  1. File the NA and let the reviewer handle the situation. Unless someone does community maintenance thats where this is headed.
  2. Initially I was in the mode I had to find them all. Well fortunately I have realized this is not feasible nor even desirable to me. So I have a set of priorities. 1) Love challenge caches. So I'll seek them out and also search for ones that help with challenges when I travel. 2) Slowly I am clearing out my immediate area of traditional caches one at 5.5 miles and 35 at 10 miles. Considering right now there are 658 I hope I make it before I move. 3) While traveling definitely like to get new counties/states/countries. But really only need one or what is convenient. 4) Look for ones that bring me to interesting places specially along road trips. With Covid spent a lot of time in the middle of nowhere and the app would help tell me where to go a see something special. Never was a huge fan of long hikes, but don't mind the short ones. For me caching is usually a solo activity with a dog or two. Occasionally a kid or a friend. Love forest and country roads, rain or shine.
  3. The investment in some extreme challenges in time, gas, and effort can be significant. Only qualifying after years of effort. Initially I only signed challenges after qualifying. The problem is yes I want the reward of the smiley. Seeing many caches become archived prior actually signing happened more times than I care to admit. So doing thing this way only allows the major finders who have enough caches found to qualify early in the cache lifecycle. So I will only work on challenges that I have presigned. If challenge caches were it's own cache type. GS could do a lot of things to keep things consistent. But that will never happen I fear. I don't plan on ever doing a streak again after 423 days I gave it up and was so happy to have control of my life back. I found caches on every day, with the flu, ice storms, Christmas. Saved nearby LPC for emergencies. Prefound a few hard ones (Looking back I suppose that was cheating but visited again to sign) Does not really matter this is all about my enjoyment no one elses. Which is why not a fan of streaks any more. Do what you makes you happy.
  4. I'm all about the work around. Getting closer to qualifying. HHL like your spy vs spy. Sad to hear about the mad magazines artist passing the other day.
  5. Thanks for the suggestion. Fortunately I had no finds on the 1st and 2nd. So the statistics work for me. I was keeping track on a note previously. I suppose you could review your found logs for the 1st and 2nd then subtract from statistics. From the blog: This challenge is all about seeing how many caches and Adventure Lab® Locations you can find in a month Easier to get the Adv Labs picked up 4 today in 10 minutes with a short walk around a block on one.
  6. You can use Project-GC Map compare to just yourself. Problem is it will only display 3000 caches. So you can then split your find using multiple "From/To"
  7. I occasionally, only recently, have this same issue. My work around is to copy my post. Kill the app and restart the app and paste my saved text and post. Seems more random to me as the second time I'm able to submit. I should add this happened to me twice in the past week, including today. Caching in urban area no issue with cell coverage. The Post button is white, as opposed to opaque, and pressing post does nothing like it is not really there.
  8. Your cell phone will do just nicely but you can always buy a dedicated device. There was a time these devices were far superior, but I've used my various iphones for the past 10 years no problems. I'm sure others may disagree so it probably is a personal preference thing. Today decided not to go caching. Weather outside is hard cold rain after a warm sunny day yesterday. So warm clothes and a rain jacket we do not use umbrellas in the PNW. Sorry to plug a local brand but drove by Columbia's main campus this morning. They make great waterproof/resistant jackets though they can be spendy, It helps this year my son participated in a marching band competition at the high school adjacent to their campus and our admission included a visitors ticket to the employee store. Score! Some finds may require a it of bush wacking. So finding in the summer wearing shorts might not be the best idea.
  9. I'd classify myself as maybe obsessed with geocaching. When I'm with non-cachers I'll usually limit my activities to one or two specially if they are on the way. But when I have the time by myself. I've done some crazy things. To name a few: - Drive an extra 120 miles out of the way to get the final county in my state - three day road trip to Potter's Pond 1800+ miles - I know my daughter is going to have to stop at a restroom. I'll bundle that with a cache find. "Just 5 more miles" - Weekend adventures to the middle of nowhere with a bonus of a few caches along the way and at the destination. - Plan out caches that help with challenges along road trips. I usually don't stop for many but get a couple. Gas and food stops. - Day long power trail in Kern County CA outside of Bakersfield. Once started you just power through got 100+ that day but not enjoyable. - 49 finds so far this week for this challenge. One day urban caching, yesterday country driving my favorite. = While doing my year+ streak of finds, Out finding a LPC I had saved because I had a 103 fever from the flu. Also driving in an ice storm to keep it going. Ok this one was a bit much.
