  1. We are planning to go on our second cruise in March. Does anyone know if any of the major cruise lines do geocaching onboard? Or maybe virtual caches? Thanks in advance for your replies!
  2. This year while we're on the island I'm going to use toy marbles for swag. They are white with three thin stripes of blue, green, yellow, orange, and/or red in them. I'm going for 15 finds. This will include the two caches near NASA and NOAA plus the one on the causeway. I'll post with a final count when we return. We will be on the island from 6/21 thru 6/26. We've been to Chincoteague several times and except for the first time in September 2002, my husband has not really given me time to cache. This year will be different!
  3. It's not a good idea to use pot from an unknown source. How would know if it's been laced with something dangerous until too late?
  4. I would like to find a local geocaching buddy. What's the best way to do it?
  5. Hello from the North Coast of Ohio! I am a married westside Clevelander who just took up geocaching this year. I' m looking for someone, female, to go caching with. Due to a chronic condition I was forced into retirement and I'm not always able to drive. I was just wondering if there is another lady who would like to cache but doesn't want to go alone. Please reply to my email with zuni moon in the subject line. Thank you, Zuni Moon
  6. I used to ride a friend's leopard appy in the nearby Metroparks. Although dogs are allowed in the park, they must be leashed at all times. Some people let their dogs run loose. That never bothered the horse. One day, I looked across the road to see some idiot letting his shepard mix run loose. The dog lay down in the grass near the tree line. It was upwind of us til we moved further up the trail. Suddenly, Halston wanted to come unglued! I realized that was no dog and kept Halston moving up the trail and passed the scent. He knew the difference between coyote and dog! We had sometimes came across feral dogs on trail and he never batted an eye at them!
  7. Know this: You did the right thing! Considering the tragic events of the past week, you may have saved manyyoung lives from being ended in another school shooting, and many more lives from being horribly traumitized by it. Thank you for taking the time to call the police and patiently waiting for them. Not everyone would have done it, most still don't want to get involved! God bless you!
  8. I've been reading past posts for info and intertainment. Today, 10/03/06, while out seeking a microcache I almost step back onto a bird. It didn't make a move as I quietly knelt behind it,and with gloved hands, picked it up. I gently examined it for injury and found nothing. I then released it under a low shrub so it would have some cover. When I got home, I grabbed my bird book. It was a hermit thrush, probably exhausted while migrating through. God speed small friend. Wish I had remembered my camera!
  9. no and no. My husband and I both have close family who are deceased. The house we live in is not an "old family home". However, if someone in either family is having serious health problems we are usually given a "heads up" by late family. If it's his family, a photo or picture will fall off the wall without the string/wire breaking or nail coming out. If it's my side, I will smell scents that I associate with either my maternal grandmother or my father. Also, when we first moved in here, our cat watch something we couldn't see come down the stairs, pass in front of us through the living room and into the dining room. No raised hackles or growling. Have no idea who/what that was!
  10. That may be true but people are just dying to get in!
  11. I was all set to go caching late this morning. It was a bit drizzly but not enough to deter me. I got in the van and wouldn't you know the battery was dead? NUTS!!! I called Long Arm (hubby) just to refresh me on how to use the battery charger. I go back in the house to get the charger. When I come out, its no longer drizzling. Its pouring! CRUD!!! I get the charger hooked up. Now I have to wait a few hours for it to do its thang. Of course, when I came in to wait, the rain stopped and the sun is shining. As the comic strips would say,"*$^&@#*$%@$#&%@#$&*!!!!!"
  12. I just started this year. Bought my gps on Ebay. Had a hard time figuring out how to operate it. I took it with us on vacation to the pony islands. I thought I could work it out on the way east. No such luck. Due to a chronic illness, my reading comprehension isn't what it used to be. And I have a memory like a steel sieve! Anyway, long story shortened, Long Arm ( hubby) got it to work and then showed me how. I made my first two finds on the human populated island. There are four caches there total. None on the other. I get him to go with when I can but he usually begs off.
  13. It never occured to me to put Ammo in an Ammo Can! The next thing you're gonna tell me is that you can put Food in a Lock-N-Lock... but I know better. Both Food and Ammunition are not allowed in caches! It never occured to me to put Ammo in an Ammo Can! The next thing you're gonna tell me is that you can put Food in a Lock-N-Lock... but I know better. Both Food and Ammunition are not allowed in caches! Of course not! It makes the rounds smell like onions when they're fired!
  14. Not so far, but a lost dog found me and I was able to reunite her with her owners. She was wearing her pink collar with I.D. and vet/rabies tag.
  15. Next time you go caching and know water will be involved try this trick I learned from my stepson. Save several empty, rinsed out, recapped milk jugs. Tie them to handle bars, the seat, where ever you can that's out of your way to still be able to ride. Experiment with the jugs and bike to find out how many the bike needs to make it bouyant. Now, should you lose your footing or litereally get in over you head, your bike will not sink or worse, drag you under.
  16. You folks are making me wish I lived near you. Then I maybe I could bring along my late father's Greener Martini shotgun! FYI use large potatoes for sharpshooters to hit.
  17. Here ya go... Papa Smurf's Manhood After viewing the photo, are you sure those aren't just a souvenier from Blue Balls, Pa.? You know, that place over near Intercourse and Bird in Hand, Pa.?
  18. While hunting two micros in the same small urban park, I spotted a canine at the edge of a thicket about 10 yards from me. At first I thought she was a coyote! She took off to the thicket but appeared about 20 minutes later near the thicket walking near a man. This time I could hear the jingle of tags and saw her pink collar. I thought he was the owner. I had to give up the first cache as a DNF after a half hour of fruitless effort. While walking toward the second micro, she came up to me to make friends then trotted off a minute later. I found the second micro without too much trouble. While I was writing in the log, she came up to me again. I got her to sit and found a phone number to call and her name on one of the tags. "Star" and her owner were reunited minutes later. Happy Ending!
  19. I recently bought a warranted eagle explorer gps unit. I took it outside to initialize or cold start. got nowhere. There may be toomany trees or houses. unit is dgps ready. will that help?
