  1. No, I have not. I have tried to work with the function, but have not had much time to figure it out due to summer school. I just moved to a new town and wanted to use my GPS to help me find my way around by addresses. I will try to spend some weekend time this next week and check out the new feature.
  2. I will check that out. I am not sure what I got, it looked right - the second number was listed with a - before the W coordinates and looked longer than what I am familiar with.
  3. Wondered if anyone knows of a site for putting in an address and getting accurate latitude and longitude coordinates. We tried this weekend, but the site gave us coordinates that were quite a bit off.
  4. EXACTLY! Who's total find count? Yours, or the person that logs events more than once? I don't log my finds, log them with my family under their team name. I do think that find counts should be better categorized so that you could log different types of finds like the ones at events, this new when you meet people idea, or the more traditional ones now found. I thought you were referring to the total find count on "traditional" caches.
  5. We found out about it from a friend, now went to look for it. I can't seem to locate the cache, maybe destroyed by the hurricane last fall? Also not that many around the Playa area. More in Cozumel. We have some underwater caches in my state, I guess I'll have to try those instead... bummed.
  6. When using snorkel mask or dive mask , thought it might be easy enough to see, but was not sure about how the satellites worked, that is why I asked! I just got the GPS, used to go with my parents when they went and I wanted to try this on my own since they just gave it to me.
  7. Thank you for the information. Going to Playa del Carmen. Most of the caches are quite a drive away and will will need to rent a car to get to them. There is one virtual in town, but I thought that an underwater one sounded fun.
  8. My parents and I are going to Mexico next week. There are some geocaches there and one is underwater. My parents gave me their old Garmin Legend. When this is underwater, will you actually be able to see the coordinates or does the water distort it? I will have swim goggles along. Also, does the GPS compass have to be readjusted? We thought we read something about traveling more than 500 miles from home and you have to recalibrate the compass?
  9. It was a nice try... Just a kick in the pants to remind folks that sometimes there are extenuating circumstances when you find a cache. It is easy to "label" someone a cheat isn't it? Drawer slams shut... P.S. I believe he found this cache on his own, without help from the owner. But if I sat around reading other people's logs all day, I could have interpreted it as cheating.
  10. No it's not cheating. If he found it on his own. It doesn't matter if the owner was present or not. Besides that, you are insulting a friend of mine. A man that has a lot of integerity. Like posting under his own name. Can you say the same sock? El Diablo Really? Since when? I thought cheating was cheating? If I drag the owner along with me and they show me where the cache is that is not cheating??, give me a break. Okay back into my sock now.
  11. Why? Are you the Cache Police, or information brokerage? In Charge of reeling in cheaters? Sorry, but three days a week Criminal gets to take two hour lunches to hit the gym. You see, he has many varied interests other than just geocaching. Sometimes he slips into this weird place where he talks about himself in the third person. No, I’m not the cache police. I do, however, find cheating* deplorable. The vast majority of the people who have responded think it’s wrong/stupid/lame to log a Found It on a cache that you did not find, the owner of the website has also said pretty much the same thing, and yet people are still whining when they are exposed for doing it. Why are they sending the information to me? I can’t say with certainty. Maybe they don’t want to rock the local boat but find the practice wrong, maybe they aren’t confrontational, or maybe they don’t want to upset their geocaching friends that do it. *I recognize that many of the people who got caught up in this didn’t intentionally cheat, but were mentored by some who did. Inadvertent cheating – wrong Intentional cheating – deplorable Intentionally cheating at a game with no prizes merely to puff up your ego – pricelessly appalling. THOSE WHO LIVE IN GLASS HOUSES..... December 10, 2005 by Criminal (318 found) Found this one on a cache maintenance visit with the owner. It takes some technique to retrieve it. Thanks! [view this log on a separate page] Is not finding a cache with the owner cheating/lying? A bit hypocritical...
