  1. i have the same unit as you and i went to ebay and found a serial to USB convert cable to use the cable that came with the unit. once you have that really its a simple a a couple clicks to download the waypoints to your unit! look around on ebay (or elsewhere) you can get one for a few $$ and shipping.
  2. earlier this year i wanted to pick up a coin from one of my caches, and there was some snow on the ground and i 'knew' where the cache was, so no GPS (it's MY cache!), and i must have went up/down/around the hillside/woods that it was hid, searching for MY cache, i was laughing inside, i almost was ready to go back home, re-load MY cache to find it, but i tried one more time and found it! good thing i remembered my OWN hints!! LOL. hope this makes you feel better.
  3. we have went all directions with this, and still at times the easy way for us is to have a 60 cents 3x5 notecards with a spiral binding, and copy down the basic cache we need, we have never printed out the whole page, and then once we find the cache, we can write a quick note (with a pencil even!) what we T/L, and any other tidbits. We did this for some of our bigger outings and then it's nice to have a little separate 'notebook' to look at. don't think you need 8 x10.5, 3x5 or 4x6 spiral bound works great. Yes, i did buy a PDA tried it some, it's OK, but at times i think still quicker/easier the 'old fashion' way. And i will recycle these cards at soem point, so not so worried about the tree thing. what about all the emissions from our cars while we are finding these caches?
  4. we will look at the area to see if any possible, but have not let geocaching be the main part of a vacation...yet!
  5. Really, one on my most extreme has been: Obey the Moon GCWRYY Obey The Moon located in London, UK, in the middle of the Thames river, you had to time your hunt with the tides of the Thames, even at low tide, VERY slippery rocks, etc... Very extreme fun, to find a cache & stand in the Thames river in London!
  6. you want to talk EXTREME: this took hours/days to find! I hate these EVIL micros!!
  7. In the school where I teach, the kids are the ones showing the underwear (I will be sooooo glad when the "sagging" craze finally goes away. I am tired of telling people to pull up their pants and even more tired of seeing their underwear when they don't! No worse than walking thru the woman's dept. of any store. Does anyone have a problem with taking their youngsters into the women's departments. Or walking by a Victoria's Secret store
  8. you will shoot BOTH your eyes out!! with one shot. I don't know though, might only be able to hold a couple of 'pebbles' in this slingshot?!
  9. we were hoping for a nice weather day this Saturday for some caches, but looks like SNOW!! we may still get a few in.
  10. OK, I give up, what are you guys talking about? OK, a picture of a lamp post! what is the big deal? Are we talking micro here?? I'll keep looking!
  11. just FYI for future people about: dynex dx-ubdb9 serial to usb controller, i found one on Ebay for around $5.50 total with shipping, new! you may need to search around alittle, but a great price, and it comes with CD/manual. much better than $36.00. got this for my good old E-Trex also.
  12. I know in Ohio that with the weather, all caching slows down during the winter. recently i picked up a TB and yes, i went over the two week rule, but the weather for me did not allow any caching. And.. this TB had already set in a cache for close to 2 months, so i was simply trying to get it going again, and was able to drop it off today. My only other suggestion is that i have even offered to pay for postage for the other person to simply mail the TB or coin back to me and work out the logging details later. I have one coin presently that a cacher picked up in Ohio, went back home to CO. and has had it since May 2007. I have emailed 3-4 times, and taken advice from these forums not to be too mean, and last past week the other cacher finally replied back that his GPS is not working and just alot of bad things going on in his life right now and is truly sorry for having the coin so long. It made me come to realize that it's only a small piece of metal, or some trinket playing some game and if it gets lost or stays with someone, life will go on, and if that coin or TB is soo valuable then maybe should not send it out into this world. Phew, i do hope it works out, march is around the corner!!
  13. Our family is a team of sorts, and at times one of us or part of our family has went out and found caches, and simply counts under our name. so if you want to be a 'team' and then all agree to take credit for the finds, otherwise each person would have an account.
  14. think most have been shared, but i have found some at estate sales, and yard sales. Army surplus is the best for me.
  15. We're on a scavenger hunt, we are on a treasure hunt, works for us.
  16. Anything new?? hey, last post for here was Aug. 2007?!! Happy new year Ohio geo's! what is new going on?? l
  17. hiking sticks for me, while out on my hikes, i look for potential new sticks, and then sand them down, and stain or leave natural. and i have made many for the entire family. Sticks are fine for me, and looks more 'natural' in those pics! sticks.
  18. i have come upon a few, soo soggy logs that has been very hard to sign, so i have left a piece of paper of some sort, even thought it may get soggy also. and there have been a few small containers that the log was literally stuck in the container (empty pill bottle with a small opening) and tried for many minutes to wedge out. What i have done is that i have my camera with me most of the time and on the front of our GPS we have: TEAM DEGARMO on dymo labels and simply take a pic with the cache and our GPS, to show we did find it, even tough did not sign. and then upload the pic with our log. I am not going to drive back 40 miles some where to try again to sign a log. And for me, i have placed several caches out there, and really have not ever checked the actual logs against the web listings, for me its: TRUST, at some point if you want to 'cheat' yourself and that makes you feel better then that is going to happen, I don't have the time to 'patrol' my caches & log entries to 'confirm' every log entry. does anyone really have that much time?? There will always be a few bad eggs out there, but i know it will catch up with them. Trust, play fair & have fun!! enough from me, phew! happy caching!
  19. I added a reply a few days ago & here are several updates for me: 1. after reading last few replies, i just tried again with IE and same old thing: never ending paring going on, yes Norton was on, but as stated earlier, i tried the same with my Norton disabled with out any + change. 2. After reading some other replies I have downloaded Mozila Firefox and when attempting the maps it works great! in fact, overall seems like the mozilla works quicker & better than IE, so overall i am using mozilla for my browser for now. That is my update with ongoing aspect of this fun game we play! cache on my brothers!!
  20. looks like a great site, i am going to sign up, thanks!
  21. In Ohio there are around 6 FTF caches, meant to be fun and yes, give everyone a chance to log that FTF!! please look at these, I set one up in my home town, using the template of the other OH FTF caches. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...eb-98cd6afc2fdc GCTXFK Cleveland GC11NNP Dayton GC13Z4Z Newark (mine) hope this helps
  22. here is a container i made with a loc & loc, using gorilla glue & small river rocks. it took some time to do each side, but turned out well and has been in use for over a year in a cache, hidden within a pile of old concrete type rocks.
  23. wanted to see if anyone has posted about troubles with the geocoin web page that once you get to the page that shows all the local coins in your home area, in the past you could click on a coin and to the right of the map the basic details would come up, cache, etc... for a few months now it appears this feature has been shut down or is it associated with the whole problem with the google maps? it appears to me that the phrase: click on the coin to obtain info has been 'faded' away. Does this feature not exist anymore? if not why have a map showing? lately i have simply plugged in my local ZIP and scroll down to see what coins are around & click on the cache. thanks for any updates on this, or please re-direct me if this has been posted up recently.
  24. PLEASE add me to the list of paid members who want the OLD maps back. I too for several months really have not been able to use the maps, i have read through all these relpies, tried the auto-protect, etc... and even tonight i am getting the 'never-ending': Parsing geocaches with the little arrows chasing each other endlessly! some how i feel i should not have to switch over my entire PC system to view a map, that as of a few months ago was great! NOTE: not sure if somewhere else in this forum but also some a few months i have not been able to click on any of the local geocoins on the geocoin page to bring up the GC info. i click and nothing at all for the GC page & basic info that use to come up when clicked. ANY INFO ON THIS??
