  1. Check to make sure the unit is set to the same format as Groundspeak uses for cache coordinates: Home → Other → Conversions http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=208 B. Thanks For your help but it didnt work. I just tried again in the right conversion and it changed the end of my coords from 054 to 053. This is a known issue with the device; however, since the different between .054 and .053 is only a foot or so and falls well within the given accuracies of the device (3 meters = 9.8), the issue hasn't been corrected and I don't expect it to be. It has been reported and it known. David Magellan Insider That makes sense, and really should be fixed, but I have had times where i plugged a cache in as a waypoint because i didnt have a computer nearby to download it, and i went to go find the cache. I used my phone for driving directions with my c:geo app and when i got to where the cache was supposed to be, my explorist gc said i was about a half mile or mile in the wrong direction. (If i remember correctly it may have been .4 or 1.4, i dont remember). I ended up having to use my phone to find the cache.

  3. I recenty bought a brand new explorist gc from amazon. I was a little confused with the map so i updated to version 2.15. That fixed my confusion but i am now having issues with it. When I enter a waypoint, and then save it, it shows up as a different cooridate as what i entered it (EX: N12 34.567 turns into N12 34.756) It is so frustrating. Also when i leave a screen and go to the next the previous screen stays on the bottom! Should i re-update version 2.15? I dont know what to do. Thanks!
  4. About using your iphone............. I have a Samsung galaxy s2 and i dont have great service where i live but usually where i cache i have fine service. I have been using my phone for geocaching but there have been numerous attempts where i had to give up because my phone was driving me crazy. No matter how much service i had, where i was, my power, It took forever to load, or didnt load. It was so frustrating. I finally decided to buy a gps (magellan explorist gc) It should arrive soon. If you really want to get into geocaching buy a gps. It doesnt have to be expensive, but look at reviews first. But keeping your iphone with you for extra help or for quick park and grabs would be a great idea. That is what i am planning to do. Good Luck!
  5. When you say load maps, do you mean by state, im confused. And i was trying to keep an under 120 dollar price, but thanks for the help!
  6. Thanks for your feedback! I just ordered the Explorist gc and i am so excited!!!!!!!!
  7. The eTrex 10 is a Paperless unit, though it has MANY limitations. I have recently seen a few Explorist GC units. My Garmin brain could not figure out how to use them, but they seemed to have a lot of good features. The eTrex 10 not so much. Follow this link (to another post with a link) to learn more about the eTrex 10 and why I would not but one: Read This Thanks! I thing i am going to get the gc then. It is green also, my favorite color.
  8. So it seems that going "paperless" is not truly an issue. Thanks so much! that really helps!
  9. Thanks. Im leaning toward the explorist even though i dont have a premium membership and cant access all the features. I am still open for all suggestions and comments, in fact, i recommend them. I am hoping to order my first gps tonight or tommorow after using my phone for a half a year.
  10. (sorry if this is in the wrong section) I am deciding between the: Garmin Etrex 10 handheld gps and the Magellan explorist gc gps Opinions of gps owners or anyone for that matter is welcomed. For those of you newbies like me deciding on a new gps with a tight budget these two i found are great. The question is which is better? Thanks
  11. Thanks for the help, the price may be a little steep for me. I'm just wondering but is one able to enter coords directly into a gps? (I have now been using a phone app) Yes, that's one of the most basic functions of any handheld GPS. How much were you looking to spend? 100 more or less. I acctually just got back from geocaching with my phone. It was not fun. It wouldnt load so i just came home on a mission to find a good gps for the best price. I am now looking at the Garmin eTrex H. It has a good price... But i dont really know. I am having trouble looking for a good gps that ist very expensive, but i would be willing to spend more if all the cheaper gpss are not good quality. Thanks for help

  13. The same thing has happened to me before. Here is how you can get around that. Either: 1) Set up a home location I DO THIS 2) Go to google maps and find the location you need. Right click. Click "Directions from here". On the right a strange form of coordinates will be given. Copy this and paste in to geocaching search bar. Have Fun!

  15. Thanks fellow cachers! We should stop this then! Its against the Geocaching rules. They should not be buried.
  16. I use my samsung galaxy phone for geocaching but personally i think a gps has better signals, and is better quality. I am hoping to get one soon. Have Fun!
  17. For micro caches i have heard of them being attatched to fake flowers, leaves, etc. and being buried into the ground with only the plant part sticking out. If this didnt make sense look at this link http://www.cleverhides.com/2012/10/fake-plantgrassflower-geocache.html#.UcEbw_mTjEs . I am aware that geocaches cant be buried so is this alowed? I thought this was a creative idea and if this is alowwed I would like to make one of my own maybe. It would be hard to find . Is this a special exception to the "buried rule".
  18. This cache? Looks like by "key" they mean an encryption key - a way to decode the coordinates for the final stage. So they encrypted the coordinates using this key, and having the same key will let you decrypt the coordinates correctly. Yes, that cache. Im sorry, im still a little bit confused. Will i be looking for a physical cache with a code breaker hint inside, or something else like @AZcachemeister said Reading through the cache page more thoroughly, it is a virtual stage. Meaning there is not a physical container at the location, but something else that will help you get the key. I recommend looking at the related web page. It should help. Thanks so much!

  20. Im confused because in the woods near my house there is a puzzle geocache. (I will not give any info away of the cache)There is 2 stages. One stage is where you have to got to a physical location, find the key, and learn how to apply it/use it/solve puzzle with it. But one problem i dont understand. They key is virtual. How is it virtual if it is in a physical place?
  21. I recently started geocaching and found 31 already! I've been using my sprint samsung galaxy phone with an app but it isnt good for forests and such because the signal bounces around easier. Do you think i should get a GPS? I have a small budget for a GPS at this point. Opinions? If anyone has a cheap but good and in good condition and good for geocaching gps, i would maybe buy it off you. Thank You.
