  1. Unless you noticed all 1s on your odometer? Maybe? Come on, how cool is that!
  2. Is Waymarking down or something? When I try to upload a picture I am rudely greeted with this comment: An error occured in the File Upload Service. There was no endpoint listening at http://bishop.Groundspeak.com:8000/FileService.svc that could accept the message. This is often caused by an incorrect address or SOAP action. See InnerException, if present, for more details."
  3. ....and yet you can visit the site where the milestone happened. I think many people have forgot (especially new comers) that this is actually a game also. We have plenty of fun categories like "What's in a Name". Some categories are actually limited availability. So, it is my opinion that argument is not a valid one. There is nothing wrong with having fun in this hobby. I think it would be a blast to keep track of odometers and log it when a special number comes up like 50,000 or 333333 or 565656 (you get the idea).
  4. So, I thought this would be a fun category. Anyone interested or should I just submit it to a community-wide vote.
  5. So, Tom, wanna be an officer in the category. It's about time we had a category that was game based.
  6. Had a wonderful milestone moment today while trekking out to find the only covered bridge in Philadelphia, or for that matter the only covered bridge in any major city. Anyway, I just had to post this to my category. Check it out! Where: N 40° 04.496 W 75° 02.116 Sunoco @ Welsh Road & the Lincoln Highway, Philadelphia, PA 19115 ‎ When: Wednesday, August 14, 2013
  7. Folks, let me know what you want to do and then someone can write an addition to the existing category, UNLESS there are reasonable objections.
  8. I received an initial reply from razalas indicating some interest but the need to consult with his officers first. I have not yet received a subsequent reply, so, in consideration of the initiatve put forth that will allow waymarks not captured by Grand Opening to be submitted, I would ask Math Teacher to proceed as intended. Should a reply from razalas be received in the meanting, I will forward it asap. Moving forward, I need officership..please indicate if you will be an officer in this category. You would be responsible for designing, writing and implementing the category by way of consensus.
  9. Vane wrought to the officership a few days ago so we are in a holding pattern for about 4 more days. If there is no reply or a negative reply we will move forward unless someone has a serious objection.
  10. Well, tell me what you want to do before I write it up. I personally do not care one way or the other. Do we or do we not accept submissions which fit into the existing category? What say you all? WV, Thanks for sending the e-mail. Depending on their reply, this may be all moot. Eric
  11. oooooh, now I see. If they do not accept them in the cornerstone category then we would accept them in our new category.
  12. Weathervane, I'm with you. So, I vote for you to ask them if they will include this category. If not, then we will go ahead and continue with its development. Tante.Hossi, What in the world is a foundation stone? Can you give us an example including a description, the text, and its location.
  13. wait...how about Opening Commemorations & Dedications Oh yeah!
  14. Ooohhhhhh..I like Opening Commemorations...All In favor? Speak up now....
  15. Ugh! I cannot think of an appropriate title for the new category. I was thinking perhaps "Opening Commemorations" or "Inauguration Commemorations" (which is my first choice). What do you think?
  16. Welcome aboard. We have three officers so I will write up the category unless anyone has any objections. E
  17. Dan, I am in agreement with what you have written and clearly you have an understanding of what the category entails. Welcome aboard!
  18. Recently, I have had to deny waymarks in the Commercial Commemorations category as the markers presented were to commemorate the opening of something. These markers did not have who dedicated, only the date, name of the company and there interesting information. I was excited to see a new category called Grand Opening, however this category does not fit for all those markers out there that commemorate the year zero. I have been wanting to remedy that for a few years now. The problem is these markers which I have found or have been presented to me do not have the "by a person" component requirement for that category. Therefore, I would like to develop this category and wanted some volunteers for the officership. Clearly the category is not redundant. It would take precedence over the Signs of History category as they would no longer go there. They are found in every nation and every clime. They are prevalent but not annoyingly so. I hope we can get some volunteers and get this thing rolling. Thanks! Eric
  19. Terrible news. I am so sorry to hear. Sadly, our ranks have been diminished with a loss of a terrific Waymarker. I have never met him but from all accounts he was a great fellow. My thoughts are with his family.
  20. When an NRHP property is listed as a site and not a district, can it have contributing structures and can those be waymarked in the NRHP Historic Districts - Contributing Buildings category? I recently visited the Paoli Massacre Site and learned it is listed on the NRHP as Paoli Battlefield Site and Parade Grounds (site). After reading the nomination form for that site locted HERE---> https://www.dot7.state.pa.us/ce_imagery/phmc_scans/H079481_01H.pdf, I discovered 9 items or objects (or whatever) contribute to the site, even though it is not listed as a district. So I say, can they be waymarked individually as contributing structures in the NRHP Historic Districts - Contributing Buildings category??
