  1. Sounds like a fun hide. I love it when cachers put time into the caches to add a theme or story, and your archeology dig idea is a clever one. Ignore the nattering nabobs of negativism and go for it.
  2. Looks like a great puzzle, go for it
  3. Homesteader GCH938, I don't think they can get easier than this. The hint reads: You will have to take approximately 10 - 15 paces from coordinates to get the cache. Once you are close ask the nice person for it!
  4. As part of the nanny group I would say no to caches on the equipment, in the park is great. I love to cache with my kids especially when we can stick around and play for a while too. But, just because it would be approved does not make it a good idea.
  5. While you have cookies enabled check to make sure that you have not set your browser to delete your history when you close the browser.
  6. Love it along with the idea that there is a log/item area with the TB. Go for it...
  7. Well, I hope folks aren't just putting junk around and calling it a cache; to say nothing for the fact they have to be 500 ft apart (1/10th of a mile). Have fun in while caching. If having caches out there bothers you then stop caching... Remember to CITO always leave things better when you leave and pick up after all of the junk throwers out there...
  8. For those of us in the colder areas winter is not so bad; you can always put on another layer of clothes, but in the summer there is only so much you can remove
  9. Had a chance to watch it over the weekend, and it was exactly what I had expected after reading the posts in this forum. Luckily I found the stop button on my remote and only wasted 15 minutes on this garbage. I'm disappointed that geocaching.com would put their name in a movie with language they don't allow on their website.
  10. Short version, with a little history, you can try to engineer your caches to last longer. You could also use the information to track down caches that have been abandoned to help with geolitter. Got it, and that makes sense. Thank you
  11. I guess it may be interesting to see where caches used to be, but what exactly are you hoping to gain from this type of map? just curious, not negative []
  12. I apologize the last response was too much, and get's us off the topic of logging a find. Log anything you want, because in the end this is about having fun. Since you asked about it my guess is that you feel it may not be the right thing to do; if so go with your gut and don't log it. Otherwise log the cache and move on. No one is going to take your first born, or even batteries from your gps for logging this cache. Have fun []
  13. Who cares about "the count" you're not going to win anything for having the most. And, obviously you do care otherwise you wouldn't call someone a 'retard'. If you truly don't care then why call names, and if you DO care say so. Caching tells a lot about a person's character. Only the person, him/her self, knows the truth. The bottom line is I hope that all people do the right thing regardless, but I know we live in a world of liars, cheats and name callers. Guess all of us don't grow up beyond middle school. humorous or sardonic literary style or form characterized by incongruity between the actual result of a sequence of events and the normal or expected result. You want to find the word that definition belongs too? ~~~EDIT~~~ altered a homonym. Honor virtutis praemium (esteem is the reward of virtue... edited the less the kind response that was posted.

  15. My grandpappy always said to leave things better than you found them. If there is junk in a cache throw it out and put something decent in there. It would be great if the owners of caches would do regular maintenance, but let’s be honest some cachers have placed numerous caches across the country and are not going to check them on a regular basis. So, just do the neighborly thing and help out, kind of the point of CITO as well. Typically I cache with my kids and we primarily look for larger caches that have been recently placed so they can actually trade items.
  16. I agree that it is the puzzle that makes the cache great. I would not be disappointed with a small container as long as it had some character and log book with some size. As others have posted, I too like to be able to read the log book and add my story as well. I am more concerned about the puzzle itself, I want either something that is challenging or takes me to interesting locations.
  17. Not a bad idea, then those who want to avoid this type of cache won't waste their time, and those who want to light up their lives with shocking caches can have a sparking good time....
  18. I have an HTC PPC, depending on your carrier the model number will vary. I love the slide-out keyboard, and touch screen. It run windows mobile and I have geoscout for my caching.
  19. I agree with btgeocacher, this is not a good idea. This weekend I took the kids out and coordinates led us to a pole with 2 electrical boxes, one locked and the other open. Well the open one was live. I emailed the cacher and the actual cache is about 60 feet away, his coordinates are off, and he hasn't fixed them yet. Before a couple of you start and say the problem is the person who placed the cache, and if you don't know don't open, don't let kids near them... yadda yadda... the point is that there are so many of these out there mixed in with live boxes, unlabeled, and ill-maintained, it can be scary for family cachers. So, I don't let the kids near them and if I know in advance (and they are almost never listed as 'electrical' in the description) we just skip them. Our right to give them a pass and urge people to play safe.
  20. I am in the same boat, I have on a couple of occasions helped out with some caches that were placed by someone who does not live in the area. It never hurts to politely ask someone if you can help out.
  21. Well, I guess I will stop lurking . I am a school administrator and have found caching to be a great family activity. Our kids love the treasure hunting aspect and I love the time outdoors. My kids have hidden our first caches so the fun just continues.
  22. I have a HTC smartphone using Windows Mobile. I tried downloading cachemate, but cannot install it (it says its not a valid win32 application) I am currently trying the 30 day trial of geoscout and it looks good so far.
