  1. Won't be able to make the triad event. I'll be skiing in Breckenridge, CO. It sounds like a cool event and would be up for a triangle version when I return. I may be able to host a meet here at the Museum of Natural Sciences if folks are into an indoor meet during the dreary season. Might be able to doa musuem scavanger hunt kind of thing, since GPS and cell reception sucks in the building. Happy New Year to all! Be careful what you wish for!
  2. quote: Gee, I hope I didn't come across as bashing my own mom... No, I haven't taken her caching. I did show her my GPS, though. Hmmm.. I'm trying to picture if my mom would like caching. She does like to be outside and doing stuff, but I still think she'd think it was a bit silly. I don't think she'd be too interested in reading through or signing the logbook or logging online No, you didn't, I just couldn't resist the dig. When you break all sports and activities down to their basic elements they seem a little silly. Take golf- hit a little ball with an expensive stick across some open space until you find a hole in the ground! I took my family out once; the neices and nephews got into the 'treasure hunt' and chance to trade an old toy for a new one. My dad enjoys the gadget part of the trek, and being outdoors. Mom and my sibs find caching silly. We all have our motivations for doing this. Mine is a goal at the end of the hike to get me outdoors, and enjoying the solitude and peace. Probably because I work in a noisy, public place. Be careful what you wish for!
  3. quote: After much thought, I think the origin of my desire to be without the "safety net" comes from my mother. She is the type that wants to do everything for me. After I moved out when I was 18, she would come visit, and bring groceries... and do my laundry and dishes while she was there, and other chores. I hated it. So Jamie, ever take your mom geocaching with you just for kicks? Be careful what you wish for!
  4. How do I do this? I'm sure it has been discussed before, but I cannot find the thread. I am fairly lotech, earning my living with sharp knoves and fire so I need some help on this one. Thanks in advance. Be careful what you wish for!
  5. The RDU TB Hotel cache is open for business just in time for holiday travel. It is an easy in/out on the way to the airport. The cache page is at: Sorry I do not know if I have made this link directly, I am lo-tech, and earn my living with sharp knives and fire. Be careful what you wish for!

  8. Why Jamie you look like such a swinger I thought for sure you would have rushed right out to by a copy of the album (yes back in the days b4 CD's) for your next session with your SO. I'm glad Pater47 is on the same page as me. Once at the cache site your challange isn't too hard. The hint was there to discourage leaving the trail too early lest they do cause themselves some "tedious exercise"(Geoprincess) via unecessary bushwacking, since the trail meanders quite a bit through the preserve. Be careful what you wish for!
  9. quote: quote:-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Originally posted by Alan2: That's the entire cache description. No hint. It's in western Alaska near Nome. The only guy who attempted it had to abandon his quest as a Tundra fire blocked his path. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=4697 Ok who's ready to go?? Alan -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hah! Check out Mapquest for this one. I wonder about this one's veracity. I know volunteers are supposed to check out the caches before putting them on the site, but how dod you verify this one? Yes there is a River with the cache's name nearby according to mapquest. But did anyone else notice that the cache was placed by JOKE eener? Now back to the thread this started out as: I have hidden one near marker #10 on a nature trail. The trail twists a lot, so your GPS can encourage some serious bushwacking if you are not patient So is "Ravel's Bolero" a good or a bad hint? My 2 cent Be careful what you wish for!
  10. He looks like the missing singer/dancer from the Village People. Be careful what you wish for!
  11. Well it looks like plenty of folks are reading this post. Don't any of you have other Griswold worthy light shows to share? Be careful what you wish for!
  12. I had just posted a query elsewhere in the forum (The Hunt...) asking about other airport TB caches. I saw one near Denver's airport that I will be visiting next month with the Hippy Hippo in tow; and was wondering if there were many others out there. I have scouted out a suitable tree behind the Hilton between RDU and I-40 and plan on placing it tomorrow if I have time. Be careful what you wish for!
  13. quote: First and foremost, THINK EXTRA HARD before placing a cache at or near an airport. I agree little green men, that in today's climate this is a sensitive issue. The site I have in mind is in a cache friendly tree in a wooded area behind the Hilton on the access road connecting the airport to I-40. I think that sensible cachers will be able to access the site without drawing undue attention. Be careful what you wish for!
  14. In planning for our trip to Breckenridge in January, I discovered there is a TB Hotel cache right near the DEN airport. The Hippy Hippo is already packed with my ski togs so I don;t forget to bring him along. I think I rememeber seeing a cache near Hartsfield in Atlanta following another TB's thread once too. Are there any other airport caches out there and are they popular? If so I will hide one near RDU. I have already scouted out an appropriate tree in an easily accesible parking lot just off airport property. Be careful what you wish for!
