  1. I would hope that anyone who visits a fishing cache would realize the potential for rusty hooks. I would do the same as you did and remove the rusty tangled mess and do my best to fix the situation. Hooks are meant to get wet and will always rust it just takes a little effort to make it a better cache. Its always good to bring new hooks in a container as well as a fresh stringer and sinkers. My cache/tackle box is locked with a very bold warning about the sharp hooks. Hopefully this is enough to keep kids out of it. I really can't picture leaving hooks and fishing items loose in a box like that. That's just asking for trouble. If you plan on visiting the cache in the future then maybe you can take a few smaller containers that may help to keep it organized or ask the owner to replace the cache container with a tackle box in a larger waterproof container like I have. I'm probably going to have a few "survival type" fishing kits that will fit in a match safe. Then I'll label the case as a fishing kit to place in a larger campers cache. Swizzle
  2. That is just disgusting. I would think that something like that should not be allowed on the possibility of transporting disease. I love the last part, "No toenails, that would be gross"?!? The fat bastard TB I could have done without the visual. That was a bit much. lmao. Some people. You just gotta love it. Swizzle
  3. Well I destroyed one solar light and with a snip snip here and some straping tape there. I slid it into a glass jar and placed it outside in the rain to see how it works. If that works good then it's time to seal it with some hot glue and duct tape and then the submersion test. I figure 1 year in a 5 gallon bucket of water should do the trick. If it last the whole year then its time to put it in the field. I figured I could place it in an onion bag or a similar type mesh bag and place the cache container below it. The jar holds enough air to make the solar panel, battery and light float and the cache will be the anchor. I just need to make a line adjustment to keep the cache at or around 6 to 10 feet deep. I'll need to spend a weekend at the lake to make sure everything will work all right. The depth will depend on water clarity and above water visual distance. This one is going to take some time. Anyone have any ideas on how to make something like this work? Swizzle
  4. Nice scenery. I had a cache in a spot much like that one. Where the banks were lined with logs due to the heavy fishing traffic. No fishy pics yet I see. There should be plenty in the future though. Hope it continues to be a big hit for you. I had a FTF on mine so far and he couldn't find the trail so he bushwacked the .32 miles to the cache. All he had to do was walk 100 feet up the road. Its a really well defined trail that's packed down by 100's of people a year. I'm already working on a trout box for my next cache and a campers delight which will have a small fish kit in it. What do you have in your fishing cache? Swizzle
  5. If you could waterproof a walkway solar light and sink it into 10 feet of water would the rays of the sun still be strong enough to fully charge the battery? I figured that 10 feet would keep you from seeing it from a distance and still allow you to see it when you get close. Underwater, multi-night cache? hmmm......Sounds like something that may not have been done yet. Swizzle
  6. Does anyone have an diagrams and set-ups that they can show? I would love to see how to canabalize the solar patio lights and see how it is actually set up in the field. I would love to see your personal setups and how you did them. Thanx Swizzle
  7. Had you goin' didn't I. Thank you to the man with the big lock topic button. Enough said. Swizzle
  8. First LBer e-mailed me back and is no help. I just e-mailed a local who has a GC/LB hybrid to see if he can help. Once he reply's I'll let you know. Thanx, Swizzle
  9. GCXWX5 Woohoo it got published. Check it out and tell me what you think. I think I did pretty goo on this one. Nice stringer of trout. Gotta love it. The great outdoors, the smell of fresh fish cooking over an open fire. I can't wait to go back. Swizzle
  10. Will do in the morning if I still don't have a reply. So overall as far as the cache is concerned is there anything that you would change? Can I post the page here before its published so that others can see what I'm talking about or won't that work? Swizzle
  11. I'm going to wait for a few day's, if this guy doesn't reply I'll try one more local and if I still don't get a response then I'll PM you. Thanx for the offer and I'll definatly keep you in mind. Swizzle
  12. I just contacted another local LBer and asked if he could help. Now set back and wait for the reply. Swizzle
  13. I recently talked to a man and woman who were geocaching locally and found a glass jar full of rice. They figured it was the cache and opened it up. Apparently it also contained a bunch of little packets of crack. They put it back and e-mailed the owner of the cache. The owner went up to check out his cache with the local police department and it made the newspaper. It was an estimated $6,000+ worth of crack. Kinda scary. Swizzle
  14. I can understand the aspect of icon hunting and wanting to add a bunch of cool loooking icons to your page. My main concern is with TB's eventually just sitting there and going no where's. I think TB's that are meant to travel and don't give you an extra icon should not be discoverable. Geocoins are a whole different ballgame and I feel that they should be seperated from TB's. After all ones a tag and ones a really cool looking geocoin. Its like comparing apples to oranges. They are 2 different critters and should be treated as such. Just my opinion. Swizzle
  15. I only want to upload one pic at a time. Swizzle
