  1. thanks everyone! this forum is awesome and i am going to try all your ideas and pick the one i like best!
  2. hi, i am new to gsak-absolutely love it. last week i sent 100 geocaches to my gps in about 3 seconds-just amazing. this week i received my pocket querie which contains 10 caches and cache updates. my question is this do i send the new caches only to the gps (1-10) or do i sent the whole batch again (now 100-110) -i don't want to obviously end up with 2 of the same and a big mess. however, i did notice when loading to gsak that some items were cache updates. i have a garmin 76csx (love the little guy) and am also using cachemate software. i also read somewhere that the 76csx garmin units support 14 smart characters-would like to try this also. thanks all!
  3. i've had my 76csx for a couple of weeks now. i have absolutely NO buyer's remorse. congratulations!
  4. ps. you will need a micro sd card adaptor though (at least i have not seen a card reader with that small of a slot). most of the micro cards come packaged with one
  5. actually it is super easy to load your card with no glitches if you use a card reader/writer-i use sandisk brand with usb 2.0. most of the time is spent with file indexing but the load is quick. of course you still have the deal that you have to load all your maps at one time because with mapsource the previous file is deleted. the card readers cost around 20 bucks and are worth it especiallly if your camera uses a card also
  6. ok here is the garmin site troubleshooting instructions:http://www.garmin.com/support/faqs/faq.jsp?faq=42&webPage=Main%20web%20page step 4: is your transfer mode set to garmin?
  7. yes, and use one on the back of your computer-not the front-heard that that can also make a difference
  8. tungsten E2 in hard case, gsak, cachemate, 76csx-works great!
  9. i'm not geo, but i am using a gillson pouch on my 76csx-it has the plastic screen cover, big metal clip, and velcro/fabric tab to hook on to backpack, etc. it is the newest neoprene gillson pouch. got mine on ebay for $8.33 plus s/h. happy
  10. i keep getting the message from gsak that you have to be a gc.com premium member to download .gpx files. it will let you load the .loc files. i have logged on as premium and for some reason only the .loc ones load and i get the premium member message. i am now trying to get a zipped pq file in the mail. hopefully that will work.
  11. i am trying to load a .gpx file directly from the cache site (geocaching.com). i know i have to be doing something absolutely stupid
  12. i don't either, i have validated my account. the only thing that i am wondering is that maybe gsak does not let you loak *.gpx the first 21 days until you pay
  13. hi all, i activated my premium membership today and am loggen in to geocaching.com. i also downloaded gpak because i thought that downloading the *.gpx file in an instant would be so easy. anyway i log into geocaching.com and try to download a *gpx file. gsak stops me and tells me that i must be a geocaching.com premium member to do this, which i am. any ideas anyone??
  14. if nav 8 is the first mapsource product that you have tried, the unlock process is a wee bit tricky on the navigator 8v software as your instructions are in the garmin file (start) on puter, click garmin, then "mapsource" manual. your questions should be answered there. also if you shoot past a screen and garmin is wanting a seven digit (verification?) code, back up a couple of screens and you will find out it does not apply to you (city nav v8)- only software with 25 digit codes. if perhaps you want to load both topo and navigator on one micro card, check this site out http://home.houston.rr.com/gpsr/#Maps read before trying, he has the correct solution. i have both topo and nav on one card, working perfectly, and am happy. truly the answers are there and not to hard to find. go have a brewski, relax, and try again! my 76csx rocks!
  15. i agree with you both! although changing the cards on this unit is easy, seeing how i can never find my keys, i would probably lose one of these little guys. i'm hoping that maybe eventually 2 gigabyte micro cards will become available , be compatable, and cheap. then we could all have it all.....
  16. i'm new to this game and have finally received my software-garmin topo and city navigator v8. for the folks that have loaded up cards, does it make more sense to put both topo and city nav on the same card for a designated region or should i try to gat as much topo on one card and navigator on other. i'm still waiting on my memory cards to come so i have time to ponder.......thanks!
  17. i got my 76csx last friday and immediately did the updates as they became available. i love the unit and can't seem to put it down. as a techie type, i am always disappointed later when i don't buy all the things in a gadget i want-this time the sirf chip and the card slot plus more, more, more!! as a petite lady i was concerned about the size and feel in my hand. i have had absolutely no problem adapting-this unit absolutely rocks and i would definitely buy it again........before the rebate ends!
  18. the software i ordered this am is already packed and awaiting shipment-definitely available!
  19. me three! i ordered a copy from them a couple of minutes ago! i just got my garmin 76csx and am in dire need of the software. triple thanks!!!
  20. well, first i went out for a brewski-feeling a slight tense. then i came home, put a lock on a city, and restored the map. wow!! you would think that this would be mentioned somewhere in the book-probably is, just too much of a newbie to recognize it. that being said, this unit is great!!!- too many buttons not enough time- menus under menus!!! thanks all, i am feeling much better now!
