  1. Keep trying and do not give up!!! My 1st find took me 4 trips (by myself) to find Next one, I wanted to find I went 3-4 times, no find, went and found 4 or 5 more, then went back and found it in just a few minutes... I'm working on one right now that I've been to 5 times (once with a friend) and I know I had to be standing within arms reach of it and still can not find it... I will re-attempt and eventually, I will find it... Once you find one, the payoff/satisfaction will be worth it.... By the 2nd or 3rd, you'll be addicteed.... Pay attention to the logs also... How long ago was the last time they were found??? Did many other people report having issue finding???
  2. Have seen and used both... Vote goes to the Colorado 400t...
  3. Well, I'm new to caching only a few months and maybe 30 finds so what do I know.... I have a Garmin, Colorado 400t, that I added a sim card and also got the 2010 Navigator street maps and loaded the whole country... I put all the latest patches and updates on my 400 that were not "Beta" and it seems to run fine... Eats Batteries pretty quick, so I always keep 4-6 extras in my pack... I don't really think I can sway you either way... You either like them and want one, or you don't... With the exception of the ""Paperless Geocaching"" feature, I think they all work pretty much the same... I've not used other GPS with the Geocaching site, so I'm not sure if they are as easy as one click to download a cache... I just plug my Garmin into the USB hub and hit Send to GPS and its pretty much done... All I can say is I really like mine and trust it... Even in dense cover, it always leads me to within feet of the cache... If I lost or damaged mine and hadd to buy another one, I'd get another 400t...
  4. http://www.catsupbottle.com/ A tad over rated I think...
  5. Dude, that was so perfect!!!! I love NCIS and Caching.... After I explained it to my wife (also an NCIS fan), she got a chuckle out of it too...
  6. MAybe they were into caching and all of a sudden got real busy??? I found out about geocaching durring a lull in life activities not long ago... Now some things at home are going on (nothing major bad) and work is really hecttic and picking up, so I have had very little tme to go caching latley even though I really miss it and want to go... Hence the reason I read this place so much...
  7. Welcome to the site and thanks for returning the cache to its spot and not just throwing it away!!! I love seeing a post like this one from you as I think many times L.E. get a bad rap from the media and a few people who have had run ins (caused by their actions)... Hopefully, this got you interested in Geocaching and you'll give it a try... Thanks again for the post!!!!
  8. Do you use the Map??? http://www.geocaching.com/map/default.aspx? Forgive me if you already know this, but If you have a login and use the map, put in your Zip or a ZIP of where you want to search it will show you an Icon on the map of where every cache is in that area and what type... You can then click on said Icon for more info and the ability to load the cords into your GPSr... After you have found one, or several and logged them online... Go back to the map, The found caches will show up as smileys .... Unless you check the box that says hide my finds... I pretty much have 3 areas where I cache (will cache others as I make my way to them or get the chance) 10 Mile perimeter around my house 10 Mile perimeter around my office 30 Mile perimeter around my Cabin out in Southern Missouri Anyway, I went to each of these on the map and bookmarked them, so I can go back to them with one click I name the bookmarks GeocachingMap-Home GeocachingMap-Office GeocachingMap-Cabin etc... I know my GPSr supports ""Paperless Geocaching", but I print out each caches page that I plan to go to... Kind like trip sheets... I put them in the order I think we should be able to find them, then when we have found them, I log, who was with me and any details I want to remember to log on the site... After I've got home and logged them, I put'em in my filecabinet under Geocaching-Found... One that we could not find or did not get to, I put under the dreaded Geocaching-DidNotFindYet Everyones got a different system, but the above seems to work well for me and anyone I take with me... I still consider myself pretty new, so I'm sure the process will evolve as I learn new tricks and ways...
  9. I go caching by myself alot, but I do have two or three good longtime friends that I like to take from time to time... I go by myself alot as the others don't have the time when I do or just don't want to... My wife and daughter won't go as there's no Air Condition in the woods and there are too many important shows on Cable each night.... God kknows I've invited them many times and still continue to do so...
