  1. Perhaps "Free Grease Places" would be a good category on Waymarking.com? Roy
  2. Lowrance IFinder H2O for caching, Eagle Intellimap 320 for fishing/boating.
  3. Tosmiths other listing at http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...09-c25af3c49245 seems to be directed to the grand opening of an REI store. Am I wrong? Find the cache and enter to win prizes. Seems to be similar to the cache mentioned above, an advert for REI. Of course I could be wrong. Roy
  4. Have the coins started shipping? Roy
  5. My wife and daughter bought me a little Hiker Marshmallow Christmas Ornament and made a little GPS and Fanny Back out of Femo Dough. There you have it. RoyGPA
  6. I vote yes. I can see two llamas from my back door. I could probably log the find without leaving my house.
  7. I have both the 6.3 topo and 6.2. The only difference I can see is the addition of the topo lines which is nice to have. If you are buying it for the extra POI's, I wouldn't bother, as many are in the wrong place... by up to a mile.
  8. Just paypaled for 1, meant to hit 2... but it went through for one. DOH! RoyGPA
  9. I've had a Lowrance Ifinder H2O for just about a year. I love it. I would agree with most of what Brian says except the part about it being "somewhat unattractive", but that's subjective anyway. Nice review Brian... Thanks. Roy
  10. I saw the subject line and thought to myself... I wonder if there is a documented Phobia of puzzles. The best I could come up with was Atychiphobia or fear of failure? Or maybe its Arithmophobia fear of numbers? I have to admit that I only go after puzzles caches when my wife and daughter are with me. They both love puzzles of any kind and my son and I don't. I think their brains have developed differently than mine. Roy
  11. I'm in for 3 coins. Just did the paypal deal a couple minutes ago. RoyGPa
  12. Lowrance Ifinder H20. I works well for geocaching and is compatible with the Eagle Intellimap 320 in my boat. Roy
  13. I have a Lowrance Ifinder H20 and can do exactly what you are asking with ExpertGPS. When you have a .LOC or GPX file that you want to save go to File, Export and it opens a window that you can save the file making sure I use the right extension for the H20... a .usr file. Then I plug in my SD card reader and copy the file to the SD card like you would copy any other file to another drive. It has options for Maptech and Mapsource files too. In ExpertGPS Version 1.95vb I go to GPS, Send to gps and then it allows me to save the file again... as a .usr file. For other GPS units, I think version 1.95vb is similar to the first method of saving files to SD cards. I hope this helps, if not let me know. Roy
  14. Took nothing left nothing signed log
  15. A group of people where I work do the "Walk for Life" that benefits the American Cancer Society. They sell the Livestrong bracelets to family, friends and co-workers. I buy them by the bag and we put them in caches one or two at a time. My wife who goes back to cache logs where we've left the bracelets says that they are the most popular items of ours that people take. Those and Saddam's most wanted cards. I'm not sure why exactly why they are still so popular. Perhaps Geocaching.com Most Wanted Cards?? Oh never mind. I’d buy bracelets from Geocaching.com. Roy
  16. I have a Lowrance Ifinder H20, and with the exception of how tight the batteries are to get in and out, I love it. I did have an issue with the Mapcreate Card reader too, but they helped me fix that right away. They are much faster fixing issues when you call them. Some people believe that Lowrance is a new company, but Lowrance was create by Carl Lowrance in 1957 as a fishing sonar producer. They have been producing navigational equipment, mostly used by recreational fishermen since 1988. (IE Loran C.) I think they came out with their first GPS in 1993, but it was a big ole console unit. It was the year after I spent a grand on a Loran C unit. Doh! They introduced their first handheld, sub $200 GPS'r in 1996. I have been using their equipment if you include sonar units for about 20 years. I think their units are intuitive to people who spend time using fishfinders, but maybe not intuitive to those who don't. It's just my opinion, but I wouldn't rate them as the equivalent to an Edsel. The company is not as big as Garmin or Magellan and geocachers who use Lowrance units are few and far between, but their equipment is good in my book. I would buy another in a minute. All that said when my friends ask what they should buy, I say a Garmin Etrex Legend. Why you might ask? Because I won't always be there when they have problems or questions and need help, but zillions of Geocachers here at Geocaching.com who own Legends will. One of the people that I suggested buy a Legend wishes he would have bought an Ifinder. I can't win for losing. Another guy that I suggested the Legend to, will most likely buy a Magellan Meridian Color unit Go figure. Roy
  17. I have an Ifinder H20 and from what I can tell it differs from the Hunt version in the icons you can place on the screen and I believe the Hunt has a barometer. I think the Hunt version will function similar to my H20. I have had the H20 since October and I love it. I have used Lowrance/Eagle products since the mid 1980s and whenever I have had problems, Lowrance solved them right away. I received Mapcreate 6.3 Topo for Christmas and had to upgrade the firmware that came with the cardreader. After that... no problems. No doubt about it... Garmins and Magellans are more popular than Lowrance, in fact when a friend asks me for a recommendation I suggest Garmin simply because it will be easier for them to get help in places like Geocaching.com. If you have any specific questions, email me. Roy
  18. I have had an Ifinder H20 since October 2004, and I love it. I was given Mapcreate 6.3 Topo for Christmas and after updating the firmware in the LEI reader, I have had no problems. Roy
  19. I have an extra unactivated PA geocoin that I could swap for a coin from another state. email me. Roy
  20. Lee sorry about the loss of your Ifinder. Glad you only were bruised. I have an Ifinder H20, I bought it because of the nice things Lee said about it, plus the fact that I have owned other Lowrance/Eagle equipment over the past 20 year. I have an eagle GPS'r on my boat and I can interchange cards back and forth between these two units. About the only thing I don't like about it is that it can be difficult to get the batteries in and out because of the over use of epoxy around the battery contacts to keep the thing waterproof. Lowrance suggested using a plastic screw driver shaped implement to remove batteries. I did them one better and tied a piece of fairly heavy string in a loop and put the batteries into the loop before installing them string and all. When I want the batteries out, I yank on the string and out come the batteries flying across the room. I'd but another one in a minute since I am familiar with Lowrance products. If I was a complete newbie to GPS'r and Geocaching, I have to admit that I would buy a Garmin legend. Everybody here says they are great and I did suggest that a friend buy one and he likes it so far. Roy
  21. I didn't try to print anything when I had the trial version, in fact I didn't bother to learn how to use the program until I had one day left in the trial period. DOH! In that one day I found out what the program can do and purchased it the next. I've printed a couple topo maps and a couple overhead maps since I purchased it and have not had the problem you are talking about. Perhaps you could e-mail the experts at ExpertGPS? Roy
  22. My family and I visted 5 caches here in Southwestern, PA yesterday and found most of them jammed packed with advertising. It's a piece of paper about 3.5 inches by 8.5 inches with a poem title "IF" by Rudyard Kipling on one side and the other has an advertisement to get a deck washed for $84.99. It includes a business card with a phone number. It wasn't like there were a couple of them, but some had about 50 or 60 copies. Well I am rather new to Geocaching, but I have to believe that this sort of thing is frowned upon. Am I right? We had my 14 year old son with us and he complained about it for about 2 hours. He likes to complain about everything at his age. It's probably been covered before, but my search didn't turn up any hits. Thanks. Roy
  23. I'd like yo buy a feww too. Roy
