  1. Currently reading Clancy's Changing of the Guard (about 70 pages through, so far pretty good, definitely not two stars like the reviewer suggests), and there was referance to message groups, as one of the characters logs on to his fencing forum, and the "trolls," most speciafically. Just wanted to share
  2. I have seen people, usually people very new or very casual about the game (ex: 30 finds over 2 years) log something about maintance as a find. I'm sure is was on accident, and I'm not an Internet wiz, but its not that hard to understand the site.
  3. Same with us forthis cache. Its quite ironic, as its only 3.8 miles from the previously talked about Chamber of Secrets.
  4. That made me close my right eye, looking at my monitor. I feel kinda stupid. Anyways, I can only think of one cache I've done by the numbers, and that was kinda-sorta (it was a cache to do in the parking area, kind of a prelude to the "real"). I found it while my dad was getting all the stuff out of the car. Maybe there's more....
  5. Seeing as it rains three or four times a year in SoCal (its only a slight exaggeration), our single-digit benchmark count seems doubly sad.....we haven't even took the time to log any of them.
  6. Not really a newbie, but..... My thoughts? I think that geocaching is a flourishing game, as it reaches into communities quite literally throughout the inhabited world. On the bottom of the Groundspeak forums page, I have never seen the same person as the newest member. There will probably be at LEAST five or six logs posted the minute that I post this post, and, most likely, a few caches will be found. Its Christmastime, and probably a few hundred, if not a few thousand, will unwrap a GPS Thursday morning. My point, its growing at an incredible rate, and with good reason, too.
  7. Will there be any special themed topics or will it just be like normal with a lot of people? I'm looking forward to it.
  8. Do you see this pimple? Do you see this pimple? I look like Rudolph....except with a fingernail...sniff....sniff.............
  9. I think we've requested that all of our bugs (all three of them) be traveling on the ground, only. We live in California & had a bug destined for a short little journey to Utah & then I would probably log on the cache page that it had to come back to complete the journey. It now lies in Maine.
  10. I go to school, do my homework, read books, type absolute gibberish into a little box that sits under the words "Fast Reply." We usually go geocaching Saturday morning, 8-12, somewhere 'round there...
  11. I wear my hoodie about every day. Somehow I always manage to just have one, as others are either stained, lost, whatever. A geocaching hoodie is something I'd definitely want.
  12. virtual in a highly poulated area, traditional otherwise
  13. I completely agree with one particular statement: "the forums are not geocaching." How so? More and more posts are off-topic (who doesn't want to have a bazillion posts under their username?), and tons of people want a section that is completely free of geocaching. (I'm not trying to support or undermine this in any way) If we woke up tommorrow and the forums were gone, yes, we'd all feel very sad and dreadfully bored, but geocaching in itself would be like a fort with a pebble thrown at it. (well, lots of newbies would be confused) The forums are a very good thing. Oh, yeah, does anyone say that the police force is destroying America? How is it even possible that moderators can destroy a forum? They may tick off a few, but they aren't destructive. Actually, their job is to bring peace. Anyways, BrianSnat, your post was brilliant, and I think its a good step to peace in the forums. Just as a footnote, this is the largest forum I have ever seen. Various sport teams forums that I've viewed have about as many posts as the Travel Bug Section alone, around 10,000. Its incredible the number of people that have 100-500 posts, my guess is a few hundred. There's also a pretty large amount of people in the thousands.
  14. Sorry if somebody said this...Me&Bucky is at 1000/1000. I'm at 137/around 10
  15. I've always been interested in getting a sig item, like a little card, but we probably never will. Some interesting sig items in my area: -mini sewing kit -pez dispenser -fake money These all went with the people's usernames
  16. We've never really pulled off a good disguise. You do feel like an A-1 idiot you get the look like "What are those people doing back there?"
  17. There's a list of upcoming event caches on the home page. Hope that helps
  18. Our bug started out in Florida (we placed it on vacation), and its goal is to make it back to Southern California, into one of our caches. It has made great progress, and has been in California for the past few months.....but then WanderBoy found it in his first cache. He has found about fifteen caches since and has not replaced my bug. I haven't e-mailed him (yet) & I don't really know what to do. Maybe he just doesn't know how the whole Travel Bug thing works?....Anyways, I'm seeking advice from more seasoned members to the TB game. Thank you in advance
  19. I'm a kid. -I really participate. -I am very interested in finding "the treasure." -I'm not very skilled at using the GPSr. I recently learned how to enter coords & can now do that by myself. On the trail, I almost never hold the GPS, by chioce. -Dad points out the right way to go. -I don't have a personal acount because I have found (or I was there at) all but about ten of our 130something finds. I don't have a desire to have one. -Yes, I enjoy and almost always plan caching trips, or, the caches, my dad dutifully works on the order in which we will be doing them. -Once I have a car. -No Hope I helped
  20. This is pretty spread out. Whoops. Already posted.
  21. I'd like to get to 300 posts by the end of the year and get the top poster of the day a few times. It'll probably on one of those slow, crawling weekdays. I'm working on my first goal right now.
  22. Bucky&Me's stats are very impressive. More than 1,000 finds in both benchmarks & geocaching! I'll say that they're tops, unless someone else wants to claim it.
  23. As far as I can recall, 0%. Although the caching community is growing at a tremendous rate, 15,000 people isn't a whole lot.
  24. Although this is somewhat off topic: RocketMan, I am sincerely sorry for holding your bug Pass the Puck for an extended (to say the least) period of time.
  25. Who has the most benchmark finds?