  15. quote:Originally posted by CYBret:I've got 2 kids and a pregnant wife and a few other people who also depend on me for one thing or another. For their sake I carry a cellphone at all times. For my sake I don't always answer it. Bret I'm with Bret on this one. As a small restaurant owner my staff need to be able to reach me if we are open for business and I am not there. That is the only reason I own a cell phone, and there are days, or parts of days when I can get out and search for buried treasure and leave them alone to take care of business.Since I usually go out alone it seems silly and unresponsible to not bring it along; but I do not have to drop my pack and answer on the first ring. Much to my wife's consternation I do not keep the electrical umbilical cord on 24/7, and usually shut it off after we are closed for the day. Be careful what you wish for!
  16. quote:And I like that Friday night posting thing. Do you think we could get Jermey to hold ALL new caches until Friday night? Say, midnight? Can you just picture the mad scramble at that time. Thousands of people sitting around in their caching gear downloading caches as fast as they can. Teams of people scattered around the city waiting on the cell phone, waiting on a call from base It would be like the people sleeping in their cars to get tee times at Bethpage's Black Course on Long Island. Golf is my other addiction, and costs a lot more than geocaching! Be careful what you wish for!
  17. This was disapproved as a virtual cache beacuse of its non-permanent nature but I just had to get the word out. Go to N 35.42.429 W 078.44.943. You will see a holiday display that would make the Griswold Family proud. Happy Holidays to my geocacher pals! Be careful what you wish for!
  18. Please fill me in as to why *GeoGod* would take the entire contents of a cache and leave a paste-up note talking about losers, being geo-slammed, and the relocation of the contents to another location. Yes, Raoul, geodog thought it would be funny to remove the contents of my cache Keys to the Cache-l, leave a 'ransom'note made of magazine cutouts, and place them in another cache. Gneiss, Tuff, and Wacke came to the rescue while I was still at work and put everything back in order. What was the point of this behavoir? The note obviously took some time to prepare, especially since it included the new coordinates-which turned out to be the Double Bubble Cache. I wish there were some way to ban idiots like that from the website. Be careful what you wish for!
  19. quote:How much time will you have in the Denver area? There are caches you can do uven with a lot of snow. Thi is a virtual on the west side of the city, not too far from the highway Let me know how long you are going to be in CO and we, C.A.C.H.E. will what we can to help We arrive at 1.30pm,and I would like to be out in front of westbound traffic, but am game for a legstretching detour on the way to ski country. I already have a TB for Mondo's Bug Hotel, have printed out the S Platte River Coin cache, and could stop for the great Human Being one if it is not too far off the highway. We also may spend some time back in Denver on departure day since our flight isn't til 3.40pm. The CO Benchmark intrigued me since I run the restaurant at the NC Museun of Natural Sciences and may wnat to check out your dino bones. Um, Dogsoldier- are you trying to keep all the good powder for yourself? The listing for Co Island warns not to try in winter due to the unstabel ice; or is this year's drought so severe that we would be safe trying for it? Thanks in advance for the tips. Be careful what you wish for!
  20. It's like a virtual eclipse in here. You know you shouldn't look, but can't help yourself. I'd like a piece without too much spam in it please. Be careful what you wish for!
  21. Can't wait to come play in your park. My in-laws live in Clinton and I am always looking for an excuse to get out of the house there. Be careful what you wish for!
  22. We are flying from NC into DEN and driving out to Breckenridge right after New Year's for some skiing. Any recommendations for caches along the way or in Summit Co. once we get there? Not interested in taking on any major league 4WD/snoeshoe expeditions, but not afraid of a challange either! Thanks in advance-Wimseyguy and Shadowgal Be careful what you wish for!
  23. Love to. I'm fairly new to geocaching but love good competition.I'll stand up for my adopted home of Raleigh anytime. I just hope I'm not lured over to the dark side. Where and when? PS just read through all the posts and so far 10/26 works for me. Be careful what you wish for! [This message was edited by wimseyguy on September 18, 2002 at 01:33 PM.]

  25. Just a friendly reminder to exercise caution when geocaching. It is always a good idea to use a stick or something other than your arm when reaching for a cache in a wooded area. I pushed a 14 inch Copperhead off the trail near the Trade Show cache last night around sundown. He was just catching the last few rays of warmth off the pavement when I came by. Yes I'm sure it was a Copperhead. There are very good resources for identifying snakes where I work. Be careful what you wish for!