  10. 1st, if you have to ask... It just might be... 2nd... I think no matter what you do someone will be offended for some reason... I say go for it...
  11. Most annoying thing about Geocaching to me is not getting to go Geocaching..
  12. Cool to see they are still roling out newer code for the Colorado... I vote that there should be a new thread for it Same manner as the last one... Colorado software version 2.95 Beta Thanks for posting this guys... I haven't put any beta code on mine as I only do General Release, but I am watching these updates threads with great interest...
  13. I've been in this situation a few times... Once I sent the C.O. an e-mail and asked if he could just verify for me that it was still there where the Cords said it was... As I thought I had been to the spot three time and could not find it... Also, someone right before me logged it a DNF... The C.O. replied assuring me it was still there, so a few days later I went back out and walked right to it... Funny how that happens... I've got three that that are killing me that should be really easy..... One is smaller than a Micro and says you need tweezers to get it, but no luck... I'll be back at'em again as soon as I go offa being ""On Call"".... Nothing sucks worse (well not much) than to be trapsing through the woods and get called...
  14. Take multiple people and find a target (cache) rich enviorment and rack'em up... I almost think you'd need to split up... I see how you can find a pretty good number in a day, but I still don't see a hundred.... Seems to me like you would not have time to record them or be able to recall them all... I'm not saying its impossible, just hard for me to see me or my lil group doing it.... Most I could see us getting in a single day is maybe 20-30, 40 would really be reaching....
  15. Found it!!! Whoever is 1st to point it out gets to sign the log 1st ...
  16. So Ran it, it emailed me a .zip file with two files in it 3121137.gpx 3121137-wpts.gpx <--- Two questions 1st, Whats with the -wpts.gpx 2nd I'm assuming I copy these to my K:\Garmin\GPX (folder)????
  17. I don't know about where you all are, but todays weather, You could not have asked for better.... Sadly, I was on call, and got called several times, so NO Geocaching for me....
  18. Naa, there are some spots of sorta run down areas, but nothing really Ghetto or bad... If you pick any of the better known hotels you'll be good... I live like 25 minutes from that area, I'm around there often...
  19. This thread is teh Win!!!! Seriously, great thread folks... I love it...
  20. For me it depends on alot of things... How much time do I have, how far apart are they, etc.. I normally like to find about 3-5 a day or trip out... But that depends on how much time I have and how far apart they are... I mean if you end up hitting a park or trail that is a cache rich enviorment, I could see rack'em up if your on a roll... But I really like the hikes looking for these take me on... For several reasons, I like the outdoor sceenery and Honestly, I'm lazy... Finding the cache gets me motivated to keep walking, where as I would not otherwise....
  21. Agreed.... I've had the same exp several times when a a few friends with Geomate Jr.s and i were out looking for the same cache... Several time they were like, Mine says it 1.3 miles this way... When my 400t said it was a different amount of distance to spot and a different direction... Most of the time say another 100 yards or so, they all lined up...
  22. I know its not a geocaching question, but I figured with the expertise we have on GPSrs that is around here, if anyone knew how to do it, it would be here... Whats the best way to make POIs from the Addresses of Several Sites, not Cords (Lat/Long)???? EX: Site 1, Site Name, Street Address, City, State, ZIP Site 2, Site Name, Street Address, City, State, ZIP Site 3, Site Name, Street Address, City, State, ZIP Site 4, Site Name, Street Address, City, State, ZIP Site 5, Site Name, Street Address, City, State, ZIP Site 6, Site Name, Street Address, City, State, ZIP etc... Then save them as some kinda file for my Garmin Nuvi??? list.csv or list.gpx ???? Most of the tools that I have seen to make POIs all seem to want the Lat and Long... I only have the address.... I'm guessing there is a way, I just don't know how to do it yet... Then, I put it the appropriate folder and I should see the on the map or be able to choose each one from a list like Favorites or POIs or something... BTW, these are going on my Garmin Nuvi 760 if thats of any use...
  23. Where does one find an ammo can such as that??? I mean to purchase...
