Did you like it?) but also ask him if he doesn't want to place his own cache(s). The answer is usually 'yes' but then nothing much happens. Or am I just too impatient? The situation is almost the same here in Finland. All geocachers do want find caches, but only few of them will place new ones But i guess the situation is pretty much the same in every country. My personal goal is to place about 10 regular/micro caches plus few virtual caches, few webcam caches and several locationless caches.
  3. If anyone wants to use my ideas of the locationless caches i mentioned earlier, please feel free to use them...
  4. quote:Originally posted by BrianSnat:I'm not a fan of locationless caches, so I don't want to encourage them. Well, you should try to find some of them, as you may also learn something. At least i have learned several things (for example what is a meromictic lake) and seen many interesting things and places that i would have otherwise never seen.
  5. > - obelisk - can be found around the globe > - old milestone (made of stone) - at least in > USA, Great Britain & Ireland > - old kilometer stone (made of stone) - rest > of the world And some more: - ship anchor out of place, i.e. out of ship, for example as a monument in a park - meteor craters of the world - retired helicopters What do you think about these as a locationless caches?
  6. quote:Originally posted by worldtraveler:Please? As you've said, there are already so (too) many. Why encourage more of this illigitimate spawn? What will you do when you have found all the caches that are in reasonable distance from your home and when you have placed so many caches that you do not want place any more of them? Will you stop geocaching ? That's the situation i have now so only caches i can still find are the locationless caches, so i really do want to encourage more geocachers to think about also locationless caches... (BTW, i have asked many geocachers to place new regular caches in their hometown or homecounty but only 1 one of them have placed a new cache...)
  7. This is what we wrote to log: ----------------------------- Hi ! This was the first traditional cache we have found. The forest near the outlook tower was incredibly full of all kind of trash, especially broken glass; it was like a dumping place. The slope was very difficult for the kids, we had to carry the younger one. Anyway, when we finally found the cache, quite easily in fact, with the help of the photos, the kids were very anxious. They chose a little buddha and a shell, and we left a wooden pin and a nice ball point pen. By the way, there was an other cacher just next to this cache: a siberian nutcracker was hiding nuts on the ground! Regards, Captain Morgan & Family
  8. Today there is 240 locationless caches in geocaching.com database. When i browsed through them, i noticed that many interesting locationless cache ideas are already there. I mean such locationless caches that are truly locationless, not restricted to one state or one country. What is left ? Here's something that came in to my mind: obelisk - can be found around the globe old milestone (made of stone) - at least in USA, Great Britain & Ireland old kilometer stone (made of stone) - rest of the world List your suggestions !
  9. Hi ! Could someone, who can can read french and write in english, check this locationless cache and translate it to english and save the translation as a note to cache's page as the owner does not reply to my mail. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=33547 Thanks in advance ! Olli Haukkovaara
  10. I was about to paste more locationless caches that are marked only as virtual caches, but i can't as i've accidentally deleted my bookmark file... :-(
  11. What about the other such caches, should i and others just mail the links to you or copy/paste them in this thread ?
  12. How do you then call a stone that act's like i described earlier ?
  13. Hi ! How do you search for locationless caches that are marked only as virtual caches ? There are many of them in the geocaching.com database, see for example Väderkvarnar ( = Windmills) ( http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=27290 ) or Smoke Report ( http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=20738 ). They are both definately locationless caches, but neither of them can be found from the list of locationless caches. And there are many more caches like these two.

  15. What's the problem with this "swinging stones" discussion? Is it that we non-native english writers use that word some kind of wrong, or is it so that some people have never seen a swinging stone ? At least for me a swinging stone is a stone that has such a shape; egg-shaped, low-U-shaped etc., that when it lies above other stones it swings or rocks i.e. it moves or acts almost like a cradle. Regards, Olli

  17. While uploading pictures, i'll get errors like this: ------------------------------------------------ HTTP 500.100 - Internal Server Error - ASP error Internet Information Services Technical Information (for support personnel) * Error Type: (0x80070070) /upload/log_images.asp, line 179 * Browser Type: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.0.1) Gecko/20020823 Netscape/7.0 * Page: POST 44517 bytes to /upload/log_images.asp * POST Data: error '80020009' Exception occurred. /IISHelp/common/500-100.asp, line 223
  18. "It is under a swinging stone, only few meters from the water." And guess what was there - a small cape full of nothing but stones and tens of them were swinging...
  19. Hi! When a user deletes a locationless cache log entries, for example because the cache was found earlier by someone else, the pages still claim that the user have found that cache. This is clearly a bug, not a critical one, but would be nice if webmaster would correct it. Regards, Olli Haukkovaara

  22. Well, here in far north we may have easily at least 10-15 inches of snow which will bury many caches, so they can not be found until spring. Personally i have tried to place all my caches so that it does not matter how much snow there is.
  23. Hi! Especially for northern areas, and mountains too, it would be very useful if there is an icon right after the cache name, a snow flake or something, which tells that cache can be found even if there is snow on the ground. What do you think about this idea ? Regards, Olli [This message was edited by Captain_Morgan&Family on September 27, 2002 at 12:08 PM.]
  24. Sorry to bother you all, but i found a geocacher today from another sister city ! Thanks anyway !
  25. I'm looking for someone to help me with bspeng's Sisters cache. Jönköping is a sister city to my hometown of Valkeakoski, Finland. If you are from Jönköping or can get to the city easily, please check out this cache. If it sounds like something that you would like to team up with me to log, please send me an email and we can work out plans for completing it. Thanks!
