  1. Yes, we're hoping to have their home in the woods in place by next weekend. We're still deciding on how to build their home...It will be an original design, that's for sure...If you've visited "The Horsetrail Bunker", it'll definitely be a find, at least in size and location.
  2. Yes, We're sending out all seven of Snow White's dwarfs, since she left them for the prince. They are going out on their own vacations, hoping to travel the U.S. going south to DisneyWorld, then over to DisneyLand and back home, which is going to be in the woods here in central PA. After that we want to post a scrapbook of their travels, before we send them on their next mission. We don't want them to be sitting around, so we're hoping people will post photos with notes to accomplish this. Originally, we were just going to have them travel to TB Hotels, but we don't think they'll be able to see as much along the way. Does this idea sound like a decent one???
  3. We are in the beginning process of placing about 8 TB's over the next few weeks through out the area. Is there a place to find out where there are TB Hotels, so we can use them as destinations to meet up throughout their travels? All of the TB's will be related in one form or another, so we would like to see how many times we can have them meet up over time. Does anybody think that doing this will work out over time? Input is greatly appreciated...shortyroach
  4. WOW, I only wish that we've been as lucky as most of you have been...I have 8 TB's in circulation, although I do have one that is always moving and 1 that has finally appeared since it was placed...The other 6 that are out are still in the hands of cachers since being removed from the original placement last summer and fall. Talking about frustration among some players when you go through the expense of putting them out!?! We've actually thought about not purchasing anymore until the other ones resurface, but we just purchased 8 more and we hope the same problem doesn't happen again...Ziggy Stardust
  5. I know that this has probably been brought up at some point in time, but I couldn't find it using the search! What I want to know about multi-caches...How many stages in a multi-cache and the distance between stages is too long? Along with that, should most of the stages be micro? mini? standard? or virtual? The reason I'm asking this part is that we were thinking of doing a multi-cache with the final cache being of normal size if not slightly larger and for it to be a "spawn" type cache, where it is filled with a bunch of mini caches for cachers to hide themselves...We haven't completed the research on doing this, but input would be helpful...
  6. I know there are a few of us in the Blair County area, in which I know there have been a few new additions that are planning to start this spring. I'm not sure on how far anyone is willing to drive, but I would be willing to show up at a picnic when it warms up...Too many kids for us to do it sooner. Although, we will be at the Lake Raystown Resort campground during the Memorial Day weekend if anyone would be interested in having one there...Ziggy Stardust
  7. There are 3 caches in Bedford County, one in Shawnee State Park and 2 near Blue Knob...There are a ton in Somerset and a few in Blair & Cambria counties...I'm sure there will most likely be a few more before the end of spring too!!!
  8. I have recently found a nice container for doing multi-cache stages, which everyone will be able to see in a new "Spawn" type cache that we will be placing within the next week or two. These capsules are 6 inches long and roughly 1 1/2" in diameter...It's original purpose is for hiding your keys for a boat, but it's interior diameter is slightly over an inch and it's over 3 inches long, plus it has a nice nylon rope on it for hanging it in trees if desired. Since it does have more space than the normal 35mm film cannister, this makes a perfect mini-cache too!!! I found these capsules in some of the $1 stores and the surplus stores, so the price is very reasonable. Hope this gives some people more ideas than the norm...
  9. Discount cards, gift certificates or anything like that is ok with me. I've left lottery tickets (real & fake) in caches. I'm not sure, but I don't think anyone finding them complains. Fake lottery tickets are funny to put in them, although some of the people who find them don't get the joke as easily as others. Just remember that everything is fun until someone gets hurt, especially if it's you.
  10. Although it might seem that we are new to geocaching, we are not. This summer we just decided to do alot more without the people we were with last year. This whole situation has been a painful look at how some people would rather criticize things about others in public, instead of just contacting them. This cache has since been removed, although there are a few cachers who have taken it upon themselves to make sure that it will not be forgotten. I will also like to state that if the NSS want their caves to be hidden, then they shouldn't advertise them on websites. They should also understand that if they would like for people to donate money to support these locations, they need to have a more optimistic outlook on the people visiting. I feel that all natural areas need to be protected, but shutting off these areas to all of the public is not the answer. 99% of all cachers take pride and consideration in placing their caches, this includes making sure they are not destroying or in anyway hurting the area of the site. The original cache for this location was sitting on the mud inside the cave, not even touching a rock. After the cache was retrieved by a board member for the cave, who is also a cacher, the cache was changed to a virtual one. The only thing required to get credit for the cache was a photo standing in front of the cave. Even this was decided to be forbidden by the cave manager. To this date, we can't figure out why this is still a problem. They state that geocachers are vandals and should not be visiting and destroying their site. We don't think that geocachers should be characterized in such a poor manner. This cave as well as others that the NSS and other cavers frequent are being destroyed more by their visits, since they actually go inside the caves and crawl, climb and repel their way thorugh them. Don't they think that pounding metal clamps and footholds into the rock sides, ceilings and floors are causing more damage to the cave than a few people walking into the first few feet to retrieve a plastic container sitting on the floor? I really wonder if they are worried more about us destroying the area or if their worried that we'll see how much they are destroying them. I realize that we should have asked permission to use this site, but since we read the rules of the cave that are posted, we didn't think we were breaking any of them. Next time we will be a bit more tactful when using a place like this for a cache site. The Buzzard's
