  1. I'm new to travel bugs too, but I'll throw in my $.015 (darn inflation)... The Travel Bug FAQ says this: quote:Q. What can I do with a Travel Bug?A. You can attach it to an item to make it a hitchhiker, or use them without attaching them to anything. So I've looked at the Bug as an entity itself...especially since it's called a bug and has a picture of bug on the tag. But then again I usually take things too literally! I now have 6 bugs out in the wild and I've named them all as if I was naming the bug (since I was naming th bug). Though only one of them is attached to something that normally have a name...and in that case I'm not sure who I named now that I think of it! If I was consistent in my line of thought (which usually isn't the case) I would have given the bug and the traveller each a name. Hmmm. So...for me I'm going to vote for personal preference. But then like I said...I'm new to this too, so maybe I'm doing it all wrong... ;

  3. quote:If you went looking for a cache and didnt actually find it would you log it as a find? That doesn't quite fit since caches aren't hidden inside a secondary container. My thoughts were along the lines of SurveyTech... For your average civilian, locating the monument box is the best you can do without putting people in danger, breaking the law, causing damage, etc. For official NGS records, no it wouldn't be a find. But I think for the hobby/sport of geocaching/benchmarking it would be. [This message was edited by Egnix on August 26, 2002 at 08:23 AM.]
  4. I have "found" two benchmarks which were both in monuments planted in the middle of intersections. For one of them I was able to walk out there and snap a picture, but there was too much traffic for the other one. Can I just assume the benchmark is still in the monument and log it as a find? I've also found a monument that, while it wasn't in an intersection, it didn't want to open easily...so I left it alone. Can I count this as a find?
  5. Thanks for the reply. Any chance benchmark queries will be added in the (near) future?
  6. I've been wondering if you can do those custom benchmark queries with the charter membership like you can do with cache queries. Anyone know?
  7. I just found out about the Fall Hiking Spree where if you hike 8 of the 12 designated trails you get a hiking staff and shield (more info at SummitMetroParks.org). I know there are caches in some of these parks, but I think it would be great to have one in all of them! I'm new to both geocaching and the MetroParks so I'm still not sure which parks have caches, but I'd offer to help add a cache or two. Does someone know who to contact to get permission, etc?
  8. Canton, OH....'bout an hour south of Cleveland... Incidently, there seems to be a total of 0 caches in Canton... :/

    How much does a laser range finder cost? I just ordered a tool for my benchmark (and cache) hunting: the Sipix StyleCam Blink (small digital camera).
