  1. When I was running 1.8 waypoints would automatically be added when I downloaded a geocache. With the new 2.15, it doesn't do that, at least not for me. Anyone else notice that? It was a handy feature, because it showed local parking, etc.
  2. Oddly enough, I went an re-downloaded the PC version of v2.15 last night and it installed perfectly! I have no idea why or how, but they can keep their refurbished crap!
  3. I have the Galaxy SII Epic 4G and I used it for my first Geocaching hunt ever and we found 8 caches that day. It worked great! However, I didn't like carrying an expensive phone around and have to worry about it, so I've bought a GPS unit. I compared them on the trail and they both landed me at the same exact spot! It did kill the battery though. However, it lasted a good 3 hours.
  4. I just hate to take a refurbished and send back a brand new. I was just curious as to what the upgrade added or made better, if anything. The odometer hardly worked at all, I started it, but it only told us how far we went, none of the other stats worked. Not that I need to know how fast I walked, etc., but for the price it should all work. I only use it for geocaching, so at this point and time I have no need for additional maps. I did notice that I had it set to beep at me when we were w/in so many feet from the cache, I think it was 20, and it never beeped. However, if you are just standing around doing nothing it beeps like crazy. Maybe I should read the manual on why it beeps.
  5. As some of you read in an older post, I couldn't upgrade from 1.8 to 2.15. So I'm asking those of you who have 2.15 if it's worth it. Here's why. I contacted Magellan and they were really nice, they told me the 1.8 could not upgrade to the 2.15 so they would replace my BRAND NEW unit with another BRAND NEW unit. They e-mail me today to say they sent out a REFURBISHED unit! I told them, that isn't exactly what I had in mind, because I bought mine on Amazon and it was BRAND NEW! Why would I want to swap a what I have for a refurbished unit, just to gain firmware 2.15? So... is 2.15 worth it and can someone here who has it tell me what it actually upgrade, etc. Much appreciated, thanks!
  6. I just got that one and used it for several hours the other day with the brightness all the way up and I still had a full battery icon when we finished.
  7. I had the same problem, but then I downloaded Vantage Point from the Magellan website and when I connected my GC it came up saying there was an update and installed it automatically for me. Maybe give that a shot? I'll try that, easier than swapping since the unit is literally brand new, never used! Didn't work. Tried a few times. Still says firmware is 1.8 and no prompt to upgrade it.

  9. That's interesting consider 1.8 is completely identical to 1.7 except for the version number. (only newer GC had 1.8 and Magellan never offered 1.8 to the public). I wonder if the updater thinks 1.8 is an invalid version and won't update the unit. There are ways I know for sure where you could get ver 2.15 on it but if Magellan told you to send it back, send it back and get a new one. Odd. It is brand new already, lol. I just got it on Wednesday! So... I'm waiting to see if I have to return this one, which I suspect that I do.
  10. I just spoke to Magellan, and they informed me that if you have 1.8 software, it cannot be upgraded to 2.15 and they are replacing my brand new one for free with a newer version. Can't beat that!
  11. I seemed to have clicked the wrong forum and posted this question near states I'm incredibly far away from! So here goes... Hi, I'm new to Geocaching and love it! However, I would like to meet some people in my area who also love to geocache who I can join and have some fun, meet new people, etc. I'm in the 15666 zip area. Willing to travel 30 miles any direction to meet. I'm an adult geocacher, but other than my family, I don't know anybody who does this here.
  12. As a Geocacher from Southeast PA I did not recognize your Southwest PA Zip. We have already had the Mid Atlantic vs Northeast discussion around here. You are a lot closer to the Midwest than I am, but you probably really do want this in the Mid Atlantic forum. The very best way to meet fellow local cachers is go to local events. We are in the 9th year locally of a monthly sit down in a Restaurant event. Sit there for a few hours over dinner with fellow cachers and talk about anything you like. Over time you will learn and remember more and more names and faces. It might not happen right away, but spend enough time around events, and some of them will become friends. I have many new friends met at events, and have cached with several of them. Group night hikes are particularly popular. I would rather be alone in the woods at night than most cities, but many do not feel that way. If someone suggests a group activity, join in. Just keep showing up and get to know as many people as possible. I can't find a Northeast forum, hence, I'm assuming there isn't one and that is what the argument is about? LOL

  14. What operating system are you running? Windows XP SP1, SP2 SP3; Vista; Windows 7; Windows 8 and is it a 32 or 64 bit version? Also, have to tried downloading the update again to see if the file was corrupted in the download process? David Magellan Insider/Beta Tester I'm running Windows 7 64 bit. I did download the upgrade 3 times and all 3 times, same message!
  15. It suddenly started working, no idea why, but I'm not complaining. However, I will try the PQ idea next time I download caches! Sounds like a nice solution. I will also look up GSAK, thank you1
  16. I am running 1.8 and I wanted to upgrade to 2.15. I downloaded the update and when I go to install it says: "not a valid Win32 application." I even tried running as admin. Nothing works.
  17. Can you access the device as a USB Drive on your computer? David Magellan Insider/Beta Tester Yes, if I open up start>computer I can see it listed as a drive. I noticed it comes with like 1000+ cache on it that I don't want. I guess my next question would be, how does one delete them? If I ever figure out how to put new ones on!
  18. Hi, I just got mine today, so I decided, why not update! My version is running 1.8.1349.777 and when I tried to install the update, it says it's "not a valid Win32 application". On the same note, I can't send caches from the site to my GPS either and I did install the plug-in (see other post for that problem). I'm getting frustrated!
  19. I just purchased the Magellan eXplorist GC and I followed all the instructions to the letter. I have the USB cable in, I downloaded the plug-in I needed from this site and when I try and send a cache to my GPS unit, it says, "cannot locate device". I've uninstalled, reinstalled, powered off, powered on, unplugged, replugged, etc. and it still can't see my device. It's useless if I cannot send cache to it! Help!
