  1. I have spent several hour searching for the right option importing gpx file as POI to Garmin Oregon and as POI with proximity alert to Car Nuvi. Gpx file is a 200 kB file of historical objects and locations. Please give advice! Thanks! Devices I have: handheld Oregon 550, Nuvi 1340. PC Windows 7. When trying to open gpx with Map Source there an error File history.gpx "couldn't be imported" I found also interesting but from 2008 and possibly is outdated: http://www.gpsinformation.org/penrod/poiloader/poiloader.html The site which is rather confusing and links to URL which doesn't work. Unfoertunately I couldn't get any help from here :-( http://garminoregon.wikispaces.com/Waypoints+and+POIs I'm not sure if it the one I need after all other findings: http://www.garmin.com/us/maps/poiloader Plus several methods with end with imported track instead of POI layer.
  2. Thanks. Over years and under heavy work burden I still haven't understood and can't imagine my luck. :-) Oregon has some 700-800MB internal memory where also are some maps. I recall there was 1000 tracks and 10000 waypoint limit? Is it correct? Then each day starting new track will last with 5 sec intervals 10000x5=50000 sec= 13.8 hours. How much space requires such one day log? And what means auto archiving? Can it be set to save to SD card? Thanks!
  3. How long tracks and how many days can be logged with Oregon 550? I'm going to 10 days trip driving by car and walking and would like to save all 10 days track log for later photo geo tagging with PC. While I can take care that the batteries will last, during this 10 days I can't access PC, while there is only Android, which I think can't connect with Garmin Oegon 550 Any experiences how space hungry is Oregon track logging? What are Oregon limits? Track length or available memory? Total estimated during 10 days max 1000 km by car and max 100 km by foot Many stops for sightseeing or having rest pauses to have eat. Toal time logging 150 hours PS I tried to create account at http://garminoregon.wikispaces.com/ But it failed and I can't post there any questions.
  4. On latest years I haven't been much engaged with radio waves. But I believe there may be 2 possible problems, which I don't feel competent and therefore asked your experiences. 1. The GPS receiver RF oscillator radiance emission, which may disturb nearby devices 2. Loss of satellie transmitter field strength, if several GPS receiver antennas are too close to each other.
  5. I plan to test 5 different units of MKT II, Venus and Sirf III Chipset. To avoid disturbances, is there any experiences, how far from each other one should keep different units? What is the safe distance between GPS receivers? Thanks!
  6. Thanks for the idea, but I believe it's too late this time, as certainly this forum users are experienced with Oregon 550 as well. Thanks for the hint of using protective case. This bulky case you introduced, looks like a mountain climber appliance. Usually I use GPS on photo trips into local forests and bogs for track logging and occasionally also for navigation. As I move with photo equipment which is much more sensitive to damage, extra protection for GPS doesn't feel reasonable. A dedicated jacket pocket should be enough, except if it appears that Oregon doesn't support screen locking against occasional contacts :-( But thanks for suggestion.
  7. Yes, the battery Save is "ON". To keep device without occasionally touching screen is tricky. Most often I keep it in jacket pocket for quick access. When screen is locked I hear frequent beeping from pocket - "Screen is locked. Tap the Power key to unlock" Rather annoying in surrounding silence of forests, not to mention waste of battery. I just wonder, if these controls are missing, is it a firmware version 6.0 flaw?
  8. Hello After several attempts I tend to believe that these essential functions are not controllable. Oregon 6.0 last official firmware doesn't seem to have functioning power save nor sound alerts controls. 1. When using power button for screen locking, I can't figure out how to lock screen so that with each screen touch unit wouldn't switch screen on with message "Screen is locked. Tap the Power key to unlock" As a result GPS is constantly in contact with backpack pouch fabric and peeping info screen on eating batteries. Normally after locking from power button unit screen should go on only from the same power button, instead of screen touch and peeping alert. 2. Is there a way to switch off peeping alerts, also when satellite connection is lost or whatever other alerts? I have checked all menus but somehow have missed these options if these exist. Some assistance with device would be most appreciated. Thanks.

