(I know next to nothing about computer stuff, in case you hadn't figured that out already!). Jaimee Too bad closed minds didn't come with closed mouths. Is Jamie sick of Ozzy? We still have to call you LO! If there is something to B17ch about I'll make sure you're the first to know.
  2. I recently disabled a particular cache. Twelve days after is was disabled I had 2 people log it as a find. Without starting anything in the forum I want to know what others would do. I think im going to delete their finds. Everybody happy now If there is something to B17ch about I'll make sure you're the first to know.
  3. Are we still on for this? I talked to the manager of OG tonight and he said Sunday would be better. Could everyone still come if I make the OG event on Sunday, March 2nd? If there is something to B17ch about I'll make sure you're the first to know.
  4. quote:Originally posted by Green Achers: Hello to all CVC. Sorry that I've been busy and haven't been able to read and write in the forum. I've got a lot of things going but how to go out hunting at some point this weekend. I've got Fizzy's program working and I'm jumping to get out and use it. (Thanks to Fallen and Fizzy for talking me into getting a PDA - Great advise) Bill of Green Achers "I'm Not Sure I Understand Everything I Know About This." I have no idea how anyone survives without one! Although I do know of one cacher who has printed out and alphabetized every cache within 30 miles of his house I don't even have that kind of patience. If there is something to B17ch about I'll make sure you're the first to know.
  5. Ehh. Too bad. I actually dont work on Friday and was going to be caching from about 8 or 9am till about 3:30ish. Probably a normal persons work time. Let me know anyway, If there is something to B17ch about I'll make sure you're the first to know.
  6. Not for sure, but... Friday I'm going caching in the Stocton area (maybe). Just wondering if anyone would like to go. If there is something to B17ch about I'll make sure you're the first to know.
  7. quote:Originally posted by Partytown:Well I had a very successful lunch!!! Luckily the boss didn't notice how long I was gone. Found the Scenic Surprise. And I agree it is much more fun to go caching with someone else. My hubby was along with me and he actually narrowed down the area and I found the cache. I was SO excited!!!!! I can hardly wait to get off work here in an hour and go back out! I have been printing up a bunch of them, there are 42 in the 5 mile radius of my work which is at McHenry and Rumble. Okay, time to look for some more caches to print up and hunt! Thanks a bunch for the guidance and encouragement! -Sandy That would be an interesting one to find first. I had an interesting experience with that one. If there is something to B17ch about I'll make sure you're the first to know.
  8. quote:Originally posted by Partytown:No I only work til around 3:30. Depends on how much work I have, I can sometimes leave early. Sandy Oh well. Id like to cache from about 9 am till 3ish. If there is something to B17ch about I'll make sure you're the first to know.
  9. quote:Originally posted by Partytown:I am in Salida, and tried to find the two here, the Exit Exit and the Y.S.Y.L. I also tried the Resting Bear in Modesto after work. I guess I am not really sure what I am looking for or whether or not I need to be a bit more nosey when poking around. Don't think I won't be out there looking again tomorrow though! There are so many around here I am just amazed! I am looking forward to running into fellow cachers along the way. Nice to meet you... if you have any tips for finding the ones I have already tried on my first go, please let me know! -Sandy I take it you work all day on Friday? If there is something to B17ch about I'll make sure you're the first to know.
  10. quote:Originally posted by Partytown:Hello, I was introduced to this new phenomena literally over this past weekend. I got a wild hair to "dive in" and got my first GPS today. I was very eager to go out and locate my first cache ever. I printed up some of the surrounding caches that on the scale seemed easy (1/1-2/1) and attempted my first hunt. I hit three areas and was not successful. I am as green as can be and was wondering if I could get a little friendly guidance. I haven't had a chance to actually go out with a more experienced cacher yet, but I am so very eager to score my first find! Now I was tempted to go to the Flower Cam Web Cam cache just because it's pretty obvious where it is and extremely easy, but that was TOO easy. I still plan to log that one here soon it's a cool cache. I am also eager to place caches and have some questions. How appropriate is it to place caches say on one's own property? I am really excited about this new hobby, and really want to find my first cache! -Sandy Sounds good to me too. If you let us know where you are or where you would like to go caching I am sure you could find a caching partner. There are lots of places I still have to go. If there is something to B17ch about I'll make sure you're the first to know.
