Puzzles are alright. Some are extremely annoying but some are actually quite interesting. Me: 10 Miles: 0 25 Miles: 13 (Including 4 Bonuses and 1 Challenge so only actually 8 puzzles) 1000 ?s: 93.3 miles from my home. Not too many puzzles around here.

Commonwealth Games and Geocaching
GilkerscleughCachers replied to Graculus's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
Was the Mega planned to clash with the Commonwealth Games? Sitting watching the opening ceremony. Let the games begin! -
My Cache centroid is at N 55° 35.064 W 03° 35.567 which is 8.7 miles (14km) from home after 554 finds.

Photo Competition - July 2014
GilkerscleughCachers replied to walk tall's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
This is at GC31HTK which is at the summit of Cornish Hill looking North(ish) taken on 27 April 2014 . I believe the sea is just in shot. This is my first shot at the photo competition. Hope you enjoy. -
Do you crave for a FTF?
GilkerscleughCachers replied to torkel72's topic in General geocaching topics
I do try for FTF all the time when caches are generally within 20 miles of home. It's quite remote around here and there is few cachers. It is human nature to be competitive. -
I always date my log unless I'm told "Initials Only" so it's just GCCS or even GCS. Also, if in a rush or I can't remember I might not put a date.

Status check: Number of caches in your area
GilkerscleughCachers replied to JBnW's topic in General geocaching topics
Within 10 miles of my home, there is 57 caches. 31 of which I own 8 of which were placed in the time I have been caching (since Feb 2013) 5 of which I am yet to find 5 of which require maintenance which they are unlikely to get. The number is likely to increase as I have some to hide but it won't increase by much. -
Resignation as a Volunteer

I'm devestated to here this. You've been a great reviewer to us in the UK. I hope you remain a mainstay in the UK Geocaching community. -
Multi's, do they bug anyone apart from me?!
GilkerscleughCachers replied to catrim's topic in General geocaching topics
Well. They don't annoy me as the ones around here are either ingenious (GC37NMD), have some interesting historical information (GC44G7G) or they are FTF's (GC55N81). They are all pretty fun whether you end up finding a magnetic nano or a tupperware. -
Popular Geocaching Spots
GilkerscleughCachers replied to repcosy's topic in General geocaching topics
Please. Lets not encourage logging the same cache 'several' times... Yeah. It messes up statistics. You could hide a 2nd Cache, make it an Unknown Cache and put in the description that you will find the co-ordinates for this cache in the container of the first cache. -
Wow. Just Wow. Massive amounts of Wow. 100,000 finds, that is incredible. Well done to them!

iPad's are expensive so you may want to equip it with a Griffin Armour case (I believe that's what they're called. Those cases are practically indestructable.

I have 83 FTF's to date. As far as I can recall, the only FTF prize we have received is a stitch on FTF badge.

Does your caching name still suit you?
GilkerscleughCachers replied to MI_CO's topic in General geocaching topics
I believe we are still living in Gilkerscleugh and I believe we are still cachers so I think it still fits -
There must of been an issue loading maps. On Thursday evening, I was logging a few caches (I use the map as it's easier for me to remember which order I did them in). Once I had done, I was trying to look at the map but it wouldn't load on IE or Firefox.

I only acknowledge a photo log on any of my caches if they have forgotten their pen so couldn't sign the logbook. Everybody forgets their pen at one point I'm pretty sure. The photo of the logbook and container is usually deleted afterwards if I feel it's too revealing.

A bit of Hamster fun

Hi, I would honestly consider either a Jeep Wrangler or if they sell them in the US, a Land Rover Defender or Discovery. A winch would be handy on it to pull you out. We have Mitsubishi's at the moment but haven't tried them off road. We did once have an Isuzu Trooper from the 90s which we used to move firewood out of a forest which was churned up and it performed quite well. Personally, I would stick to caches that you walk to or cache and dash.

New Geocaching Series
GilkerscleughCachers replied to Brownburys's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
I agree with this. I recently tried to ask permission to hide a cache between a Grit Bin and the church boundary by sending the church minister an e-mail. That was nearly 6 weeks ago and I still don't have a response hence the reason why I hid the cache further away from the church to avoid permission issues. -
Hi, If you want a good way to see some nice scenery, you should have a look at the Haggis Highway which snakes about the North of Scotland and parts of the South. There is a Mega event in Ayrshire on 2nd August as well which has triggered a lot of new caches in Ayrshire so that could be a nice place to go. I hope you enjoy your trip to Bonnie Scotland.

Craziest experiences geocaching
GilkerscleughCachers replied to christyglpn's topic in General geocaching topics
Nothing to weird here. Stepped over a dead badger to get to a cache once. Did 105 caches in a day once and found a cache in a small cave. As I said, everything is perfectly normal. -
I am very happy to see trackables move through my Travel Bug Hotel commonly. There is a couple of local cachers who come back and write a note to trade Trackables. I even use it to prevent me holding trackables too long and it can be a busy wee cache at times.
