  1. I use a yellow e-trex when I cache. Its dose have a compass on it and it really has a lot of other features in that I don't use. The only thing you really need the cable for is updates to the e-trex. Right now there aren't any so don't worry about the cable unless your Planning on seaching for 20 or more caches at a time, Like some cachers then, yes invest in a cable now. Otherwise wait tell you really need one. I will tell you this much I have only lost singnal a couple times this summer. Do mainly to trees and rocks. Accuracy is general pretty good with it. I've been anywhere from 2ft. to 80ft. off on the caches average is about 30 ft. I think it depends on the unit, The cachers uses to get their cords. So I would say to go for it. I've found about 300 caches with the one that I have. Good Luck and Safe Caching.
  2. If its any help I use a etrex. It is a basic unit but what else do you need? I have over 300 finds and 75% was with the etrex, 25% was by using maps and clues.
  3. I cache for the fun of it and not to see how many I can do in one day. You don't enjoy the sport if you're on the run all the time. Besides my best day is 12. that was no virts. But The wife and I Plan our caching trips By plotting the caches out on a map and figuring out the shortest route for a round trip. We do caching for exercise and relaxation. Its a day away from the Business and her Job.
  4. I've read all Your comments. Although I am a charter Member I do agree with one or two things that have been saying. One I agree with you that your cache should Not have been Rejected cause it was to close to a Virtual cache. I also agree with the statement you can check it out first. If you do find a MOC cache that is close to where you want to place a cache, You could always E-Mail the Person who hide the cache and ask him to either check your cords with theirs or they could give you the cords to the MOC and let you check them out.
  5. Ok Ok ! ! So we're located more in the south central Illinois than Central. When we where growing up. We where told that Springfield was Central Ill. and every thing east of St. Louis was south Central. I'm sorry if I confused any of you. Olney Illinois is Located south of I-70 about 30 miles on Illinois route 130. Your club Idea Is a Great Idea. Good luck with your planing. If you do have a picnic please Let me know and I'll pass the word around down here. I Know I'd like to meet some other Cachers. Once again sorry for the Confusion.