  11. quote:Originally posted by Catmit: As a new cacher (73 finds); first I have to say that hiding my first few micro caches was very EXCITING. Yes, they are probably easy finds; but sorry, I don't consider them sad! I'm positive that most of the experienced cachers felt this exact same thing (excited) when they first started caching! And if you look at my logs; most of them are finds of micros 1/1's hidden by experienced cachers! I do intend to put more thought into the next ones I hide..if there are any places left! I have found some very clever caches lately and I agree that these are much more challenging then walking right up to a micro and logging it in a minute. So, I guess the answer would be; for those sick of micro caches - don't find them! Oh, and please don't beat me up over my opinion. It's just an opinion...... Cathy There are things known and there are things unknown, and in between are the doors. And very entitled to it. I actually don't complain, just comment. I think I haven't found any of your caches yet. If there is something to B17ch about I'll make sure you're the first to know.
  12. Uncleugene and I did some caching in an area that I will not name. I do now understand why some of you are sick of the whole micro thing. Some of them were just sad! I did seem to find a correlation between the sad caches and the new cache hiders. Again oh well. I would like to see these placed with a little more thought, but then again... who am I to complain. Hmm.. then again, who am I to complain about those who complain. If you have any complaints about my caches please e-mail (fallen@hotpop.com) me at my complaint hotline. I know I have a few of those stuck to the metal things. If there is something to B17ch about I'll make sure you're the first to know.
  13. quote:Originally posted by LuvOzzy:Hey all I told myself I was going to stay away from the forums and all the drama, but I guess I just can't do that! Has anyone had problems getting caches approved lately??? Each and every cache I submit now is questioned. I placed three virtuals in the Ventura area yesterday, and all three have been archived. It seems as if maybe there is a trend to move away from virtuals. They certainly will keep approving a magnetized whatever stuck to a piece of metal! I guess I just don't get what constitutes a cache anymore. How is a virtual less of a cache than a get-together for dinner??? On the dinner note, I am glad I got a chuckle out of that whole affair! You really need an event page in order to get the details to everyone?? Seems that 20-some people were able to get the necessary info from what had been posted on the forum. It certainly shows who is in this game for the numbers. Jaimee Too bad closed minds didn't come with closed mouths. It seems my virtuals area always questioned. I think they check the Internet and if they can find information about your virtual they archive it. Did they tell you why they archived yours? As for the event. I just figure they have an event cache option so why not use it. I really could care less about numbers. I actually went down to LA this weekend and got 0 caches. I guess 0 is a number so maybe I am obsessed with numbers. Oh well. If there is something to B17ch about I'll make sure you're the first to know.
  14. ...and had a great weekend!!! The only problem was I didn't do ANY CACHING WHATSOEVER! Oh well, I had too much fun to stop and cache anyway. Then the drive home really sucks and I didn't really want to make it longer. Anyway, If I make the Olive Garden an event cache (or whatever) does this fly with everyone? Oh yea! Bill, glad to see you are laying off those downers. They appear to make this page WAY too long. The Great If there is something to B17ch about I'll make sure you're the first to know.
  15. quote:Originally posted by Marky:Fallen, why don't you take the lead on this and make an Event Cache for it. (Do you really know the manager?) Post any known details on the event cache (such as min and max group size, RSVP deadline, etc.) That seems like a decent working model for these type of things. Joani and I should be able to make it, regardless. --Marky "All of us get lost in the darkness, dreamers learn to steer with a backlit GPSr" Sounds good to me. We eat there all the time and the manager usually comes out to talk to us. I'm sure I can work something out. Well, Im off to LA for the weekend. Be back on Sunday! If there is something to B17ch about I'll make sure you're the first to know.
  16. Well... I will be at the Olive Garden on the 1st of March around 6pm anyway. If others are still interested I will call and reserve (it helps to know the manager!). It's all a game, sometimes things happen. Once again we continue to revolve. Let me know! If there is something to B17ch about I'll make sure you're the first to know.
  17. When this begins to turn into a personal issue the people involved should either 1) use personal means of communication such as the phone or e-mail or 2) make up your their own thread so not to turn others away from this GAME. I'm out of here for a while. I have an e-mail address... If there is something to B17ch about I'll make sure you're the first to know.
