  1. It's not that complicated, Here are some instructions and I found them very straight forward. Thanks for that link.. Has to be one of the easiest things to do ever
  2. Well we visited the "Farm" last weekend and was far too busy fixing roads to think about placing a cache anywhere... Maybe next time
  3. I did manage to grab 2 FTF in WEST (centralish) London a few days after they were published which was a bit surprising. I had only been to Richmond a few days before the new one was posted.. Plus am now working nights. And am now going on holiday so the rest of the caches in Richmond will have to wait. Im sure Rodz will be hunting soon again I think he makes it look much busier than what it really is hehe
  4. Wow awesome spot! Would love to be able to try that oneday! Doubt I will ever get a FTF though! I arrive on Thursday and we go to my folks' place on Friday. Yet to see what the damage is. Looks like we will have to hike the 15odd KM from the main road to the house. Not sure if my parents are up for another 30km+ further. If it has flooded badly then it might be easy going along the river although if not then it will be far too overgrown. Zoom in on -33.6809983615, 23.5879105749 (google earth coords) to see where their house is. The cache will be further north of that Could actually do some nice top of peak caches there also. Unfortunately will have to wait until I come back to SA someday! Happy caching!
  5. You know you're addicted to geocaching when... ... you pick up a random teddybear toy thingy and think it would make an awesome TravelBug (and actually do it) ... you email someone asking about info on caches in SA and are more worried about the caches' safety than your own personal safety!
  6. Yeah I have 11 within a mile.. and another 4 showing exactly at a mile. Mostly thanks to rodz!
  7. How far away is the closest cache to your home coordinates. (not placed by yourself incase you have put one on your front door) Mine is 0.2 miles or 360m
  8. Errr yes but I don't think one can change the title of a topic? Unless I was missing something. (been fixed now anyways) Cheers to the mods! Well with the GPS unit I have.. Garmin GPS45 Id look a pratt to anyone.. It has a swivel antenna.. Or maybe I can say its a satellite phone Yep I have used this one as well. Spent ages on a bridge in Regents Park one morning. Searching in between gaps in traffic and muggles.. and snapping away at the water fowl while they were passing But generally when walking to a cache with GPS in hand people to give you a funny look. Again I blame my old GPS unit
  9. arg trust me to make a typo in the topic! Sorry! can a mod please fix it and then delete this post? Cheers Edit by Lactodorum: Happy to oblige
  10. people ask you.. What are you doing? Whats that? (when looking at your GPS) when you are out caching. I find when caching in London people generally just ignore you but while out caching near Cambridge I had a few people/children ask me what the H I was doing while out walking with my GPS. So far Ive been lucky and not been "muggled" while hunting or looking at the goodies of a cache.
  11. Folks have not been to there property but reports from the neighbours indicate the roads are no more.. all washed away so might not even get a chance to get there!!! Nevermind placing a cache What a shame!
  12. Count me in on this please... Sent an email to the old site a few days ago.. I am based in the UK but from SA originally.. Hope to do some caching in the EasternCape in September There is a TB (i think its still there) in PE which was at my one of my local caches just a short while back! Small world!
  13. Not a big issue no.. but can be confusing.... Say for example you have found a TB and then placed it into another cache that same day. If you log the find in the order u found the cache... took the TB.. found the 2nd cache and then placed the TB. It will read as if you places the TB .. found the 2nd cache.. found the TB and then found the 1st TB.
  14. Mods? anyone? Is this in the right forum then?
  15. Yes I think I would need to provide certain waypoints on how to get close. Not sure if it will be viable to make it a traditional multi where you get clues at each point.. As one would have to know where the final location was to plan such a trip. I hope I can even get there as it is quite a trek! Plus the recent rains might have washed all the roads away.. (although this might have cleared the valley of the thick vegitation so would be able to get there a bit easier)
  16. I have always been a bit "tip-toed" when walking in grave yards... That is until one Sunday I had tea and sandwiches at the church in Kew Green (near Kew Gardens, london) and you sat outside watching cricket ontop of the gravestones (tombs). Im not sure you should use a grave as your hidey spot but for clues etc I think its fine
  17. Sorry to be a pain and I hope I am not missing this in the FAQ but... I upgraded my membership via paypal about 19hrs ago. I have received an email from paypal with the S- number but I get an error when copying and pasting this to activate my account. "If you have paid by eCheck, it can take 4-6 days before your payment clears. When we receive a message from PayPal we will notify you that your subscription is ready. This membership does not exist." Am I right in thinking Groundspeak need to 1st activate it from there side also? They mention an email from them? But say it will be within the hour? Is it because it is weekend? Am I just jumping the gun here? Or is everyone out geocaching while I am at work! Lucky so and so's! Apologies for being impatient..
  18. Hi Guys, I am based in the UK at the moment. I am coming "home" for a holiday in September and plan to place a very remote cache. This will be in a nature conservation area (no "real" dangerous animals). You need a permit to enter etc etc. Its in the Kouga Mountains in the Eastern Cape. My parents have some property there and I have found a real interesting spot using google earth. I am guessing it will be a 2-3 day hike to get there and back. Just wondering how far people are willing to go to find a cache? I know it wont be a very well visited cache but would anyone be willing to try even? (I know its hard to say with so little details) Maintenance shouldnt be much of a problem I dont think?? Low visiting number plus ZERO chance of it being geomuggled. Risks would be fire or baboons.. Also any hints and tips on placing a remote cache will be welcome
  19. I am currently using a Garmin 45 and it works.. But can be a little unacurate... Today I had a cache and it was reporting coordinates 150feet away.. It is also a bit slow in picking up a signal and loses it quite easily also. I guess it makes the hunt a bit more exciting
