  1. I have a hero (telus) and have used geobeagle to find one cache as well used it while checking on my own. It worked well but with the lack of urban caches (probably due to the lack of urban areas) I cannot justify the risk of dropping it in a puddle or bumping it too hard on a rock and turning it into a paper weight. I do enjoy the ability to haul it out and load a cache page to reread hints, previous logs or what not. I also like having it in my pocket just in case I get an email notification of a new cache and do not have my GPS with me or am out of town.
  2. I believe there is a bug that involved the Android gmail app, attachments and some apps, like GeoBeagle. Don't recall the details, but you can do the PQ to GeoBeagle download by using a browser to access your gmail account rather than the gmail app. Yup, it's inconvenient. If you're using GeoBeagle, the little app 'Find Geocaches' is useful and it allows you to do live searches and feed them to GeoBeagle. Makes GeoBeagle almost as good as the app we can't discuss. Shhhhh you discussing it........ lol
  3. Yeah, goggles may not be that useful but it will probably compensate with a lot of how freakin cool is this
  4. Another application available in Android Marketplace is 'Find Geocaches.' This little app does a live search and passes the data to GeoBeagle. Little easier than the Web Browser Shuffle.qr Sounds good, although I could not find 'find geocache' in my market. It may not be available in Canada or atleast until we get an update. I am also waiting to try Google goggles....LOL
  5. I have only done one cache with my HTC Hero. It took longer to settle out than my 60cx but once it did they both showed the same "2 meters west" when I was standing at GZ. This was under medium tree coverage. The only concern I have is with durability. It appears to me that my garmin can take a licking but I'm not prepared to put my phone through the same. Can you tell what app you downloaded to get the gpsr going on the Hero? I have GPSTest but can't figure out how to get it to work and I haven't figured out how to get caches into it and tell it to goto or search. I am using I have geobeagle on my hero and it appears to work well, it is available in the market at no charge. you need to turn the gps on (i added a shortcut so there is an "gps on / off" icon on my home screen) and you will see the gps in the task bar, it looks like a satellite dish. Once the gps is on, run your browser and head to geocaching.com. once you are in the cache you want to look for "For online maps" just under the hint section and click on google maps. the phone should prompt you to "complete this action using..." and select geobeagle and your off. Geobeagle also supports other formats (LOC GPX...) and you can check out their project page, it contains a complete tutorial, videos, contact info... http://code.google.com/p/geobeagle/
  6. Who are you following on Twitter for all your geocaching tweets?

  8. As an Android user I would love to see a buggy-free app put out by GC. I have zero app development skills but one question that comes to mind is this: do all the different model Android phones combined with the differences of various carrier programming hamper app development? Or is this irrelevant to the development process?
  9. Downloaded a gpx file to my ad card but geobeagle will not recoognize it. Anyone using it on a hero from TELUS ?
  10. I got the HTC hero, and so far and very pleased. I have geobeagle there now but have not played with it enough to form any sort of opnion. One from Groundspeak would be nice but they seem to be in love with the iPhone for now.
  11. Any news? New to the Android phone and looking for a caching app
  12. I have one with the coords engraved on a tag in morse code. GC1R9N9. I called it "Dit & Dah" Didn't even think about using audio but I may have to put out another... great idea! PS Morse made have developed it but if it wasn't for Vail no one would probably use it.
  13. as for changing you log in name, I don't think that you can. if you only have 3 finds creating a new account would probably be easier.
  14. When I make a members only cache I get a nice option to view the audit logs and see who is looking at my cache. I really like that idea but do not like making member only caches. The area I am in only has a handful of cachers and even less members. It is a nice little bonus to see who is peeking but would it be possible to have audit logs on all caches placed by paid members?
  15. you should take about 700 or so of them and put a single piece of paper inside each saying "not this one", then a log book in one and make a big pile of them somewhere in woods as a cache. It would need a cheesy name like "needle in a hay stack" or "fish in a barrel"
  16. One of my first TB's was the traveling cook book. It was a small/medium note pad in which cachers would write down their favorite recipes and pass it on. I was going to post all the recipes to a web page and inform all who contributed but sadly the TB has had no activity in over a year, and the member who retrieved it last has not logged into Groundspeak for over a year either. I still feel that this is a neat idea for a TB and I will probably make another one soon. Feel free to make your own traveling cook book TB's and i wish you better luck than I had.
  17. I came up with what i thought was a neat idea for a TB. It was the traveling cook book TB. It was a note book that cachers could take home and write down their favorite recipe or copy someone else's to try. After the note was filled i was going to publish all of them on a website to share. But unfortunately the cook book was retrieved by someone and never placed again They haven't logged into Groundspeak for about a year either, they only had a few caches so i assume they lost interest in the sport. All I can do is hope that one day when they are cleaning or packing they come across my little cook book and decided to place it in one last cache, or even better place it and regain a love for geocaching. Shoes
  18. i had a 60 CX and had the same problem, always off by about 10 to 15 feet. I cached with the parents who had a old xTrax (b&w) and it took them basically on top every time. i was so jealous. My gps took care of it's issues on it's own one day it would simply not turn on anymore. It was my second CX that this happened to, the first was only a week after purchased and the store exchanged it, the second time was after a year and a half so i bought a different brand. I plan on turning the old garmin into a travel bug of somekind.
  19. I was off to the side of a road around a "welcome to ..." sign. When cars drove by I turned my GPS sideways and pretended to take a picture. lol I got a bright orange magellan so i assume it looks enough like a digital cam when i turn it sideways.
  20. While checking out the details of your Travel bug dog tag, the site lets you know that x number of people are watching this listing. Is there way to find out who is watching my bugs? If not, should this be added to the site? Ian Halifax, NS
