  1. I would like to take one of each chapter. What ever happened to the local chapter down here in the Tri-Cities (Kennewick, Pasco, Richland). jehorlacher (Jeff)
  2. I still haven't seen mine yet. I know I paid. When can we expect to see them? Jeff
  3. I am actually torn between. I do look foward to finding an actual geocoin in a cache someday. Up to today, I have only found one copy of a coin. I know that I would feel bad if one of my coins were stolen from a cache, so I don't blame the owners for making a copy. I think the copies actually have a better chance of not being stolen and traveling than the original. If the owner wants to take the chance, great, I look foward to finding one and moving it along. If not, I am happy to move a copy along as well.
  4. haven't got mine yet either, think I'm going to make another reservation and see what happens
  5. does anybody have the correct website address, mine keeps on giving me an error message
  6. I reserved mine, but haven't seen an invoice yet. Is there any way somebody can verify that my reservation is good? Thanks.
  7. I am still relatively new to this game, so please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. I agree with El Diablo. I travel to different cities in the pacific northwest for work and family. I envision the hotels as a layover spot. If I see a TB in our local hotel and know that its heading towards the coast and I'm heading that way, then I run and grab it and take it to a hotel at my destination. And visitors to our area can drop TB's off for that same reason. I know our hotel is about a minutes drive from the main freeway through here and actually wish we had one at each or our main entrances/exits to our area. As far as restrictions from the cache owners, its a layover spot and should not have any.
  8. are these sold out? I tried to get one earlier, but the paypal link was bad, now I click in and it says they are all gone, any information on this one?
  9. OK, sounds like I'm not going to activate it. The next question is how long do you have to activate it. I'm assuming that if the website is still around in 15 years, the unactivated coin should still be in the database as unactivated and somebody else can activate it it they recieve it as a gift from me (if they choose to do so). Correct? Thanks for the inputs guys.
  10. I just started caching a couple of months ago and love geocoins. I just purchased some for my own personal collection to keep. How many of us activate the coins when you know that they are going to sit on your desk. If you activate them, then you can't give them away at some date if I somehow miracously change my mind. Whats your opinions? Thanks Jeff
  11. I just carry a backpack with my log book and pens and pencils, and water bottles, and sweat shirt, and cache items, and travelbugs, and snacks, and ..................... I think I probably have about 20 pens/pencils with me at all times. Then you pile the 2 yr old on my back while I'm carrying my walking stick, I look like I'm going on a 30 yr hike. I like the gel pens, but they too will bleed in the rain/water. I don't let my guys use those while working in the field. Standard ball point pens only. If it get too cold, put it in your pocket for a couple of minutes, carry about a dozen pens and you just switch off every couple of words.
  12. I sorta agree with "Kabuthunk". If you decide to keep the actual geocoin, and release a photocopy, you need to attach a travelbug dogtag with it and list it as a travelbug. You'll still get to watch it move around, and you will still make sure your original stays safe. I recently found a photocopy of a POW-MIA geocoin and didn't mind it. Somebody would likely have taken it for their collection if the actual coin was there. I have no problems with that (photocopy that is). I still logged it as if I actually got to see the actual coin. Still get the same respect in my mind and heart to hold the copy as the real one. It's all in what you believe.
  13. I see no problem with it if the coordinates are hidden. I really don't think that its any different than an actual cache container sitting there with the coordinates in it, that could be considered garbage by some and not natural, more not natural than a rock with a painted message on the bottom. Thats just my opinion.
  14. I'm new to this paperless caching too and haven't gone 100% yet. What does the gpx sonar software do? Thanks. Jeff
  15. how do we get to this mapping section from the geocaching.com web site. I have found a way to modify the coords directly from what was in the post but looking for the front way in. Thanks. Jeff
  16. I think I have read something before but I can't find my answer so I'm going to ask the question again. Can the display screen of gps units be replaced, or do you just toss it and get a new one? I have an explorist 400, and my buddy fell and thank goodness the gps was in his back pocket to break his fall, otherwise he might have a bruised bum. Thanks. Jeff
  17. I'm pretty much new to caching. I have cachemate and mobipocket ebook reader installed on my zire 31. I originally bought mine so I could have my contacts and calendar anywhere I go. I now use it for caching also. Works great.
  18. Thanks, I think I got it now. Appreciate all the help. Jeff
  19. OK, now that I have figured out to put gc's into GSAK, how do I transfer them to the explorist 400. I went to "gps", then to "export to magellan explorist", then gave it a file name and hit generate. It created a file on my computer but thats it. What do I don nesxt and am I missing something? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Jeff
  20. thanks, I did update the file. I will go into the gps from the computer and delete the file manually, thanks again. Jeff
  21. Hello everybody, I just purchased my magellan 400 a couple of months ago and am still trying to learn how do do things on it. I recently went on a motorcycle ride across the states and loaded a whole bunch of cache locations into the gps. I didn't find all of them and now I can't delete them. I went into the software that came with it and deleted them off the list, but when I go back in and look at the gps, they are all still there. Is there any way to delete them. I think I can go into the actual gps and select each one and delete it that way, but there should be an easier way to delete them from the list and update the gps. Any info would be apreciated. Jeff
  22. I just ordered mine the other day. I went to pricegrabber.com, typed in the unit danme and it came up with several places to buy, all which were mentioned above. The cheapes place for mine was from a company called ecost. They sounded pretty reputable from their reviews so I bought it. I purchaed a Magellan 400 series. Good luck. I'm still trying to find my first cache (when I get time). Jeff
