  1. Navigate to this web site and draw your own conclusions: http://garminoregon.wikispaces.com/
  2. There's a big difference between the 400t and the 550t. $509.00 wh/shipping is reasonable for the 550t....
  3. Sure can! Go here and it'll answer all your questions: http://garmincolorado.wikispaces.com/ Ron...
  4. Jump on it with both feet. You can probably find one cheaper though if you look around. I have a 550t and love it. It was an upgrade from Garmin to replace a string of bad Colorado 400t's that I had the misfortune to own. Don't get me wrong, the Colorado 400t is a pretty good unit now. The earlier (bad) ones I owned were long before the bugs were ironed out.
  5. Don't get discouraged. All the questions you have about the Dakota can be easily answered by navigating to the following web site. It operates much the same as its bigger cousins the Colorado and Oregon. http://garmindakota.wikispaces.com/
  6. Fantastic improvement. Still a ways to go, but I really can't complain. Merry Christmas to all...
  7. I agree. There is a site that has all the older firmware available, but I can't remember the link. Maybe this site will help. http://gpsinformation.net/
  8. I've used a 60CSx, Colorado and Oregon with my Mac and have had absolutely no problems what-so-ever. These are Garmin GPS units and Garmin is now Mac friendly. My personal choice for geocaching is the Oregon 550t. A little pricy but it will do everything you want. If you have an Intel Mac you can run GSAK on windows and have the best of both worlds. Check out this link: http://garminoregon.wikispaces.com/
  9. Mr.Moo, Sounds like it might be time to upgrade to that new Oregon you've been wanting. I went for the 550t and have been a happy camper ever since. Merry Christmas... Ron
  10. I'm a Mac owner too! Any of the models you describe should be OK. (don't know about the PN40 with a Mac though) I have a Oregon 550t and love it. I've had the Colorado 400t and wasn't real happy with it because of the battery life and watertightness. I also have a Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx which is a great unit, but not paperless. The only downside to the 550t is the price ($599.99) and I haven't seen it discounted anywhere.
  11. Try Amazon or eBay. I got mine at one of them (can't remember which one) and it works great.
  12. Shouldn't be a problem. I have both a Oregon 550t and a Nuvi 265wt and use the same cable for both. The one exception is the auto adaptor for the Nuvi has the FM receiver for your traffic alerts, but will still work for both.
  13. Set your GPS for decimal degrees. Enter your coordinates as: N35 31.412 W93 06.782 (you don't need the degree symbol). That should solve your problem...
  14. The Garmin serial numbers are generally in the battery compartment. I would assume the eTrex is the same.
  15. Make sure that the o-ring seal is not pushed out of it's grove. The seal only protects the battery compartment and there is a lower o-ring seal that protects the SD card slot. Both of these seals are designed to keep the moisture out of the electronics. If you see water inside make sure that the battery compartment and SD card slot are dry. If there is any moisture in there remove the batteries and blow it dry with a hair drier.
  16. I only have one complaint about the Colorado. It's not really water tight. I've had a few of them before switching to the Oregon and the big problem has been the lack of water integrity. In other words they leak in wet weather. Be sure and keep it in a ziplok bag if it's wet out there...
  17. Check and make sure power save mode is turned off. If you have it in power save mode the accuracy will suffer as the unit limits the number of times the sats are checked to save power.
  18. You should be able to pick one up at your local Radio Shack. You may have to buy a replacement cigar lighter adapter and remove the spring. Take yours with you and try a few. Works every time...
  19. Which 400t do you have? Colorado or Oregon. That was a known problem with the Colorado with one of the beta updates. I believe it was v2.93...
  20. It's been quite a while since I've used my 60CSx and I may be mistaken, but I believe both sets of coordinates can be set to show up on the compass page. Your destination as well as your present location.
  21. I have a 550t and love it. I would never try to advise someone which unit to buy. I'd always be wrong no matter which one I recommended. I'd say to try both and make up your own mind. That way I'll stay out of trouble...
  22. I have the same problem using Safari. Try Firefox, it works fine for me. I have never been able to get it to work with Safari and I've tried on three different Macs. Maybe it works with an older version of Safari, but not Safari 4.
  23. It's quite easy, but you need to hook it up to your PC or Mac. Look for the GPX folder. All your geocache gpx files are stored there. Just delete the ones you no longer want. That's all there is to it. As a Premium Member you have access to pocket queries and if you're not using them I strongly suggest that you do. Pocket Queries are custom geocache queries you can have emailed to you on a daily or weekly basis. They are in a format you can bring along with you on cache hunts on your GPS and/or PDA. You can select a GPX or LOC text file that works with supported software applications. Because of the detailed queries, each search can run only once per day. You have up to 5 pocket queries run every 24 hour period. See detailed instructions on creating your first Pocket Query. Ron~ Thank you so much for your help. I must admit my Oregon & I are still getting to know each other. I don't know how to get to the GPX folder on my PC. I don't feel as if the instruction booklet online has been of much help either. If you don't mind I would love your help with this next step. I truly appreciate you taking the time to help a fellow Geocacher out. Thanks so much! D.C.~ D.C. Glad to help. I see that fegan & g-o cachers have answered your question. If you need any additional help please let me know. I'm a Mac guy and they are slightly different, but for solving your immediate dilemma they are practically identical...