  10. This is a trend that will continue. Adapt or move on. Be happy Personally I love them and glad this on is harder that the previous ones.
  11. @barefootjeffIt is not about good or bad caches, nor is it solely (pun intended ) about numbers. For some folks it is and that is fine let them do their power trails, for others as it has been pointed out may find 1 a month and that is fine. There is room for all and these promotions as it is impossible to make everyone happy, GS can't and won't. I'm already tiring but I have the time and will power through this promotion. Interestingly, I did urban caching today and 5/9 caches I found I gave favorite points. BTW the dog in the good cache looks to be having a great time just like you in the bad cache picture which is why it is not a bad cache. I'm sure those 7 finders will remeber the experience while no one remembers a park bench. But caching in the good pic is giving an experience, while yours is a memory and an experience! The rain has finally stopped maybe I'll take my dog after one of the nearby shorter .25 miles trails for a cache.
  12. Do it! Seen it done many times. I might do it. My recommendation is to use the original date of finding with the rest of the family but that can be more tedious but then your statistics will be accurate which may be important sometime in the future. Personally I've kept track of every cache they have participated in through a trackable they received visiting GCHQ. I've missed a few I'm sure but if they should ever want their own account I'd have quite a project, one is at 455 and counting. They would even get a few FTFs. Here is my daughters lots of road trips and vacations including last week the most northerly ones
  13. Ok time to be brutally honest. GS is a for profit company that has to pay its bills. I'm sure they know where all of their paying customers are located. Now while there is a sizable number for sure in Australia. Imagine if you were a cacher in India or so small area or rural America. There are pockets of areas where the game is different than others. All you can do is try to improve those areas. BTW Ive place three caches in non-urban area including extreme South Eastern Oregon desert, and the coast range mountains. Though even there there are several caches in the area. Now back to the game, these promotions are geared towards increasing the paying customers and new customers. I'd suspect that Europe far outstrips even the US, and the density of caches exist to support challenges like this. My first cache was with my parents in 2009, I did not do my second cache till 2013 where I did three with my parents. Then in 2014 my dad and I started doing it after the New Year. That is when I got hooked and became a paying member. The reason for this story is it is tough to convert non-cachers to paying customers. I'm sure GS was aware of the loyal fan base that was dissatisfied with the challenges. Finally we have one that is tough. Yes you can not do it in your area of Australia. But even for me it is tough and I've made the decision to try. No one forced me. Oh I'll have to travel a lot as I'm down to 45 Traditional caches in my 10 mile radius. Yesterday after I was done with work and before the sun went down I did a 50 mile loop in the country picking up 5 caches in the rain, as I dislike caching in urban areas like many of the folks here, these were all PNGs but that was fine for me we need ALL kinds of caches. Maybe if folks placed more of everything more people could do challenges like this. It's raining and dark I'm not going to do a mile hike and the mountains still have snow from todays storm. Getting 4-5 a day for 28 days is hard and I almost did not try but finally a challenge I can do. Please realize that while we get the problems that folks in down under experience we in the rest of the world want to this game to thrive and evolve everywhere. If it was still using printouts and GPSr the game would be dead as it would be a hobby list read by a a dedicated minority of folks . I learned long ago you can't find them all and I will not always get all the souvenirs nor do I want them. This game gets me out of the house takes me to wonderful places and entertains me more than I can admit. The rules, the look and feel of the game will change for sure. We might not recognize what it is 10 years from now. This should be a good thing. Embrace change and get the maximum enjoyment we all can from this great game. Please allow for this as you will see challenges like this geared toward the majority not minority. Being in the minority is not a bad thing. Things like improved maintenance and improving the over all caching experience, I truly believe will help not only here in the US but world wide including Australia. Requesting exceptions may not be the correct way to go, history has proven this. So thank you GS for improving my caching experience with this challenge and all the hard work you all have done. .
