  1. The Fossil Park is on our list to find & we were talking about that being the 100th! Cool ,thanks! And we figured it would be hard for it to be a DNF!!
  2. I don't think we have even come close to 'bullied' ; look at the question asked to everyone about this topic... and everyone has a right to their thoughts, etc... When someone writes: What do all of you think? then it's fair game for ALL thoughts & ideas, or then we will lose the idea with this forum? Are we to be 'PC' even with this forum? Are to to 'sugar-coat' are replies as not to offend anyone? Oh, we might turn some-one away from cachig & give us a bad name?! A question was asked and The replies have been great! I think those who don't want to pay should go & spend the time, money & effort with THEIR $$$ for a geocaching website and then they can't complain at all.
  3. while searching for a new cache site to hide came upon a complete deer skeleton and ended up making a multi-cache named Boneyard GCYJYV and incorporated some of the bones as part of the cache. Last week while on a cache we found a dead bird with no head on it, still had feathers & everything but no head?!
  4. you had enough money to obtain a GPS unit so what is $30.00? How much did your GPS unit cost?? If you don't pay you don't get to play certain games, seems pretty easy to me. Just because i buy a set of golf clubs does that mean I can walk onto ANY golf course and play for free?? last time I checked I had to pay to play with those clubs. be thankful that there are so many free caches, and be thankful for the people who do pay to keep this site up & going. to me my $3.00 a month is like membership dues to a big, fun club and get to reap the benefits of the club.
  5. all great replies, don't think I have seen extra plastic bags listed for CITO!! you will be surprised even with the most reomote caches the trash you will find, so take a few grocery bags, and help keep things clean! AND... yes... EXTRA Batteries!!! many a time you are gettig close to a cache and... ah.... nothing worse! Really most important thing is: The adventure & fun!! maek ti fun! Enjoy the hunt, it's really not the cache but the challenge to find it!! Enjoy!!
  6. Greetings from NERK! Wanted to join in with all you O-H-I-O cachers. We have been caching about a year & really enjoy it. We live in Newark to be formal about it, anyone near Newark know's it's: Nerk, Ahia! While I'm adding here I added a post about a great 100th find for us in Ohio and no one has responded yet! so I am challenging everyone who reads this to simply reply back with what you think would be a GREAT 100th cache for Team DeGarmo anywhere in O-H-I-O! I'll keep checking back! Great weather today! WOW!! See ya, Team DeGarmo
  7. Team DeGarmo is getting close to our 100th find & would like to make it 'special' for my family. So asking for one of your favorite/special/cool Ohio caches for us to find as our 100th! It does not have to be a 5/5 rating to be special for us, we have two geokids. We love this crazy game & look forward to your replies!! mdegarmo for Team DeGarmo Newark, Ohio
  8. nope, i looked into to this way back, after I found out, hey, i put in a really boring normal name, thinking that i would change it. soo, life goes on with mdegarmo!
  9. I have found some cool cloth patches from different fire depts, military patches, etc... and this adds to something that you would not find everyday. pins, odd coins, and even mini-bungee cords are fun! Normally nothing paper that will get damp, tear, etc.... Oh yea, PEZ (without the candy)!
  10. call me old fashion but we use a spiral bound small notebook & a pencil! we write the waypoint, name, some basic directions, hint, etc.. and then when we find the cache we can record what we found, anything interesting when we log our finds and what we took/left. and we have found this notebook is great to place your GPS on while searching so muggles are thrown off some. So, no PDA, and don't think we are 'wasting' paper either with the notebook.
  11. all look great, would love to see more of these out there vs. the clear w/blue lid design (overused!). good job!
  12. I agree that at some point if a TB has been hangin around a cache for awhile, it's good to pick up and take it 'somewhere' just to get it going again. you may not be able to help 'exactly' with it's mission but even moving it to a new spot can help & someone else with help, etc...
  13. one of my sons old backpacks works great, with separate zip locks for big vs. small items, etc... And speaking of Goodwill: I have bought several used Igloo 1/2 gallon water jugs and converted in to cache containers along with old thermos containers, only 99 cents each! Thank goodness for Goodwill!
  14. Lovey Pigs

    geocoins

if it has a tracking number, then I would really check first to see if activated, etc... I have picked up several wooden 'coins' with team names, etc.. without any tracking numbers and I have traded them out to keep. but if has tracking code on it would guess it is meant to be moved on.
  15. I think part of the fun is to come up with something 'catchy' ot go along with the cache, vs. it's actual location. One of my cache's is near a electrical sub-station up a hillside so: Power Me Up. part of the fun.
  16. "not above but _______" this was a tuff one for me! took 4 caches to figure this one out, wish there easier hints than this!
  17. I thinks it's a great Biodegradable geocache container! The challenge is to find the cache before it returns to the earth! I like it! maybe a have come up with a new Cache category?!
  18. Honestly, to see the smiles & joy on my boy's faces when we find a cache, esp. after a good hunt! that is much better than any McD. toy. (i know my boys will take the McD toy over smiles!).
  19. I have found using old Thermos Lunch Box containers (for soups, drinks) work great, put alittle camo tape on them and it's sturdy, andy very water tight. I have also converted some 1/2 gal. Water jugs for containers, with the same idea with the camo tape. I take the handle off and fill in the holes with gorilla glue and i glue the lid shut if it has a spout. And the great thing about these containers is that every few weeks I go to the local Goodwill store and pick these containers up for 59 cents, 99cents, etc... I have a Lunch Box Thermos that looks like a Campbells soup can that i looking for a perfect spot for & the cache name will be: Mmm, Mmmm, Good Cache! As always, i just do not like the cheap disposable containers that you just know the lids are going to crack, etc... Thanks for thinking about better containers!
  20. OK, all these replies and no mention of: GLOBAL Warming! can't we blame everything on global warming, esp. with GPS units??? Hmmm...
  21. let the addiction begin! once you found some caches in your area, start with a tradtional cache, no multi-caches or micros. and maybe bring a helper or two along, more eyes, more brains (nothing against you in anyway!). And.... have fun with the adventure.
  22. hmm, seems like a cache except for the GLASS container. don't think cache containers are to be glass. Did it have ANY written paper stating ANYTHING about geocaching, web site, etc... maybe it was someone's 'private' cache?? interesting to say the least. thanks for sharing.
  23. 98 jeep grand cherokee and even better a TREK 850 mt. bike! give me those trails & single tracks any day over a grab/dash walmart. Oh, yea some nice Columbia hiking boots to finish off my transportation.
  24. I agree with this being a good question. We are actually Team DeGarmo. I did not know once you set your geo 'name' you could not change it, so mdegarmo is really team degarmo, my wife two boys & me. We all love the geocache's and many a time it is our boys (8 & 61/2 y/o) who will see the cache first before the geoparents. (it' s soo funny how you can put 'geo' in front of anything when dealing with geocaching! geocar, geodog, etc..). and yes, the micros just does not thrill the little ones vs. a regular cache with the 'rare' McD's toys like they just got at lunch before we went goecaching! I think the question had been answered, just wanted to share. thanks
  25. all posts have ben great, maybe one other thing: another set of eyes (or more!). we go out as a family and on many a cache, 3 of us just do NOT see it and the one other person sees it very clearly! Even our 6 y/o geokid has his share of finds! Over time you will develop your 'cache-eyes' and develop your 'cache-sense'. but as always there will be some 'challenges' but I think the more challenging the better, I really do not see as much 'adventure' with a wal-mart pole cache, vs. trailblazing through some woods and figuring things out!
