  1. Credit? You get credit for finding a cache? I need a new truck. How many cache credits will that take?
  2. Maybe it is old age. I still have a few years left in me, but bugs seem to be less of a problem as I get older. Maybe I don't roll in the grass as much. I have gotten a few chiggers and ticks this year, but I have been in some nasty, wet, leafy areas too. I think certain diets may repell bugs too. I just hate to diet.

Absolutely hilarious anecdotes, plus very environmentally sound backcountry practices. A must read. http://img.Groundspeak.com/user/25021_1200.gif I bought the book. I gave it away in one of my caches. It was not funny. Women do not understand turd humor. Ms. Meyer could not write a joke if it fell out of her @ss.

  6. I refuse to pack my poop! I don't want anyone else packing it either.

  8. I bury my poop and burn the paper. I never had to use the crapper while on a geocache. I have a little self control.
  9. I would prefer to see more references to God in my caches and in my Pledges of Allegiances.
  10. We had a guy blow through my area racking up caches. I was a little suspect, but he signed my logbooks. We should not be doubtful of what others have done, but ever aware that we can do better.
  11. I have had problems on overcast days. I have also had overcast days with no problems. I have also found that if I get a good signal on clear flat land and then walk into heavy tree cover/steep ravines, my positioning is relatively stable. If I turn on my gps in the same deep cover, I may never get a position reading. I am no gps expert, but I believe the gps must recieve a large packet of data to 'lock on'. Once the data packet has been downloaded from the satelite(s) the data required to maintain the location signal is much less. My observations are based upon experience, not expertise. I may be wrong.

Now thanking someone for their hardwork when there is no possibility of personal reward is much different and just socially proper when it's deserved. So I say (with nose not brown) THANK YOU JEREMY! Come to think of it I might have a brown nose....do BrownMules have brown noses? _ENJOY THE OUTDOORS_ I'd say you are about neck deep.

  14. I never really got into that brown nosing thing. Maybe that is another reason I hike solo.

  16. I have owned pocket knives since I was a kid. My son owns more than I do. Are there gangs of marauding children with gps units out seeking caches without parental supervision? We are becoming a society of weak kneed hand wringers. The next thing you know the Pledge of Allegiance will be outlawed.
  17. Goretex is pretty effective during in cold weather. It is less effective in hot humid conditions. One of the requirements for a product to carry the goretex logo is that the design and manufacturing of the garment must be inspected and approved by Gore. This levels the playing field for quality, but also increases price. I own three goretex parkas. One from TNF, REI, and Browning. They are all good quality.
  18. quote:Originally posted by sbell111: Its my understanding that the GPSr manufacturers have taken the stance that they need not do any sponsorship of the site to reap the rewards of its success. This type of thinking is the exact opposite of why I decided to become a charter member. Why would you suspect that the gps manufacturers are ignoring this site? They reference this site in their promotions and literature. Do you really think they aren't paying a hefty promotional fee? This site is worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. I doubt there are more than a handful of cacher's who do not know friends who have purchased gps recievers as a direct result of this site. I have three friends who bought receivers just for caching. This site should be self sufficient and very profitable.
  19. quote:Originally posted by Syn: Religious items are illegal items in my eyes. Its fine if people want to have that stuff outside of the game, but it should stay there. I consider it to be commercial as people are trying to convert people to their belief. When I come across a religious item such as a bible I usually change it out for something else or I simply remove it. Illegal? By what rational? Why should we censor caches?
  20. So you are saying that we can rule out the possibility that the cacti induced a screaming and cursing salvo loud enough to wake the dead? The plot thickens...
  21. I vote no. There are plenty of places to cache without creating problems on the highways.
  22. quote:Originally posted by SuperGenius: Now I do beleive the few small pennies for membership is to help support the web site. Just think of th massive amount of space we us posting and logging. Servers lots of them needed. Join nnow it supports the game we all enjoy. I guess I don't know how many pennies a charter membership costs. I assumed this site was subsidized by the gps manufacturers. If it isn't then somebody missed an opportunity.
  23. I found the location of the cache inappropriate. Three feet from a petroglyph seems intrusive. One could make all sorts of assumptions from the post. An investigation is in order!
  24. I still get updates and I don't belong to any charter. What are the benefits of being a charter member? I thought it was just a money making scam.
