  1. I would like Garmins 24K National Parks, East. Hoping someone was disappointed with the coverage and would like to sell it cheap. I could also use US metroguide. I know many have upgraded to city select but it is out of my price range. I need cheap. Any help here would also be appreciated.
  2. I ended up with the GPSMap 60 Mono. I had all I could do to scrape up that money for it. If I would have been able to afford it I defiantly would have gotten the color. I manly use topo maps and the color makes a big difference. I am able to do the same thing with the b&w 60 and have used it for hunting and fishing and have not been disappointed in the accuracy or speed. Plus I know I got the best GPS (for my needs) that I could afford.
  3. I’ve used it with a bike and found it to work well. But then I decided to give it a real test (ended up being more than I expected). My father was going 4 wheeling so I hooked it on the handle bars and off he went. Well when he got back the fortrex was covered with mud. After a quick bath for the GPS he finally let the cat out of the bag that he had the bike role when crossing a crick and he jumped off before the bike ended on its to baring the GPS in the mud. The bracket is still fine as is the foretrex. Also I do wrap the band around the mount as extra security.
  4. This will get you the USB driver so you can connect to the computer USB Driver And this will get the Preloaded POI Database on the right side of the update Software page. Preloaded POI Database Not sure if it will over write the base map that is on it or if even tuches the base map but its the best I can do.
  5. Since you don’t have a GPS of your own get a mapping unit as your first. The only reason to get the 201 would be for the size. You will want one with maps in the end in the end. The memory will also be handy as you find out how nice the maps are and what you can do with the GPS I have the 60 as my first unit and then just got a fortrex 101 (because of size and the wrist strap) for kayaking and biking as well as a backup for the 60. If they would have had it with mapping capability I would have spent the extra even with the small screen. Get the Legend and have fun!
  6. I’ve had a little time to play and the foretrex works great. Yep, it was a package deal and when I emailed tiger GPS they replied that the data cable was included along with the bike bracket. O well I have drained a pair of AAA in the last 2 days. Took some time just setting things set up. I used it well driving around found it worked well slipped over the side of the rearview keeps a reception of 25-35” not to bad for a weird place. I mowed the lawn (amazing how far you drive in a 1 acre yard.) I to would suggest the 201 if I were to use it for these things daily and have acces to the wall outlet. But I still will stick to the decision that away from civilization the 101 is the way to go. But either way these are neat units.
  7. Just opened the package and found the data cable is not included. Havent had time to play yet but will get back.
  8. I agree with the idea that rechargeable are the way to go when it comes to caching or for that matter any time the device is going to be used a lot daily. Just think of the money saved and the waste not in the landfill. The cost of replacing the batteries when dead will still be less than I will have spent on AAA. The thickness between the 201 and the 101 is significant. The 101 is ½ again as thick. If this was a 60C the same change in dimensions would make it about 2 inches thick. I only purchased the 101 as a back up and for use in the kayak and bike. When I go camping I will be away from a power source for 3 or 4 days at a time. This is when I feel the need for the AAA. I will be using rechargeable AAA for it when I am home and on the bike. But the kayak trips and any camping that will be done in the wilderness I need to have replacements. I just feel rechargeable don’t cut it in these circumstances.
  9. I ended up getting the Foretrex 101. Thanks for all the help. I just ordered it yesterday From Tiger GPS it had the computer cable and bike bracket fpr $116.10. I emailed ahead to see if they had it in stock, placed the order yesterday, and it was shipped out yesterday afternoon. It should be in my hands tomorrow. Here's the link incase you would like it Foretrex 101
  10. Thanks for all the info! I do like the thickness of the 201 over the 101 but still not sure if that is as important as having the use of spare batteries. I think that if I was to use it constantly the 201 would be better because I would always have it on the charger and ready to use. But because I will be using it as more of a spare I think I would go to use it and find the batteries had dwindled and the unit would need to be charged before I could use it. Now to find the cheapest place. I see some are now coming with the bike mount for the same price.
  11. Yes, I made sure it did. I hate the manual typing a cache takes way to long. I have to purchase it separate, but I can get one. Its the forerunner 101 that dose not have the download capability.
  12. I’m looking to pick up a second GPSr. Either A foretrex 101 or a geko 201. This will be used on a bike, with a kayak, slipped in the pocket just for play and by the wife when caching. (I currently have a gpsmap 60 and have just started cashing and keep loosing it to the wife.). I am leaning towards the foretrex because of the wrist strap and the 101 because I can and use rechargeable but get batteries anywhere if I need them. Any reason I should change my mind or am I on the right track.
  13. Would anyone like to get read of their National Park East.
  14. From your info I think the bear spray would be a good idea. Please read the directions a slight breeze will cause a very unpleasant surprise. A loud whistle is also surprising what it will scare away or the help it will attract. This has helped may people out of trouble and everyone in the woods should carry one. My personal opinion I to believe that a sidearm is the best bet. But completely agree with BadAndy if you never used one they can be more trouble. Get one and some training you will feel very safe.
  15. some one must be disappointed in the limited coverage and want to sell. (This is the national park east topo maps). please!!!
  16. Would like to buy topo 24k east. The funds a thin so please be easy on the price
  17. I also have the gpsmap 60 and it worked fine. I just had trouble finding things that look good as way pts. The back ground color is also not the same as the color. I think ours keeps it white or clear. I did this a few weeks ago so I will have to look at them again.
  18. That is where I was comparing it but I guess I wanted to know if things like water and wetlands are more exact. I like to fish and the small ponds and streems look better is this true Dana
  19. Dose anyone have Garmin 24K National park east. I currently have the topo but the detail of the 24klook great but before I sink the money into them I just wanted to know how others felt about it. by the way I live just on the edge of the Adirondacks. And this is where I spend 90% of my time in the woods. Dana
  20. Guess I lucked out that reinstaling the driver worked.
  21. I had the same problem with my 60 B&W and ended up going to the device manager and deleting it and then reconnected it so it would reinstall the driver and now it works just as before.
  22. The active track thing fixed my problem now I have a second question. After uploading then downloading fixing the bad point and reuploading all looks great. So I save the track and they all play connect the dot. How can I fix this.
  23. Has anybody had trouble up loading tracks from dnr to the 60 with usb cable
