  1. Hi, thanks for all the suggestions. I've tried everything. I don't see it on the map, or listed anywhere. It must be old or something. The place I found it seemed deliberately hidden, wedged under a stair descending down to the falls. Anything can happen during a flood, but it would take some serious water to get it up to the height of the stair. I guess it's not really a big deal. It's just too bad it got soaked. Thanks again for all the help.
  2. I was out at a state park this weekend and happened across a cache on accident. The cache has apparently been flooded, the log is ruined. I thought I would look it up and let the owner know, but I can't figure out how to find it online. There are 242 pages of caches for the nearest zipcode. I have the code from the log, and I think the cache name is "Greeter Falls". How do I find it online?
  3. oops, nevermind, I just found it. thanks, there's so much to learn!
  4. Is there a link for downloading MapSource then? I''ve been all over the Garmin site and I'm missing it somehow.
  5. So, another question then. I can just buy the Topo product without having another Mapsource product, right? Or is Topo just an add-on to the Mapsource application?
  6. Ahhhh, ok. Thanks. Yeah, I don't have any Mapsource products yet, so I'm not clear on how it all works.
  7. I was checking out the Topo app at a friend's house and it looked like there was no way to transfer maps to a GPSr via USB. I only saw options for serial connections. The version was 3.02 I think, so I'm thinking there must be a newer version or something.
  8. Thanks for the replies! I like the steel plate idea, but I'm not too hot on the elevated pole idea, unless it's a flexi-pole of some sort. My external-frame pack already catches on low rock formations and tree branches. I'd hate to see how it would handles another 13 inches of height. But I guess some sort of spring-pole might work. Thanks for the help, I'll look in to this.
  9. Have any of you guys tried using an external antenna with your receiver for backpacking? My GPSr (60CS) loses connection pretty easily under tree cover. I'd say it is certainly worth the cost of a good antenna if it makes a big difference in reception under tree cover. I really like keeping tracks so I can share topo maps with friends and have the trail reflected on the map. But it's hard under heavy cover. In fact, basically impossible. I was thinking I could put the antenna on top of the pack, maybe even attach it to the top of the frame, and run the cable down the shoulder strap or something. I'd hate to waste the time and money rigging this up if it doesn't make a big difference though. I see some +28 dB antennas, and some +55 dB antennas. Is there a big difference? I know with coax amplifiers it's is very easy to over-amplify the signal, is that an issue with a GPSr?
  10. This is kind of frustrating. I just bought a GPSr this week, hoping to use it for a trip I have coming up in July. Not only is the latest version delayed until potentially after my trip, I can't even find old versions of the software. Sort of reduces the usefulness of the device for a while.
