  1. I've gotten custom icons to work with POI loader on a 60csx (2.9 / 2.6) Saved as a 16x16 bmp named "geocache.bmp" with a file "geocache.gpx". However the 255,0,255 color is not transparent. Anyone figure out which color is transparent?
  2. On the garmin 60csx under the find menu there is a POI list for "geocache". However this list is empty and I can't find any way to add anything to it. Garmin's manual says "see the web page" and the web page says "see geocaching.com" -- pathetic. Garmin tech support says "import a gdx file" (while negecting to mention what a gdx file is or what I might be importing it into) -- pathetic! I assume they actually mean GPX -- triple pathetic! When I export a loc file from geocaching.com and load it into mapsource that stores the caches as waypoints (albeit with the right icon and name), but doesn't put them into the "geocache" list. If I import a "geocache.gpx" file does it put those items into the find's geocache category? I can't believe how difficult garmin chooses to make this.
  3. The yahoo maps beta has better satellite images for some locations. I don't know whose underlying data they're using, but I like it better than Google maps/earth about 1/2 of the time.
  4. you can get one at offroute.com for $10
  5. I have a 60csx with just the basemaps at present (ms nav coming soon). I note that when I mouse over freeway exits that I can select them and get a list of the businesses at that exit. Great info! However, I can't find any way of searching for those names. For example, route me to the closest In-N-Out Burger. Instead I have to select the exits one by one: booo! When you install the "real" mapsource navigator maps, can you do this kind of searching? Or can you get a "businesses within 10 miles" list?
  6. Great in the sun. BUT... if you have polarized sunglasses on, some angles from the sun won't work. Try rotating it a bit or look under the glasses. As someone else noted some cars have polarized windows too.
  7. Anyone have a second gps they can use as a control for a measured hike? FWIW in the car, the 60csx agreed with the odometer to within 2% over 100 miles driving.
  8. I get great reception in the car. If you start up in the car it seems to acquire faster under the windshield/window, but otherwise it is great anywhere in the car. On the other hand, my older victorian wattle/daub house is a big faraday cage. Cell phones are weak and the gps is too. I often lose signal in the house. No need for a tinfoil hat here. I was able to acquire and hold a very weak signal (but 3d) from the depths of the El Dorado casino in Reno.
  9. What are the dimensions of the invisibleshield for the 60s? Does it cover only the LCD part or the entire inset screen area from "GPSmap 60..." at the top to "GARMIN" at the bottom? Is the bottom flat or cut to fit around the curved IN/OUT buttons? thanks!