  16. I'm already in the process of trying to get one approved. I just wanted to know if there was anything that I could do to improve on what I got. I have coordinates to a boat that was left on the lake and a full sized tackle box stuffed full of goodies. I had a bit of a disagreement with a reviewer on the fillet knife in the cache and he won that arguement hands down and rightly so. I was a bit to angry when I wrote him an e-mail and I know its on the verge of being archived. I did notice however that when I typed in fisherman's in the keyword search about 62 caches. Most just say that it a cache with a small fishing kit. No mention of the sharp hooks in the cache. I'm trying to be open and honest with the reviewer and think maybe I went to much in depth about the contents of the cache. I even posted a rather large warning about sharp hooks and gave a list of my more family friendly caches in the area. The tackle box is a double drawer and fully stocked. Stringer, hooks, sinkers, plugs, underwater topo of the lake, updated fishing rules and regulations guide book, camera, glow in the dark squirt on liquid scent, ect... You get the point. It's well stocked. He felt that it might be dangerous if a child was to stumble on it by accident so I put on a combo lock as he requested and put the combination on the cache page. Recommended that people bring oars and life preservers and common scence. The tackle box is inside a bigger plastic box and it has 2 log books. A fishermans log and a geocachers log. The geocacher log book stays with the bigger box if anyone takes the tackle box fishing with them. I've made 2 trips to the lake to fix the cache and have done everything the reviewer has asked me to do so far and now I'm just waiting for his reply. Its been about 2 days so now I'm concerned. I've spent over $50 to get this cache going and its been a week since I placed the cache. Maybe I should have just posted. "This cache contains a small fishing kit, enjoy" Then maybe it'd be published already. I put a lot of time, money, thought and effort into making an above average cache and hopefully it will be going soon. The only 3 things this cache doesn't have is a rod and reel, beer and bait. 17. I'm wondering myself why posting a pic is a 127 point process. Almost every forum I've ever been on has a simple browse button. You navigate to the pic that's on your computer and click on it and 1 o.k. button later you've posted a pic. I'm no moron but I'm not very computer savy either. I tried for over a half an hour and managed to post a new avatar photo?!? Not what I was going for at all. I wanted an enlarged pic of the walking sticks that you see in my avatar and I just couldn't figure it out. So every time I feel the need to post a new pic I'll have to change my avatar. Swizzle
  18. I'm not saying that the discover feature sucks. I personally like it myself. I just feel that in the near future a lot of people will decide that moving a TB is a hastle and just discover it. If you have to move it to log it then your TB would go much farther. I can see why people like to do the icon hunting for coins but I was mainly thinking about TB's and not trackable coins. Maybe the two should be seperated somehow. Swizzle
  19. I think what I would do in this case is to e-mail him saying that you are sincerly sorry for your actions and the 3 threads of stalker like apologizes. Tell him that you will e-mail him in a few months and let it lie. These threads might be very entertaining to him or very bothersome. Its obvious to everyone here that he doesn't want to talk to you or respond to the repeated e-mails, PM's, Accounts and threads. Your obviously sorry for your actions but you obviously must have hit a raw nerve. Leave it alone and let it heal. Come back later and try again. If it was me recieving all of the "please forgive me" e-mails, PM's, and threads I would consider it harassment and consider permently banning you. Like everyone else has said here, "enough is enough" He obviously knows your sorry so just chill for a bit and try again at a much later date through an e-mail not through repeated threads. That's just my 2 cents. Sorry if you think my opinion sucks or if you think I'm being mean but that how I feel. Swizzle
  20. How about adding a feature that allows you to choose whether or not you want your TB's discovered. If you want a TB to move then simply select that you don't want it to be discovered and when someone finds it it will encourage them to move it. It will also slow down people who just want to "boost" their TB numbers. What's that all about anyway? Do you get a gold star or something for finding the most TB's? Swizzle
  21. I'd like to see a new feature that allows you to control what happens with the TB. Like myself and wifey being a TB we just want to be discovered. But all of the other TB's that I have I want them to move. You should be able to choose whether or not you want your TB discovered. If someone wants to "boost" their TB numbers then woohoo go for it. It's just like being a little kid again and trying to get that gold start to show everyone you did good. Swizzle
  22. This is quite an interesting thread. I especially like all the cute little cartoons. Swizzle
  23. I'm curious about different type of interactive electronics that could make geocaching more fun. For instance the simple electronic key finder. How about the blinking light for night caches? Where do you get those and is it possible to set up a small red LED to a solar panel? I'm looking for something that might be able to run continiously every night for over a year. I can't see where a small red blinking LED takes up a lot of energy. Maybe tear apart one of those solar lawn lights and then add a fair sized battery. Any gadget hacks in here? Surely someone can create something for a deep woods night cache. What about the device that you whistle and the alarm goes off to find your keys? What can be done with laser pointers. ect.. ect... Please add your own spin on this and what you've seen done or are working on. Swizzle
