  1. I don't understand the "premium members only" caches... It's like a bunch of kids with a secret club or something... I signed up, but I think it should be free...
  2. I have alot of tats, a whole lot, but none for geocaching yet... I'm not opposed to it at all, I think it's a great tribute to it! I just have to see if I stick with it for a while... maybe in another year or two there's some really nice work posted so far, I hope more people post theirs! One of my favorite topics so far!
  3. My first name is Bo, and I'm really into prophecies, the unexplained, the unknown, etc... I tried using "Mountain Man", (i'm from WV and an outdoor enthusiast, I also have a survivalism page on FB under Mountain Man Preppers) but it was already being used on here... Good topic!
  4. I'm new to caching too, I just started a month ago and couldn't find my first three in a row... after I read through previous logs on nearby caches I went after the ones that I knew were recently found and still there.. two of my first three were actually missing, the third I just went back and found tonight, after I got more experience about what to look for.. Don't get discouraged, DNF's are gonna happen alot... Good Luck and Happy Caching!!
  5. I think it's a good idea for the change... Plenty of places in my area would make great cache sites that someone decided to stick a GR micro in, but less than 100 yards away (as the crow flies)there's a sweet scenic overlook or a spot in the woods... It's mainly all hills and valleys here, and GR caches kind of hurt alot of quick hikes... I understand though that it would saturate parking lots and what not so I doubt it would change for that reason...
  6. I must be really lucky, the reviewer I had published my last cache within a few hours!!
  7. I"m not familiar with the cache you're describe but I'm guessing that after you've found it the CO has some sort of trophy image that you can put on your profile page. Most likely what you need to do is a cut-n-paste of the HTML codes used to display the image from the page where it's displayed onto the page which displays your profile. The page that has the geo trophies allows to select a trophy, click on a button (I can't read the language) and it will generate the HTML code on the form. Depending on what type of computer you're using, you can "copy" the text (using Control-C on a PC). That text is now available to past somewhere else. After confirming that you're logged into to the geocaching.com site go to the "edit profile details page" using this link: http://www.geocaching.com/account/editprofiledetails.aspx Type in some text such as: "My Geo Trophies" and hit enter a couple time to add a blank line. Then type Control-V (hold down the CTRL key and type V). That will paste the HTML code into your profile details. Click on the "Save Changes" button and you're done. You can go back to the page as often as possible to add more trophies or other text to the page. I've read your tips on computer stuff a few times on here now and just gotta say I'm in awe of your tech genius I add these threads to my watch list just in case I need your expertise later on...
  8. Thanks!! still figuring outsome of the lingo, I guess Now... Back to the killer caches!!
  9. These are all awesome, but I have one question... What in the world does "Bump" mean???
  10. Kinda weird, I made a post about this "M" game and another cache based game a week or so ago to see if anyone played(just to see what's out there) and a moderator removed it with the quickness... The way I see this idea, if you don't like GR games, don't play... just like if you don't like nanos, don't look for them. It's not like you'll go out there and "SURPRISE, it's a barcode!!" I wouldn't go after them, but to each their own, right?
  11. This might be a nitpick but I saw what I would consider to be a rather significant omission. There article contains the following phrases: "Geocaches (cache for short) can be a wide range of containers hidden in any spot a geocacher (someone who looks for geocaches) deems worthy. " and "They can be any size, any shape and can literally be hidden anywhere all over the world-it is all up to the person doing the hiding." yet, there is no mention in the article anywhere about private property, ensuring that adequate permission has been obtained, or the guideline which prohibits placing a "vacation cache". There also is no mention that physical elements of a cache must be at least 528' apart. In other words, geocachers can *not* hide a cache anywhere they deem worthy or hidden anywhere in the world. Then, when describing how geocachers can be trickey, the article states. "One example would be a bolt screw on a stop sign, " Although caches hidden in stop signs can be somewhat common, the addition of a bolt could technically be considered a violation of tampering with traffic control device laws, and the article doesn't mention anything about about obeying all laws when placing a cache either. For the most part, there is a lot of good factual information. There are also a few things that are just not correct however, but for the most part only a geocacher reading the article would notice. For example, the section on mulit-caches is not entirely accurate and one part is incorrect. The article states: "What that means is, to find the log, you have to go to the posted coordinates to find a cache that has a different set of coordinates inside of it that directs you to the cache with the log. Sometimes it can be 10 caches you have to find before you find the one with the log. MOST of the time it's a lot fewer like two or three stages. To prevent this from getting out of hand, Groundspeak made it a rule that the caches have to be within so many feet of each other. This was to basically prevent a person from having to travel all over a city or land mass looking for an actual cache. : The first, or any subsequent stages of a mult-cache, do not have to be "caches". It is quite common for stages to be "answers to questions" where one most obtain information off a sign, or some other object. Groundspeak does *not* limit the distance between stages nor the distance from the first to the last stage for a multi cache. In fact, there are multi caches which cover hundreds of miles and cross state and country boundaries. There is, however, a guideline for *unknown/mystery" caches which indicates that the actual location of the cache should be within 2 miles of the published coordinates. In his defense, he did say rather plainly that there's more articles to come... give the man a lil' time to explain the details The whole point is to get people to come to this site and get started, if he throws in a link to the site they can read the fine print efore they start.. I read pretty much every little rule and detail before I went after my first cache(or placed my caches) just to be sure I knew what I was looking for and had at least textbook knowledge of what to expect!
