  1. In order to use the maps in MapSource you have to purchase them. They cannot be transferred to MapSource from the unit. That's why most people buy the DVD's. That way you can use the maps on (1) device and MapSource. Preloaded maps cannot be transferred. Sorry, but it's true...
  2. The GPSmap 60CSx has both a serial port and a USB port. You can uses either one. A standard Mini USB cable is all you need. The Serial port uses a special Garmin connector. Hope that answers your question.
  3. Anyone with an Oregon 550t been able to access the tide tables? All I can get is the location, but no tables.
  4. I've had a Colorado for a couple of years and the battery drain is about the same as the Oregon. My solution was to just use it normally with WAAS enabled and the compass as well, but with the backlight off during the daytime and take plenty of batteries. I use 2650 mAh Duracells and 2000 mAh Eneloops. I generally carry 4 or 6 extra fully charged batteries if I'll be out on the trail all day. I've never used all 6 even with the backlight on occasionally. I have a 550t being delivered today so I'll check and see how it compares. It's more than likely a real battery hog when you use the camera along with everything else. But, like I said I have plenty of batteries and a big backpack. Check here for additional info: http://garminoregon.wikispaces.com/ Ron...
  5. If you are checking the location of your target with a hand held compass, the setting is extremely important. I have mine set for True. But it's a matter of personal preference. If working with a compass (which I rarely ever do anymore) I'd set it for Mag. The setting has nothing to do with bounce. It'll be the same either way.
  6. Check out GPSFix: http://garminoregon.wikispaces.com/
  7. I'm pretty sure that's a known problem. My suggestion is to call Garmin...
  8. Sure could. Hook up your unit to your computer and open the GPX folder in the Garmin folder. That's where all your caches are stored. Just trash the ones you don't want.
  9. Great! Now, where's the Colorado 400t update?
  10. Don't know about carrying a notebook around for paperless. I carry my cellphone for that. Personally, I have no plans on moving away from my 60csx You are also comparing two unites that have different jobs (so to speak). One question: If your 60 were to fail would you replace it with another 60 or possibly consider something else?
  11. If you have more than one browser check and see if it installed in the other one. I have a Mac and the plugin only works in Firefox and won't work in Safari no matter what I do.
  12. First of all they're probably not gone, just out of range. Try searching for them by name and I'll bet they show up.
  13. I have both a Colorado 400t and a GPSMAP 60CSx. I also have cache descriptions on both a Palm and my iPod touch. For caching all I use anymore is the Colorado. Everything in one place. The 60 is my standby unit for geocaching and primary for most everything else and wet areas. The Colorado is not real good in wet weather. If I had to get by with one it would be the Colorado (maybe in a baggie in wet weather). The Colorado is a battery hog so be sure you have lots of rechargeable batteries. You might want to check out this site: http://garmincolorado.wikispaces.com/ I don't really understand what you mean here: "we'd like to be able to load caches via the cards when we go to events . . . . .Do these both work for this, is one better??"
  14. 1. You've solved the number one problem. You got plenty of batteries. 2. Browse through this: http://garminoregon.wikispaces.com/ 3. Get a Premium Membership in GC.com 4. Get GSAK or EasyGPS (I recommend GSAK) 5. Go out and have a ball...
  15. I would recommend GSAK for anyone who is serious about geocaching no matter what unit they use.
  16. Check this link: http://garminoregon.wikispaces.com/Marine
  17. That was a common problem with the III+. Take the antenna off and tighten up the BNC connector inside the antenna module. That should solve your problem. Don't expect good accuracy tough. It's old technology.
  18. My first suggestion would be for you to upgrade to a Premium Membership. Then you have the both of best worlds. A 550T without a premium membership is like a Ferrari with a Model A engine. Then you set up your routes and PQ's etc. Load them into your new GPS and hit the road...
  19. Raine, Thanks for all your hard work. I'm really looking forward to getting my KML's back. I hope you get a big raise and have many happy birthdays. (without getting older, that is) Oh! Did I say THANK YOU!
  20. KML's are coming back. Thanks to Raine for all his hard work. See: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=227165
  21. Groundspeak discontinued the KML's several months ago. They said only about 300 people used them anyhow. I used them all the time and I suspect thousands did as well. I'd like to see them back, but then I'd like to see Virtuals back as well and they say that will never happen. There are several links in this forum. I just don't have them now.
  22. 2.95 seems fairly stable so far. I've used it for two days and no problems yet. It seems to be better on the batteries as well. 2.94 was a basket case and should never have been released. It cost me two days of my vacation and the loss of quite a few geocaches in four states.
  23. I'd suggest posting your question to the GSAK forum. I'm sure you'd get a quick reply from Clyde or one of gurus there. http://gsak.net/board/
  24. I have both a Colorado 400t and a GPSMAP-60CSx. The 60 is pretty hard to beat, but doesn't have paperless caching. The Colorado does paperless, but eats batteries for lunch. Both are about equal as far as signal reception is concerned. The Colorado is no where near as durable as the 60 and also not as water resistant. All I can say is try both and buy the one that strikes your fancy. Or, like me get both...