Upgraded device to 6.0. That's the last version according to web updater. Thanks!
  10. Thanks for replies. Unfortunately the Oregon 300 has gone 18 month ago ... probably else I hadn't posted here at all :-) But today I have a folder full of gpx tracks copied from my Oregon 300 before departure - something what I can't repeat with my new Oregon 550 any more. I remember the process of selecting the track, when the start and end point were often close to each other, there was an option to move cursor over the track point and then the point time was displayed, that's how I separated overlapping the start and end points. It was 2 years ago and may be that I don't remember correctly and this track part selection was on the earlier Garmin eTrex Legend HCx? But in other hand I can't imagine that there were any other chance except direct map editing in device, how I could do my Oregon 300 gpx folder onto my PC full of tracks. With Oregon 550 I have saved only 1 track, because the 550 unit IMO isn't capable to save partial track. May it be that this function depends on map loaded into unit? Because 2 years ago I different, older map versions. Below is the track header from from one of my Oregon 300 gpx files - looks like firmware version 1.1? Anyone has this Firmware version? xmlns="http://www.topografix.com/GPX/1/1"'>http://www.topografix.com/GPX/1/1" xmlns:gpxx="http://www.garmin.com/xmlschemas/GpxExtensions/v3"'>http://www.garmin.com/xmlschemas/GpxExtensions/v3" xmlns:gpxtpx="http://www.garmin.com/xmlschemas/TrackPointExtension/v1"'>http://www.garmin.com/xmlschemas/TrackPointExtension/v1" creator="Oregon 300" version="1.1" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.topografix.com/GPX/1/1 http://www.topografix.com/GPX/1/1/gpx.xsd http://www.garmin.com/xmlschemas/GpxExtensions/v3 http://www.garmin.com/xmlschemas/GpxExtensionsv3.xsd http://www.garmin.com/xmlschemas/TrackPointExtension/v1 http://www.garmin.com/xmlschemas/TrackPointExtensionv1.xsd"><metadata><link href="http://www.garmin.com"><text>Garmin International</text></link><time>2011-08-22T12:59:09Z</time></metadata><trk><name> Unfortunately Oregon 550 save portion of track function is not usable IMO. For example now when trying to save current track, the following action on 550: Track Manager Current track Save Portion Select the first Track Segment to Save and there are 2 choices displayed on screen: 111m 00:00 FEB 18 17:15 9.9km 05:14 FEB 18 17:18 exactly the same repeats in Select thye Last track segment to save The actual current test track is now 10 km long, driven by car in 50 minutes, with stop in the shop, track displays correctly on Oregon display but these save portion numeric option are not understandable. And this doesn't make much of sense to me, when I'm trying to find the start point but not any segment ... Oregon 550 is: Software version 4.40 GPS Software version 4.52 GPX file header from Oregon 550 <?xml version="1.0"?><gpx version="1.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns="http://www.topografix.com/GPX/1/0"'>http://www.topografix.com/GPX/1/0" xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.topografix.com/GPX/1/0 http://www.topografix.com/GPX/1/0/gpx.xsd"
  11. Hello I use GPS mostly for track recording and photo geo tagging. Lately I upgraded from Oregon 300 to 550 and since that I lost the option to save partial track from the map. With Oregon 300 I used to view the track on the Topographic map and select from the map exact starting and endpoints and then to save the selected part of the track. With Oregon there exists an option "Save portion of Current Track Portion" followed by the menu "Select the first Track Segment to Save" ... in numeric time, which doesn't tell much of the actual point in the map. Can anyone confirm, that this partial track selection on the map is missing in 550? To me it feels a downgrade, if that really is true. :-( How to benefit of this Oregon 550 Partial track selection menu? Thanks for help.
