  1. Homeless Crackheads. Went to find a cache hidden in a town square that has a little stage in it. I went behind the outdoor stage and there was 1 old lady and 3 kids about 20 something years old. All of them were falling down they were so high.
  2. 1.Fine Tip Permanent marker.(writes on anything) 2.Bug Repellent Wipes 3.Roll of Camo Tape 4.First Aid Kit 5.Pick up Claw tool, Small Parts Grabber 6.Extra Batteries 7.Ziplock type bags 8.GPS 9.Signature Swag items 10.Small LED Hand powered flashlight
  3. Geocaching is also like the word "tactical". You can take a normal everyday item like duct tape, call it "tactical duct tape" and now it is $15 more. Even though the original item never changed or improved. Like the word 'Official' somehow makes it more genuine - like those "As Seen On TV" splashes I see on stuff. These days I see 'Extreme' thrown around a lot - I guess that's the new hype - "Hey, you gormless twit, this is what you need to be more socially acceptable and recognized as a savvy, hip and happening person! Buy it! Wear it! Eat it! Drink it! And above all, be sure to tell everyone you meet how utterly cool it is that you have it. Also, paste our logo on your shirt or back of car window!" Maybe my fortunes lay in neon, dayglow Extreme cache containers for $30. But you only get it at that price if you are a member of their "club".

  5. I've started making some new ones with a new design in the middle. I'll post pics when I can.
  6. Those are nice. Unfortunately I do not have the same artistic ability. People would probably throw something out that I tried to paint.
  7. The story did not state that it was Woodland Camo or anything specific of that nature. It just said "Pipe wrapped in duct tape" Due to them saying the device had shrapnel. I would guess, the Pipe contained the explosive and the shrapnel was taped to the outside of the pipe.
  8. I have a signature coin I make out of clay. I use different colors and designs with a plastic insert that carries my Geocaching moniker and other identifiers. I then put them in a small plastic bag so they don't get messed up too bad. I like signature items.
  9. What if instead of Paint, camo tape was put on it. Is that any different?
  10. "Apparently the worshipped some diety or a great deal of them were named "TNLN TFTC"" ((Reading over log book)) "What's a Snoogans?"
  11. I been out for a while and this was something that happened before I left. I recently got back into it and always wondered where I went wrong. So I could avoid creating problems again. I've since looked up the listing and found that it was apparently archived. Maybe Ill make another one and make it right.
  12. Those are words to Cache by! Next time I will do more research before repair work and make a judgement call. I'll either take the risk or say FIDO!
  13. I guess my thoughts were more for the Cacher and not the Cache Owner. I was thinking what it felt like to come upon a worthless GC that was filled with wood pulp and dirt and how I could at least repair it prior to the next cacher coming upon it and finding it in the same condition. The CO did not seem like it was in his list of things to do anytime soon.
  14. I can assure you that I looked, but after typing in several variations of what I thought would be included in a post that covered the topic to no avail. Hence the reason I started the post asking for someone to point me in the right direction if the topic already exist. But thank you for doubting my character, providing a long windy reason THEN giving the short answer, which in fact is opinion. Thanks for your assistance.
  15. "Geocaching: Leaving useless time capsules behind for future civilizations to find." This has always made me laugh, because I think about people in the future accidentally digging up a Geocache and thinking they hit some treasure when it fact it is a container with odd random trinkets and paper with pointless names and dates.
  16. Well, I didn't think about HAVING to put a cache in a clear container. I guess maybe I should carry some GC stickers with me too. This city park is near my house and I do not think they know what a geocache is let alone have requirements on them. I feel if I come across a cache that is in need of repair and I have the means to repair it, then by all means. I guess I will continue doing what I do and take the good with the bad. I do carry a couple smaller Lock&Locks with me, but I limit using them unless absolutely necessary due to cost.
  17. My reasoning behind that is, the area was clear of underbrush, it was basically a shady area with trees and dead leaves on the ground. The cache was basically in the open at the base of a tree, so I figured I would help it blend in a little better as it was easily seen. I figured it was tampered with by some kids.
