  1. Female here. My boyfriend, Mr. O, found this website from another site about a year ago. He's a lot more active than I am, but we're both involved in the Central Ohio Geocachers club. Oh, and I'm a brunette.
  2. quote:Originally posted by BrushFire:There is a rumor around here, that there is some sort of old bunker complex in gates mills. I have traveled the area myself, but in the dead of winter, and the cold was too much for me. Anyways, on County Line Road, a bit North of Brooklane lies a small Horticulture Center. Enter the drive and park the car, making sure to set it as a waypoint! Investigate there area to the left and right of the parking lot, you may notice a lot of concrete..and something sticking out of the ground. Feel free to investigate them. You will also notice a long road going back into the woods. Taking the road all the way back leads to a culdasak and..some sort of structure. Invistage that area! There are many interesting features on the property, many of which even I haven't figured out. However, someone there is a bunker. If your lucky, it will still be filled with goodies from the people who hid there for Y2K! Good luck, and happy hunting. Here are the coordinates for the Center: N41 33.757 W81 23.450 Enjoy! PS: Look in the woods too, there is a lot between the two development. Mike (BrushFire) Garmin GPS V Speaking of military bases.....I recently hid a cache in an area, that I believe was once part of military base. I know that there was once a very large base in the area, but I'm not aware that it stretched to this area. The area that it's in looks like it was used for agricultural use for a while, but when I investigated some of the buildings a little closer I noticed somethings, like a sign saying something about explosives, that indicates that it just might be part of a military base. I used to live about 1.5 miles away..when I first found this area about 3-4 years ago there was a lot more evidence of it being a military base. I don't know of it being haunted...however I do know that part of the military base that truly did exist was used as a German POW camp during WWII... Anyhow if you ever get a chance to make it to central OH, check out Abandoned cache.
  3. quote:Originally posted by Readymixer~Vol:Are there any publications or newsletters out there about our sport? If you shoot for the moon and only get half way, think about how far you've gone. As far as I know there isn't. Unless there are some of the regional/local "clubs" that put something out. I think that the forums here more or less serve the newsletter purpose.
  4. Ok, I've been geocaching for a little while now and want to find some benchmarks for a change...but I can't figure out how you open 'em up to get to the McToys inside. Do you need some sort of secret code or something? Just kidding....seriously though my question is this....Are all benchmarks, unless missing, disks with the info stamped on them, or prominant landmarks? I've looked at logs and pictures, and this is really all I see, however in the descriptions I see some are listed as a metal rod. I want to know what I might be looking for when I go out.

But I've also think that the terrorists are putting up some sort of device to make my GPS point in the wrong direction...I think they're trying to lead me off cliffs or something.

Not that, that was all that hard but I did not have the patience to figure it out for a second time. Yeah I wasn't sure if you decided to do that, or if someone was being mean due to all of the "controversy" lately.

  9. quote:Originally posted by umc:My Dad stopped by my house last night and brought with him two fifty milimeter ammo boxes. I plan on using these for my first hides. So what does everyone know about these ammo boxes for caches. I know that people use them and all but have you all heard any complaints about them other than they attract the bomb squad? Many of the caches here in Central OH are ammo boxes (it's pretty much a toss up when you go on a hunt....it'll either be an ammo box or tupperware). I have about 20 finds thus far between me and my team, and I've never found a wet ammo box, but I have found several wet tupperware. So that, in my opinion, is the way to go. Waterproof, easy to camo (already OD Green), lots of room inside, and cheap. I used one for the cache I just placed. I made sure to write the coordinates and geocaching website on the outside too, to help people locate it, and possibly give the bomb squad a course of action before blowing it up, if it were to ever come to that. BTW, did you add that signature, or did someone do that for ya?

I've seen lots of flooding down south, and even around here we have flood watches. I wonder how many caches were damaged in the past few days. http://home.columbus.rr.com/rubbertoe/index.html Click the Toe... and please stop confusing your opinion with fact, ok? I was thinking the same thing last night. I just placed a cache in North Central OH (Where Eagles Soar, if you're interested) last weekend. I think that, if the rain lets up a little tomorrow, I'm going out to check on it, since there was no way to test it's waterproofness (I know it's not a word) before this 2 day straight rain.

Cache you later, Planet I guess that was the difference, I'd left my GPSr in the car, I guess I should keep it with me at all times. As for the lady with the built in GPSr, she could always drive around in the woods until she gets close then start searching around. Low impact caching what? She probably wouldn't want to scratch up her Mercedes/Lexus/BMW/Caddy whatever though. (BTW I forgot to log out of the team name on this post.....this is actually Mr. 0) [This message was edited by M&M Speedracers on September 21, 2002 at 12:46 PM.]

That works out to a mere 22.857 caches per day, way below the record Pray for me >Personally Responsible for the Recovery of .00217% of the Benchmark Database!<--watch this number! Good Luck with that...I would love to find the time to do that many caches in one day. So what is the record??

But what really gets her excited is when I use the words "mountain meadow" and "alone" in the same sentence. All she asks is that I bring an extra blanket!!! Another thing that is fun is to combine two activites. Hunting season is upon us here high in the Rockies, so I will combine geocaching with deer/elk hunting. And since I haven't gotten a deer or elk in over 10 years, at least this way, I will have something to show for my efforts. Hehe. Just make sure you don't get confused and start shooting at the caches, and trying to find Elk with your GPSr

All that is left is my dog Alley who love's going on the adventures. Friends think I am crazy for doing this on the weekends. How many of you all have the same problem? My GF goes with me on most hunts, but she thinks I'm crazy and obsessive since Geocaching is about all I talk about anymore.