  14. Let's add it is very difficult to check how many individual Lab caches finds you've found. So yesterday after first deciding no I did not want to average 3-4 a day for a month that I would give the 100 a shot. You know they have the number available as I've already gotten two of the souvenirs just display it somewhere for us so I don't have to count. Down to NEEDING 3 a day and already a bit tired but I'm addicted to challenges and I have a personal challenge to clear my 10 mile radius of traditional caches (There is one at 9.7 that requires a boat that I may not get ) and down to 45 out of 668. So this challenge will defiantly help.
  15. Glad you did Potters Pond beautiful area It is my favorite oldie. Actually it is 500 miles up from Dawson City and 500 miles back 1000 miles at least 2 days each direction. Just clicked on their website I love. Or 887km X 2.
  16. Any one know if there is a progress indicator?
  17. This is one of my bucket list trips. 5000 miles round trip for me (Portland). The last 500 miles up and 500 miles down the Dempster Highway on gravel load. Amazing Scenery. Can't wait and totally jealous. Do share! Need to find a crazy co-pilot and the time to do it.
  18. Finally! Its the caches that don't have a checker that are the problem. So glad. Think about it. They are going to reference their database in the checker. Eliminates problems and more importantly no checkers.
  19. Sorry to say the tunnel will be closed but there is access from the other side. We just got some big snow accumulation this week down in Oregon of over two feet I'd assume WA is the same. So if you want to attempt in the snow be prepared. GCD should have snow as well. The tunnel is truly a great hike! https://wsdot.com/travel/real-time/mountainpasses/snoqualmie https://www.wta.org/go-hiking/hikes/iron-horse-tunnel The Snoqualmie Tunnel is part of the 250-mile Palouse to Cascades State Park Trail (formerly the John Wayne Trail and Iron Horse State Park) and this section is a must do for everyone! Views for most of your trip will be determined by the power of your headlamp, but there will be some sights on the other side. The attraction of this hike is the mysterious, dramatic tunnel itself. However, note that the tunnel is closed November 1st through May 1st, so plan your trip accordingly.
  20. I've had two caches with NM logs filed on them. The first was by a cacher with 0 finds and was bogus they had never seen a nano cache. The second was by a cacher with fewer than 75 finds. Since I had moved out of the area I messaged them and gave them detailed finding instructions and unfortunately it was indeed missing and I archived the cache. As for experience filing NMs. COs need to stop taking offense at NMs as they can be true. In the case of the inexperienced cacher I swung by and did a quick check and found it all good. I have filed 10 NM logs since the begging of the year. 4 are current disabled on the way to being archived. 2 have been fixed by the CO. This is the best possible outcome one had coordinates that were off by 500 feet a typo in a recent update. 3 inactive COs probably will be archived 1 Hopefully will be fixed, CO definitely did not like the NM. Logs showed problems for the past 6 months.
  21. Well it's not a new country for me but today got my first International FTF! Now have FTFs in four states/provinces and 18 counties. On a road trip up to Whistler, British Columbia on The Sea to Sky Highway. Cache was a beautiful little walk along the Squamish river.
  22. Finally a challenge for the addicts. Glad I have not really done any of the AL near my home as I'll be needing them. Yep. Book you travel plans now probably some cheap tickets to some destination. I did one power trail (never again) Got 108 in one day solo. Was so tired of getting in and out of the car.
  23. 2022 being a covid year. Would be interesting to see few more years. The real reason to post is why is 1st of January until today different from the whole year? 2 people must have done some time traveling.
  24. Well written! Definitely agree. The experience is everything!
  25. My regional reviewer posted this response that kind of answers your post: Post reviewer note 02/26/2023 I note that someone other than the cache owner has repaired this cache. While I appreciate this action, responsibility for cache ownership includes regular visits to the cache to assure it remains in place and in good repair. This responsibility also extends to responding and addressing issues documented on the cache page as well. As such, I would look to the cache owner to respond here. Should this not occur, I would consider this cache to be abandoned, and it may be archived moving forward.