  12. I saw this on NBC Nightly News last night.. Makes me want to plan a "visit" to see my uncles down in NM with a little side trip!! After 4 years of hiding, I think the treasure is ready for me to find it!!
  13. I hit up the local dollar store and for $5 I had over 30 little toys to use for swag, like cars, dinosaurs, frogs, lizards and little squirty fish... and the biggest retail store on earth(WM) has a rain poncho for 88 cents, so I grabbed a couple of those too for bigger caches...
  14. Probably could've shared your story in the amount of time it took to write all that ^^^ There's one on every thread I am new to this, I found my first cache less than three weeks ago under a light post skirt... I know I looked crazy screaming and jumping around in the parking lot of a cancer center but I coudn't help it I already can't remember where I heard about geocaching but I've been obsessed with it ever since.. I think hiding them is almost as much fun as finding them! Even got a "favorite" from the FTF on my first hide, that was a big boost of confidence... Good Luck and Happy Caching!
  15. Who's that CO - Mr. Grinch?? I love it when people find my caches! word
  16. I don't do puzzles, and haven't hidden any. If I did I wouldn't want someone asking other cachers how to solve it, I would want them to ask me. It's probably very best that you wouldn't publish any puzzles, then. Which is really kind sad. If someone did enjoy creating puzzles, and came up with some creative ideas for other to enjoy, it's too bad that there are some people that don't respect cache owners enough that they'll just ask for the solution from someone else instead of letting the cache owner decide how much information to provide. If that leads to a cache owner to stop creating new puzzles it spoils the fun for someone that also enjoys puzzle and won't resort to just asking for a solution from someone else. When someone like this cacher who looks like they want to find it to just clear the area, it's not fun if you want more help then the ones who can solve it. I noticed you haven't found it yet. It's the Karuro one. I asked others, like I said above, on a totally different site but AFTER I emailed the CO to get a hint.. still haven't got a response, btw.. emailed him again tonight.. but in my case there's no number pattern at all and there's no hint or key or anything to give a hint... just says to figure it out.. I can't stop trying tho, just my mentality I guess
  17. I think this idea is awesome! You could put it on a ribbon rack and wear it on your geocaching outfit, I dig it!
  18. I checked out your cache and it looks like I need to be heading your way too!!!I go to Charleston every once in a while, I'll be sure to save some of yours on my phone to find!
  19. Thanks man, I need to make a couple road trips, too.. I agree, a couple places in Kentucky are very active, and the northern part of our state is packed with caches too, especially for the ExploreWV challenges..
  20. I see where they do alot for the area to support caching and I'm very thankful for that, and I plan on attending the Hatfield & McCoy trail event.. but if you cache around Logan (Williamson/Pikeville is about 45 minutes to an hour from here) you'll see that way too many caches are missing and not many are being placed.. There are a handful of active people, and I'm having a blast, don't get me wrong, I'd just like to see more people getting into it and keeping up with what they place. I placed my 3rd one today, I figure if I place interesting and fun caches it might spur more activity from the people with more experience than me to keep going.. and I've introduced several more people to caching this last month.. I'd like to meet some of the veteran cachers around here and pick their brains a lil' too! I'm sure there's alot I could learn from them
  21. I started caching here recently and I see that there aren't very many new caches being placed, alot of caches are in need of maintenance or missing altogether, and there isn't a whole lot of activity in the area.. Are there any groups or super active cachers around here?
  22. Just don't go after micros if you don't like them, problem solved...
  23. Happy Dance and yelling usually comes first Take a picture that won't give anything away, for me to show my wife, friends, maybe share on here.. open, sign log, do some trading If it's wet or nasty I'll do what I can to fix it, like wipe it out or replace a bag but I haven't found enough to have horror story caches yet Then I always put it back just the way I found it, hopeing that's how it was originally
  24. I have never tried to use one, because I saw what happened to the ones other cachers used. In about a year or less, the lid cracks. That is, if the local rodents don't find it first, and chew big holes in it. There is something about polyethylene that makes rodents want to chew it, and I'm sure the impregnated coffee aroma makes them want to see what is inside as well. Great for storage in the garage and around the house, not so wonderful outside in the woods and the desert. If only we could convince Folgers to put their coffee in ammo cans.... thats an oh no:P YIKES!! Thanks, When and if it starts to show any wear I'll switch it up to one of the other recommended containers..
