  1. I'm not sure exactly where this post should go, so I stuck it in this forum. Basically, my question is: why are Virtual Caches eliminated (yes, I know that the oldies were grandfathered in), but Earth Caches are still a going concern? Don't get me wrong, I think Earth Caches are a lot of fun, but not everyone cares all that much for geology; and may prefer something regarding history, for example. This sounds like a perfect fit for more Virtuals.
  2. I found this Benchmark yesterday @ Fisher Cemetery, the oldest cemetery in Clark County, WA. (approx. N 45 35.381 W 122 30.174) I'd appreciate any sage advice anyone can give me about this thingy. BM near waypoint #1
  3. I don't think that was entirely helpful.
  4. I've only had my 62s for 5 days now...no squeaks yet! Basically, I just use it for geocaching, at which it's awesome! I especially like the 62s' accuracy, satellite sensitivity (I can turn it on in my apartment [ground floor of a 2-story building] & it immediately acquires the little devils! My old eTrex Legend Cx would never acquire satellites indoors at all.) The only advantage the old eTrex had was the "delete" button which would allow one to remove found caches individually, as opposed to all the hoops one must jump through with the 62s. That's a small price to pay for all the advantages. I was especially hooked when my 1st find with the 62s turned out to be a FTF!
  5. My elder son got me hooked about 3 months ago...for the 1st 5 weeks I had NO GPSr but I still managed to grab 17 caches! I was hooked right from the get-go. As an aside, in my neck of the woods (Vancouver WA) there has been very little caching activity the last couple of days, probably because we have had about 2½ inches of rain during that time. I thank God we don't have tornadoes very often here. I'm really starting to get cabin fever...
  6. FTFs are bad only when COs get so caught up with them they forget to maintain their own caches...
  7. Their update page says "be back Monday," but it doesn't say which Monday...
  8. My PM was gifted to me by my elder son. I didn't have a clue till he looked at me with a smirk on his face & said "maybe someone bought it for you!" Smarty pants...
  9. I have also noticed over this weekend how laggy geocaching.com has become. If it's this bad on a relatively nice spring weekend, what will it be like when summer rolls around? And while I'm on a roll (or rant, whatever), why must I sign in a 2nd time to post on the forum? I've never ever seen this anywhere else.
  10. I'm somewhat confused. I'm pretty new at this hobby/sport/obsession & I see that one particular geocacher has over 5700 hides! How in the wide wide world of sports can he keep up with the maintenance?
  11. Obviously I changed my "handle" from Javan64 ... so my new name simply means, Popcorn = my favorite food! 3/13 = the month/year I started this nonsense!
  12. Mine is the same name I use on chess.com (Javan = resident of Java--hey, it sounded neat! 64 = how many squares on a chess board?)
  13. Years ago, we were coming to Sacramento Int'l Airport from the south. If we would have blindly followed the idiot GPS unit, we would have ended up on the other side of I-5. We followed our eyes instead & zoomed right up to SAC with no problems at all. Sometimes the old ways are better...