  18. I attempted to find a similar topic and was unable to locate one. If you know a link for a similar topic, point me in the right direction. I was curious on what everyone's thoughts were on fixing caches for people. I had been hunting for a cache that was located in a wooded area behind a city park. When I found the cache it was a typical gladware container. It was missing the lid and the log was pulp. After some hunting I found the lid which seemed intact. The bottom of the container was still clear and the lid just had some Camo tape. I also found a few plastic animal figures that I assumed were swag items. The hint on the GC was fairly specific and I found it where it said it should be. I decided instead of just putting a "Needs Maintenance" Log, I would just do the maintenance while I was there. I carry a bag that has supplies, so I spray painted the bottom of the container with Flat Brown(which best matched the surrounding area), I put a new log and baggie in the cache and some of my swag that I had with me. I logged that I found it and what maintenance work I had done on the Cache. Approximately 3 weeks later I received an email from the cache owner who basically told me that it was HIS cache and if he wanted it repaired he would have done it. I didn't think I was doing anything wrong and I meant well. I had emailed him back and apologized and quoted a "needs Maintenance" log that had been posted 2 weeks prior. He never replied. I am just curious if performing cache maintenance on someones cache(that is not yours) is acceptable or not? Thanks

  20. As a police officer, I have several opinions on some of the posts in this thread. First off, I work Graveyards, so some of the more suspicious people at night are people in places, where people aren't usually at when it's dark. Ie. Cemetary, park, closed businesses, dead end streets, the woods. Someone walking around late at night in a secluded area is suspicious. It is a police officers job to investigate ANYTHING that officer feels is suspicious. Just like traffic stops. There are some very notable criminals that were apprehended based on traffic stops and an officers reasonable suspicion. My suggestion is carry, the pamphlets that were mentioned before. But, if you carry a backpack, don't quickly reach into a bag or pocket. Keep your hands in view when an officer approaches you. Explain to him what you are doing, and then tell him you have material that explains it and ask if you can retrieve it. I get very nervous when a subject I am talking to wants to reach into bags or pockets. Especially when I don't know what is in that bag or pocket. I think, all Geocachers need to understand, the act of Geocaching can look extremely suspicious at times and included with the hunt, is the fun in the stealth involved in searching for some caches. I'd probably get in trouble admitting it, but there has been a time or two at 4am where it was slow and something that kept me awake was looking for a P&G. Even then, in full uniform I worried someone might see me and think it was suspicious, even though a cop standing around anywhere, might not really be suspicious. *NO I AM NOT SUGGESTING YOU DRESS UP LIKE A POLICE OFFICER WHILE GEOCACHING! LOL Have fun, and if you are not doing anything illegal, and you're not "Drunk Caching". There shouldn't be a problem. If it's late at night and you are in a questionable area, like closed businesses or the like, don't be surprised if you are asked to leave. I think it's the price you may pay for the game you play. As far as the original question, out of approximately 140 sworn officers at my department, there is only 3 others I have talked to that have heard of it. 2 of which I talked to about it. I have spread the word the best I can, but maybe a class and some pamphlets would help get the word out. Maybe Ill set something up.
  21. Ive never got PI from Caching, but I have had it from doing yard work, and that was enough of an experience to remind me to take precautions. Surprisingly on this cross country trip I am on right now, I have found myself in the woods in Shorts and Crocs. neither of which are good for caching in the woods. Each time I have returned to my car and wiped off with baby wipes, Wet wipes and then a layer of alcohol hand sanitizer. Seems to have worked thus far, but I plan on mixing some dawn into a spray bottle with a little water and keeping it in my Geocaching bag.
  22. They're cute! Is that Sculpey you're using? Is that little circular piece made of paper and is glued down? Very nice!! Yes it's sculpey. The center piece is actually shrinky dink printer paper. I coat the whole thing with polycrilic(sp).
  23. I would like the "like button" if it was also kept in house. I appears to just link to a posting on your FB page, unless I am missing something.