  18. quote:Originally posted by Ron Streeter:...You're right about that. Nothing says you have to make caches handicapped accessible and nothing says that a person has to go after a cache if they feel it is dangerous or beyond their capabilities. As I indicated in an email to you, I had qualms about going over the rail, but I did it anyway and I was willing to accept whatever happened in that regard. My concern (for my caches) is that someone MIGHT feel they were capable, might try something they shouldn't and MIGHT end up regretting it. Your implication that someone might be HANDICAPPED by not having arms thin enough or bendable enough to reach you cache is fine if taken in the sense that we all suffer from one handicap or another. Because George is taller he certainly might place a cache slightly out of reach of some shorter cachers, but that is a little different I think than placing a cache where someone (at their own discretion) might go *out on a limb* and suffer a fall to rocks below. That is exactly what I meant. Sometimes a cache is placed by someone who had no problems placing it, but some finders might "need something extra" in order to get the cache. I know I have a few like this, and I do know a piece of equipment which would allow someone with a HUGE arm to grab The Green One without putting themself in danger. We continue to rotate, If there is something to B17ch about I'll make sure you're the first to know.
  19. ...is back where it originally was. I'll change the terrain. Too bad Ron doesn't get to experience the pure joy of this cache as everyone else did. If there is something to B17ch about I'll make sure you're the first to know.
  20. I know there are many caches by a particular cacher which are biased on height. Being shorter than this particular cacher sometimes is a problem, but I can usually find a way to get the cache. Last I checked we didn’t have to make caches handicapped accessible. If there is something to B17ch about I'll make sure you're the first to know.
  21. quote:Originally posted by Ron Streeter:....returns. Fallen... Do I understand from Brute Force's find note on the Green One that if you have a skinny enough arm you can reach this, but if you don't, you can't! Guess I'll bring along Twiggy next time ! So it's been in the same spot all along and it's just a matter of how porky your arm is? (or had it moved?) Wow...a new geocaching oddity. Ron __I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.__ That's it exactly. I went out there yesterday and met Brute Force at the site. At the moment I decided to make it an easier cache but after thinking about it... I'm moving it back. I will up the terrain raiting and give people with larger shorter arms fair warning. Anyway... If there is something to B17ch about I'll make sure you're the first to know.
  22. Uncleugene and I are heading down to LA (yuck) this weekend also. I will be leaving caches along the way (which should be rather interesting). I realize people seem to be rather sick of micros (from earlier discussions) so I have been putting together some large® ones for you all. Now, don't think I am going to make them easy or anything. Just making sure you are watching. About micros... The only time I get tired of them is if there was no thought involved. I realize I have some really easy micros ('Gettin Chili' for one) but I kinda thought I had to balance the difficult ones I have. If anyone cares to let me know that I have placed a really boring cache please let me know. At least that way I can get rid of it to allow someone else to place (maybe) a better one there. If there is something to B17ch about I'll make sure you're the first to know.
  23. quote:Originally posted by Ron Streeter:.....Your Old Crimea cache shows as a micro at the top of the page (as of 8:30 Sunday night the 26th). It also seems to ask the cache seeker to answer questions as though it were a virtual. I think this is the cache referred to in an earlier post in this forum. Is this a micro or a virtual...or both? Ron __I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.__ ...die hard I guess. I probably was logging other new caches and just selected micro. I changed it to virutal (which is what it actually is). Oh well. Thanks for the info! If there is something to B17ch about I'll make sure you're the first to know.
  24. quote:Originally posted by Green Achers:Hey Fallen! Wha'cha doing today? Want to get together and go out after http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=50583? I'll drive! Bill of Green Achers "I'm Not Sure I Understand Everything I Know About This." Too bad I was late reading this Bill. I need to go back to the Stockton area sometime again so let me know when. If there is something to B17ch about I'll make sure you're the first to know.
  25. quote:Originally posted by Catmit:I think that's great that George logged a DNF - not because he couldn't find it - but I oftened wondered if some geo-cacher's just didn't log DNF's. I have logged everyone of my DNF's and quite often I feel stupid and frustrated that it seems like it's only me that can't get them. But as I read more cache posts it doesn't seem to be the case. And of course I don't give up on the DNF's - I keep going back until I nab them. What is the criteria for logging a DNF? I give it a good search and if I'm stumped I log it. If I show up and it's too busy of a place to look, or other circumstances present themselves that I'm unable to look for it, I don't log. Hey George - Patterson High's Girls and Boys basketball teams will be at Riverbank High today for an all day tournament. Do you follow the sports at your School? Cathy I do believe this topic has come up before but... since you weren't here here I go... I think everyone really has their own definition for DNFs. I think if you go out a look around for 15 minutes or more and don't have a good excuse (it was dark and I didn't have a flashlight) then log a DNF. If you can't seem to get to the area or got there and there was people in the area then I usually post a note to let the owner of the cache know that I was there. Anyway, If there is something to B17ch about I'll make sure you're the first to know.
