  1. hmmmm... a very interesting point. so maybe coins will be worth MORE if they ARE activated?!?!?
  2. SHARP... I mean the coin... the scythe looks pretty sharp too
  3. Just wanted to let everyone know about a beautiful coin that's up for sale to benefit a really worthy cause. There is a Womens Pregnancy Center here in Ocala that is in dire need of help. So I'm putting my money where my mouth is, and I'm listing a number of highly sought after coins on ebay over the next couple weeks. 100% of the proceeds will go directly to the pregnancy center to help women who find themselves in unplanned, unanticipated, or crisis pregnancies. There are links on the auction page for more info on the pregnancy center, the Walk For Life, as well as my own sponsor page. So... here's the link to the auction. Please bid early, bid often, bid high. Pirate Treasure Antique Gold Charity Auction Thanks to everyone for their support of this very worthy cause!!
  4. again, this is truly an amazing coin. PLEASE make ALL three finishes. I now know what I'm getting all the folks who went with me to China for Christmas (yeah, it'll be a late present, but... SO COOL!!!)
  5. I've considered making a similar coin over the last couple years after a few trips to China. I can't wait to get these. If you can get to Beijing before you head back to the States, make sure you do "Feel the Burn"... it's up on a beautiful section of the Wall NorthWest of Beijing. Great Job on a GORGEOUS coin!
  6. my personal preference would be for an activated coin that is then adopted to me at the time of the trade. I don't quite understand the whole "it's more valuable if it's never been activated" thing. If someone thinks a coin is going to be somehow in more pristine condition just 'cause it's never been activated, well, I've gotten some pretty banged-up unactivated coins. Knowing the history of a coin makes it more valuable to me. there... my 2 cents.
  7. make sure if you create a cache that is never published that you archive it. otherwise it will show up on the proximity search that the reviewers use to make sure a potential cache doesn't encroach to closely to another cache. Although it's really not too big of a deal, it does put some extra work on our reviewers ... they don't need that. my advice: make a cache, don't publish it: archive it. then you can put any coins you own that you don't want hanging out in your inventory in the archived cache. They, and their icon, will still show up under your profile as "Owned" coins, but they will be removed from your "inventory". hope this helps
  8. I have several coins that I've purchased or produced over the years that I've been saving for hard-to-find kinds of trades. However, with our nation's recent economic situation, times appear to be changing. There is a Womens Pregnancy Center here in Ocala that is in dire need of help. 9. There were 4 versions produced for sale; another version was done for the forum members whose ideas were used on the back of the coin. Waaaaay back when the second minting was being done at HogWild, I had them mint several different finishes in very limited numbers... like only 5 each. These have almost all been gifted or traded. None were ever sold. I decided to make some of these available as charity auctions... as contributions from the local community to the Pregnancy Center have dropped dramatically the last 18 months... the recession is hitting us pretty hard here in central Florida. Thanks to the generosity here, I've been able to make several sizable donations. I'll most likely be posting a new coin each week to benefit the Pregnancy Center.
  10. I'm in WUV !!! i pwefer to hunt wif my camwa

  17. I don't know the name for it, but here's a link that might explain it. I think it's a reward coin for completing a series of 26 caches in that area of Wisconsin. Stevens Point Area geocache hunt
  18. whoa! total and complete bummer. I've started the bidding of the two I don't have.
  19. This is going to be SO cool!!! I'm going to have to get one of these to dip into a cache I just hid a couple weeks ago... the cache is hidden at a labyrinth that looks exactly like the one at 1 o'clock on the coin. can't wait!
  20. mwah. instead, we're hiking through the gorgeous leaves in northern Vermont. . . and picking up a few caches along the way.
  21. "charitable solicitations such as these are not permitted without prior approval from Groundspeak to use the forums in this manner." this is a quote from the message I just received. I'll be contacting the appropriate authorities in hopes of resolving this issue. I do not believe I was in any violation of the general forum guidelines nor the geocoin specific forum guidelines as I asked for replies like any other cointest has with the "prize" being a trackable coin...and, though I did refer cachers to another site where I am certainly asking for charitable donations, I made it clear that those who donated a minimal amount would receive a trackable geocoin for that. so...
  22. Here are some photos of a cache I hid, Plumber's Dream GC1339R. It is a 2 stage Multi. The first stage is a bison tube hidden at the base of a large water tower/reservoir. Inside the first stage are the coords for the final stage (a couple blocks away) along with a hint: the library's cataloging number for the book/cache.... so even if the gps doesn't work so well inside, the cache is still able to be found just by looking for the right catalog number. The container itself is just an old book I had laying around. I used an exacto razor blade knife to cut out the center of the book, used rubber cement to seal up the page edges on the inside. I got permission from the librarian to hide the cache and made sure all the ladies who work in the library are aware of its presence so it doesn't go missing. (Three different kids have tried to "check out" the "book").
  23. this same issue was in another thread. I too contacted the seller on ebay. thus far they have not responded. I also contacted the "winner" (one of our fellow geocachers in Portugal who was bidding so he(she?) could release these coins back to travel) as the seller closed the auction early. I was hoping the seller had decided to release the coins or take one of us up on our offers to pay the postage to get them released. It appears that is not so, as I just got a reply back from the "winner" of the auction noting that the seller is now asking for excessive funds to ship the coins to Portugal. This is all so sad. I applaud those who were bidding in order to free the hostages, however, I'm afraid bidding will just make more coin thieves out there try to sell coins they've stolen.
  24. it appears the seller ended the auction early. ebay site indicates it was to sell the auction to the current highest bidder. I hope this is bologna. I've emailed the high bidder encouraging them to do the right thing and send these coins on their way. I also contacted the seller offering to send a prepaid mailer to have them sent to me so I can move them on... that or to send them to the good folks at geocaching.com... I'm sure someone there could find someone to move them on. It will be interesting to hear how ebay handles this one.
