in the area ... 5. I joined geocachers last april, and have been lurking for a while.. I don't expect to break any records as far as finding caches, but I plan to place my first cache over the holidays, and also place a "dead-drop" cache, like the type that spies would use years ago -- it will be a micro cache in an urban environment.. Trish quote:Originally posted by Squatting Dog:my wife got me started on geocaching. she'd come home from work where she picked up the hobby and tell me about it. for the longest time i couldn't wrap my brain around it. so finally i went out with her and her co-workers (the TD Lunch Bunch) and, viola! i was hooked as well. i still haven't found too many, though, as i still am the taxi-driver for all the soccer games and stuff. Have fun with this expirement fellow Geocachers. I will be tabulating the responses after 2 months. At that time I will start a male geocachers thread which will last for 2 months. Total time ofor expirement will be 4 months. TJWilson ------------------ I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it. In God we trust .. all others, we monitor.

Note that avatars don't seem to actually "take", until you not only log out and log back in again, but post a new message.. I deleted the older avatar that I was using and it would still show up in postings, even if I flushed the locally-generated page the is cached in the browser.. I then posted a brand-new message, and the newly-uploaded image started working.. Trish In God we trust .. all others, we monitor.

I'm still deciding on what type of avatar reprents my inner personality.. so far it is a toss up between: geoncs.jpg geovamp.jpg and geobride.jpg Testing.. Trish In God we trust .. all others, we monitor.
  9. If anyone has Monty's email address (The one that used to be at IBM, and was at the picnic) .. I'm totally blanking on how to get in touch with him... Hmmm... sounds like a "people cache" Any leads? Trish In God we trust .. all others, we monitor.

  12. Due to popular demand, and alternate site has been added to the silicon valley picnic cache .. The alternate will be in case the weather turns out dreadful.. A partial copy of the addendum to the cache is listed below: Addendum to special notice below: I've found an for our event cache in case we really get rained out on Dec 21st.. The only clue is that if you find the alternate site, you will be into some real dough: SPECIAL NOTICE AS OF DEC 15TH: I'll be going out today in order to identify an alternate meeting spot for lunch if the event cache gets rained out next Saturday.. I'm torn at the moment between just posting the alternate location here on line, or placing a clue at the event cache for people to find, in order to drive to the alternate lunch spot .. Perhaps I'll just do both, but a physical clue may get uprooted by the locals... Trish In God we trust .. all others, we monitor.
  13. I just read the blurb on the cache that was at Penitencia Creek Park .. Marty had an interesting idea regarding looking for caches at night when there is a full moon.. Hmm .. sounds like a monthly event if the weather is good on those evenings when the moon is full.. Hmmm a goth version of geocaching?? Trish In God we trust .. all others, we monitor.

I know these are two pretty obscure hobbies so I doubt there has been much crossover, but I thought I check... I thought it might also be interesting to get groups of geocachers together and have competitions or something. If we want to do this, we need to get an event cache posted to the site _pronto_! I met Johnnyb5 on the trail today and he really wanted to make the picnic last time but couldn't, so I know he would love to. Joani and I would love to as well. Any thoughts on where you might be interested in having it? --Marky "Everyone spends time in the darkness, dreamers learn to steer with a backlit GPSr" ----- Yes, I'll make a trip out to the site today in order to capture the lat/long and get a message out this evening when I get home ... date will be December 21st.. 19. Hotfoot writes: "Hi Trish, Picnic and Venona Jacqui and I are almost always ready for a picnic. Maybe you can help not only with Venona but with SF2062 and Syrinx also? Trish, have you looked for Double Agent yet? I see I just blew test number two. I thought FizzyMagic was going to be gone and if we heard from Venona we could eliminate Fizzy as the double. Mary has pretty well convinced me that Fizzy is not Venona. The means Lamneth is being nasty." -------- Well, I'm game in the next week or so.. will just keep an eye on the weather .. would prefer a Saturday around noon or so .. hmmmm thinking about Venona starts me wondering about ground-spikes for "dead drop caches" .. 20. Ammo cans would seem to be ideal, except for long-term storage .. They are steel, and will eventually rust .. The good-side is that they at least have a rubber seal in the lid assembly .. Does anyone place silica gel in their ammo cans, in order to absorb moisture?? Trish In God we trust .. all others, we monitor.
  21. Imagine a terrorist creating a cache site, and labeling their ammo can with the words "This is not a bomb", but in fact, it really is .. eeeek!! In God we trust .. all others, we monitor.
  22. Gee.. the cache was labeled with the geocaching info.. isn't this enough?? ... In God we trust .. all others, we monitor.
  23. I'm wondering if an event is the same as a temporary cache ... say, an event like a picnic or other outdoor party, where any gps-enabled geocachers can show up ?? Trish Tricia's website In God we trust .. all others, we monitor.
  24. Hello all .. My name is Trish (Patricia) and have decided to de-lurk after being a member on this site for a while .. Am interested in setting up a gps-based picnic in the Silicon Valley area in the next week or so, provided the nice weather still holds .. Hobbies are amateur radio, long-range target shooting, collecting books on the subject of espionage, covert ops, and the intelligence community (350+ volumes at the moment) .. Loved the thread about Venona .. watch out for Fedora! I've Pop'd this thread as it looks like it is both active and local .. (My partner and I live up on Mount Hamilton) ..
