  1. If you install from the hard drive, you won't need to edit the registry. You only need to edit the registry if you have already installed from the CDs and want to change the location to the directory on the hard drive, though editing the registry isn't difficult.
  2. I think you should be able to copy the CD to your hard drive and install it from there; then you won't need the CD.
  3. It will be faster if you use a card reader, but it doesn't make any difference aside from that. BTW, the 60CSx uses microSD cards, not miniSD.
  4. Here's a thread on Brighthand Forums: http://forum.brighthand.com/showthread.php...0646&page=1
  5. I am new to all this....but could someone please explain what is 1:100,000 and 1:24,000 terms mean? I am lost...i don't know much about it Thanks for the answer! Those are map scales, i.e. the ratio of distance measured on the map to actual distance in real life. For example, on a 1:24 000 map, 1 mm measured on the map corresponds to 24 000 mm (24 m) in real life, and 1 in on the map is 24 000 in (2 000 ft) in real life, etc.
  6. Yes. The 'SiRF Star Technology' refers to the GPS receiver chipset, not to the antenna itself. Ref.: http://www.sirf.com/products-ss3.html
  7. If you press the Menu key while in the map selection menu, another menu will pop up which allows you to hide or show all map segments of a certain type (i.e. Topo, MetroGuide, City Navigator, etc.) at once.
  8. You can write it down (it's about 25 characters), or you can export it from MapSource to a file.
  9. You can try G7ToCE, the Pocket PC version of G7ToWin. I'm not sure how it handles tracks.
  10. Although I have no experience with the 76S, I am fairly sure they use the same cable. My GPS V and 76CSx (same as your 60CSx) use the round 4-pin connector - ground, power, RS-232 in, RS-232 out. According to Garmin, the input voltage (for external power) range for the 76S is 10-40V, and the 60CSx/76CSx is 8-36V.
  11. Thanks Jay for showing how stupid I am. I appreciate the quick solution to my problem!! Much appreciated!! You're welcome, but don't be too hard on yourself!
  12. The contour lines connect points of equal elevation. Since the contour interval is consistent throughout the map, the steepness is indicated by the contour spacing - closer spacing indicates a steeper slope, and vice versa. Here's a Wikipedia article about topographic maps: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Topographic_map
  13. You need to shut down the HotSync Manager, as it has the COM port open.
  14. Your mapping options depend on what location you need detailed maps for. Do you want autorouting? Generally speaking, City Navigator/City Select gives you detailed autorouting street maps with best detail in metropolitan areas, and require unlock codes. Topo maps are, as you might expect, topographic maps with elevation contours etc. with streets which may or may not autoroute (depending on which product). Metroguide is similar to City Navigator/City Select, but may not autoroute (North America and Europe) on the GPS without the use of third-party software (i.e. SendMap) see here; Metroguide Canada does autoroute on the GPS natively and has much better detail outside of metropolitan areas. Here's a comparison of the MapSource products for Canada: http://www.gpscentral.ca/accessories/mapso...differences.htm and one for Europe: http://www.gpscentral.ca/accessories/europeandifferences.htm If you purchase a MapSource mapping product, you don't need the "Trip and Waypoint Manager" as it is simply MapSource with a non-GPS-downloadable basemap.
  15. Check the FAQ: http://home.houston.rr.com/gpsr/#Geocaching Here's a discussion on the subject: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=142711 Good Luck!
  16. The maps don't wrap like the tracklog does. Each time you upload a new mapset, the old one is overwritten.
  17. There isn't any, as the GPS 72 does not support maps.
  18. That's right: it is a USB Mini-B plug to USB A plug cable that is needed.
  19. Any mini-USB cable will do. They come with almost all digital cameras, many MP3 players, PDAs, etc. Nothing special about it.
  20. Here are some links: GPS 72 Manuals Working with Garmin Receivers BTW... to renumerate: To enumerate again, i.e. to recount. to remunerate: To repay, requite, make some return for (services, etc.). remuneration/renumeration
  21. Did you install the drivers? http://www.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=591
  22. Link to a similar thread: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...howtopic=141190 I'm not sure if Spanner will work with the Legend C.
  23. You need Garmin Spanner. It creates virtual COM ports and outputs NMEA converted from Garmin Protocol from an attached receiver. http://www.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=1627 It says it's for the GPS 18, but it works with other Garmin receivers with USB connections.
  24. Both TOPO Canada and MetroGuide Canada will autoroute on both the PC and the GPS receiver. Here's a helpful link: http://www.gpscentral.ca/accessories/mapso...differences.htm
