  1. I don't know if I agree with that. My bookmark list contains a To-do list of aches to do that are family friendly and a list of DNF's of mine that are still active (so I can see which ones I need to try again). I personally don't plan to make a "top XXX" list.
  2. I posted my take on using shared bookmark lists on the NW forum, but it was suggested I copy it here as well. This was in response to a thread where people gave links to their bookmark lists. http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=92037
  3. As nice as it is to look through these lists, I am not finding them particularly useful when it comes to sharing them. I think they work wonderfully as a "to-do" list, but when I am looking over everyone's list, these are the problems I have with them: 1. No mention of where these caches are. I'd like to see something similar to how normal cache listings say "x.xx miles from your home coordinates". 2. I don't know if these are caches I've done or not. I'd like to see something similar to how normal cache listings shade caches that I have already been to. 3. I don't know ratings on these caches, so if I wanted to do some, I'd have to open each in order to see the difficulty and terrain. I'd like to see it listed in the list view. Basically, I'd like to see more information in the list, similar to normal search results. Then I'd actually find looking at shared lists useful. John
  4. Not while caching, but while driving in an area of Issaquah, WA where there are lots of trails (and caches), I saw a black bear sit up next to the road, before heading back into the woods. This was on Highway 900 between Squawk and Cougar Mountains.
  5. Marky, your example of the map is exactly why I wish we could toggle the caches we've found. Currently, we can toggle the "found" icon which removed the checkboxes, but it leaves all the caches still there. In some areas, there are way too many things on the map, and I'd like to narrow it down just to ones I still haven't found. Luckily I can just get a pocket query and use that info in MS Streets & Trips to get what I want, but then I have to plan ahead of time where I want that map centered.
  6. I know that the maps are new, and they're great, but when I'm looking at a map with tons of caches nearby, I would like to view only the ones I haven't done, so as to not clutter the screen up. Would it be possible to add a checkbox or something that would "filter finds" such as can be done when searching for caches nearest home coordinates?
  7. <sarcasm> Ok, here's a "fun" variation which will allow me to have fun, and therefore, everyone else will have fun as well. Since I am a scuba diver, I'm going to take find caches near the water, and toss all the contents into the nearby water. I'll then leave a note in the cache, telling everyone where they can trade their items. It'll be a great boost to the sport of SCUBA, so its gotta be a good idea. </sarcasm> I agree that the someone places a cache, then if anyone else wants to use that cache in any other way (other than take something/leave something) they should get the permission of the person who placed it. This is regardless of if it "pirate" activity, or placing a codeword in the cache as part of a larger hide. If it isn't yours, don't mess with it.
  8. Already there... You send them $3, and you get to try out all the member only features for a whole month! http://www.geocaching.com/subscribe/
  9. I like the stats. I don't find the # of finds to be what I strive for (otherwise I'd take part in the local "cache machines") but I like to use them to set mini-goals for myself. I also like to look up friends of mine and see when they last cached, how many, etc. so that I can give them a hard time about it (in good fun of course). Personally, I like the stats system the way it is, and wouldn't remove any of what we currently have. Of course, if things were added, such as on Dan's stat page, I could easily be talked into that.
  10. I have logged from the cache site before. I used a PocketPC with my IR enabled cell phone (Nokia 8290 with T-Mobile) and just dial it into my normal ISP.
  11. I got a friend hooked on geocaching, but he's in Wisconsin, and I'm in Seattle. One day, he IM'd me that we picked up a travelbug in a cache, and so I looked up the URL. I'm thinking that the travelbug looked familiar, and then when I started reading the logs I realized that just a few days earlier, I was planning on getting to a cache that contained this travelbug, but missed it by just 1 hour.
  12. I guess I deserved that. I haven't used the map page in a while, since I usually import into MS Maps & Streets, so I wasn't even paying attention to the text below the map. I tried searching but it looks like the search feature is having a bit of difficulty. I've also been away from the forums for awhile, so I haven't been able to keep up on everything as much as I'd like. I knew I would probably be markwelled, but didn't quite expect that many previous threads on the topic! I believe this is the most I've ever seen any thread markelled so quickly.
  13. When I am logged in and pull up a state map, I see the new ones with a different icon, but I don't see any difference in the ones that I've already done. There are no white and black box icons.
  14. This is what actually pushed me over to becoming a paid member. I added my 100th watched cache, and it told me that was the limit, unless I became a member. Within 5 minutes, I had sent in my money.
  15. At least you got a somewhat quick response from them. I tried contacting them for a week straight with multiple phone calls, voice messages, and emails. Finally after I threatened to have my credit card company go after them did I get a response in email.
  16. I assumed you mean AdvancedGPS.com? I bought from them just a few weeks ago before I noticed that bizrate.com has tons of complaints for them. Their customer service is horrible (non-existant), but I finally did receive my Garmin GPSMAP 76S (though not as quickly as I hoped). It was a day or two after I ordered that the web site no longer listed Garmin products. That made me really start to wonder if I had been taken. Anyways, I would not buy from them again either.
