  1. Oh goody. Always wanted to log a DNF on KFC or 7-11 Jim
  2. Yeah, I've been asked to change my log. I wrote up a nice log on how clever the cache was and how I enjoyed finding it. I made a comment that where the cache was there was a fresh coat of paint, including the cache. The owner was upset because I gave away the location. Well, duh, the thing in my hand did a pretty good job of that. (it was a large wooden sign in a park. The area around the sign was grass. The needle pointed right at the sign. Where do you think the cache was hidden? A pico disguised as a blade of grass?) So I changed my log to "SL". Got a note back that I didn't have to do such a drastic job on the editing. Well, the SL doesn't give away anything, so whats the problem? Also had another note or two from owners upset about my logs. "TFTC SL" is much easier and doesn't get any requests for edits. So if you get more than a short sentence or two feel fortunate. Jim
  3. OK, I see the options now, but only for some states. Of my few cache states, only California has those option links. Thanks! works for me in Washington, Oregon and Kalifornia. Jim
  4. go to the individual states maps, there is a link(highlighted underlined text) for names and shading. Click the links and you have names and shading. THe default is no names and no shading. Jim
  5. I'll show you mine if you show me yours Jim
  6. what kind of GPS? Those without an electronic compass depend on the GPSr to be moving in order for the compass to display correctly. Those with electronic compasses require that the compass be calibrated. Local conditions can affect electronic compasses. I calibrate mine frequently, probably not needed but since is really simple, why not? Jim

Welcome to the sport and the forums. You can go to the page for the caches you found and in the upper left corner is a link to log your finds. Jim
  8. Wow! Marvin and Kilroy together! Looks really neat! Could I ask for a tweak on the sig item one? The Geocaching logo a bit smaller and the text in a circle at the top? I was going to put it on a round piece. Thanks! Jim
  9. I have to ask, define native language. The thought crossed my mind that perhaps the cache owner was using YOUR native language. But then again, perhaps I'm making an incorrect assumption on your native language. Jim
  10. It was not in your post. No rudeness - MY post was rude, and I had to kill it. Jholly, your post was a nice request for an avatar, and if Miz doesn't beat me to the task, I plan on working on it tomorrow or the day after. Now that it has caused angst, here's an explanation - my post reflected on that if I had a request for an avatar, and multiple folks gave it a try, I would thank ALL of them. That is often the case here. Yet, this comment is really not worth the time (or wasn't). Anyhoo - none of this is in regards to your post (just a silly happenstance of random placement), so my apologies! Thank you for clearing up my confusion Jeep_Dog. Apologies cheerfully accepted. The request was for an avatar/sig item on a Marvin the Martin theme with a "jholly was here" message. If there is discomfort about copyrights (as far as I can tell from the WB site use in a personal non-commercial context is permitted) a kilroy theme would be great. I'm also an Opus fan but I have not looked at any copyright issues there. TIA, Jim
  11. Thanks mizdeeds, but I'm not sure I could use it on the forums since I seemed to have rubbed Jeep_Dog the wrong way. I did want a avatar for a sig item, but guess I'll just skip it. Jim
  12. Sorry I offended you Jeep_Dog. Not sure what was rude about my previous post but I deleted it. Jim
  13. That only works in Flordia Jim
  14. Another option might be a lizardtoadz decoder coin. You can use it for a Vigenere Cypher. The coins, paper version and other info can be found here. Jim
  15. I hope this is not step one of a twelve step program. Jim
  16. I just tap it with my wand and say [deleted by the ministry] Jim
  17. I wouldn't be to quick on marking them missing. Someone might have picked them up and haven't logged them yet. I would give at least three months before I would do that. Some folks are really lax when it comes to logging, or it might be someone new that doesn't understand travel bugs. Now where is that bread .... Jim
  18. www.gsak.net is your answer. GSAK is a really neat program and there are some really super macros for mapping and statistics, along with logging. Go find a Palm IIIxe for around $20 and enjoy paperless caching with cachemate from smittyware.com. Just my opinion. Jim
  19. Any one using Google Maps to generate Arc/Poly filters for GSAK? TIA, Jim
  20. Yeah I use to write nice logs. But then I kept getting "please edit your log, you gave away the area where the cache is hidden". Hello, my gpsthingy did that. So now it is "SL" or if I really feel wordy "found, logged, left." Cuts down on the log re-editing. Jim
  21. That is the point where you aim your ICBM. Jim
  22. Do you just keep them or trade them? Or just leave them there? Jim
  23. My favorite swag is pictures of Ben Franklin. Haven't found one yet. Found a few pictures of George Washington. Jim
