I posted a topic explaining the issues occuring today. It isn't completely resolved yet but the backup database is now working through the pocket queries ok now.
Thank you very much, Jeremy - I ran a PQ and it seems that your change did the trick as well to my original problem. I just couldn't reply earlier as the forum was down...

I do handle it this way: If I found a cache, I log it as found. If I was just there, but not able to search (muggles etc.) I don't log anything. If I was there and searched but couldn't find it for whatever reason, I log an DNF. If I was there several tims but couldn't find it, I might log another note and write the author asking for a hint.
So once I was looking for an Traditional, being at the spot the first time. Looking around but found nothing. Didn't want to log as DNF just because of running out of ideas where it might have been hidden and confirming that I'm a newbie. Thus I didn't log yet because I still was curious and wanted to try again within the next days. The second time I couldn't search due to muggles, so I didn't log anything as well. Third time I searched even longer, couldn't find it and logged an DNF. Also emailed the author for a hint and he answered as a puzzle which I had to think about. After this hint (telling me that I should act like one person which is described in a well known fairy-tale) I had to slap myself, lol. One of the persons in that fairy story was always looking up. And I was searching at the ground. I remembered, when I was there for the very first time, I saw a small birdhouse and at that time a bird was actually sitting and chirping at it's roof. So I didn't mind taking a second look at this birdhouse. I wrote the owner back, that I've seen this birdhouse but didn't want to disturb the birds as they might breed. He wrote back that they won't be able to do so. Being there the fourth time I was just looking for the birdhouse. Well it was a fake one but looking real. Inside I found the cache and afterwards logged my find.
The only exception logging a find without to fulfill the requirements of the owner was a virtual cache abroad (about 2000 miles away from home) near the airport of that area. At that time I was looking for a Traditional and for the Virtual (a 10 miles hike). As I was hiking I left all my baggage at the airport and just taking a GC and my GPS with me. I actually found both places, signed the logbook at the tradi, exchanged GC's and logged both as found. When I came back to the airport and looked at the website to log my finds, I became aware that I should have taken a picture for the virtual. But I couldn't do so, as I had to leave the area to continue my trip. But I think the owner agreed because he was able to see that I was there at that time as I also logged the Traditional and exchanged things there which proved my visit somehow.
So my conclusion is: If there is a cache with a logbook, I will only log a "Found it" when I was able to sign the logbook - or, if this is not possible (maybe the pen is broken and I haven't one with me) to describe my "Find" in details by writing the owner in order not to spoil the fun for others but proving that I had it in my hands. If the cache doesn't contain a logbook (like for virtuals), I log the "Found it" by proving the owner that I was there (making a picture, describing details which cannot be known without being there etc.)
And the same will go for my cache(s). If the cacher won't be able to prove that he or she has been found my cache (there are several possibilities, like the color of the lid, the color of the logbook or something else, a log in the logbook of course), I will delete "Found it" logs after trying to contact him.

Regarding "TPTB". What does this mean? I never heard it before and as I'm German I don't have any clue about. Also I'd like to know what negative manner it might be have. I'm curious. Would be great if someone can enlighten my darkness.

I am trying to set up my GSAK software. I have entered several residences as waypoints, family homes, etc. and want to use the house icon in the type field. But GSAK lists only about a dozen of different types, all having to do with different types of caches. How do I set up other icons, i.e. house, park, airport, etc.? There does appear to a way to do it, and I have fiddled around with it but with no luck.
Well, it depends...
If you mean the icons which are used in GSAK itself, you probably have to stick with them. GSAK is for Geocaching - so the author of GSAK is using just those icons. If you need to change the icons within GSAK, in my opinion you can only request this for a future version of GSAK and the author will have to decide if he will include that functionality.
However if you mean the icons in your GPS receiver, it depends on the model you are using. Just have a look at the GSAK help file and search for custom icons which can be used by creating an textfile with your configuration. Depending on the device the file will have to be named "GarminOther.txt" or "MagellanOther.txt". If you have a Garmin, want to use custom icons for it and don't know how to do it, just let me know. I did setup my Garmin configuration, my etrex device and when I now look at the map at my etrex it shows every cache with the correct type icon. Also all other kinds of icons are possible if they are supported and installed by/at the device.

Recently generated PQs don't important correctly into GSAK.
Well, you might have run into the same problem, which is definately not a problem of GSAK as further examination of the delivered GPX files revealed in other cases.
As it is not a problem related to my account (also others do have it according to the posts above) I created an support request at Groundspeak regarding the geocaching.com website as there is no specific subject to pocket queries available. Hopefully they will look into it on Monday. As soon as I'll get news I'll let you know.

Hi all,
I just noticed a problem of my pocket queries and I'm wondering if someone else does have the same poor result.
Just one note in the beginning: Till last week it was working as expected. I just noticed the problem yesterday. I normally use pocket queries together with GSAK to keep caches I'm interested in actual.
Whats happening:
I've made a query generating a list of all caches I already found. It acts nearly as the predefined "My finds" but with the difference that "My finds" shows only my logs together with the cachedescription but my personal generated query shows the actual logs (the last 4 most current logs).
Yesterday I found and logged 4 new caches as "Found it" at the website.
Afterwards I ran my query to make me an GPX file. It contained the caches I've found, but didn't contain my but older cachelogs. So I thought of running it today again - same result, my finds weren't in the logs. Thus I checked again and found the following strange issue:
- If I run the "preview" of the query which shows the result only at the web but does not generate the files, it shows all caches that I've found. Clicking then on the cache links I can see my "found it" logs for the four newly found caches. Also my "statistics" icon at the "My account" page reflects the correct number of caches that I've found.
- I then again ran the query to generate the GPX file and examined it. It also contains the correct number of caches I've found, but the log data is "older.
In this actual case I found the caches:
GCGF6A, GCHAWA,GCWCT8 and GCHK25 and wrote a log on 07/15/06
I did now examining the data in the GPX file manually using a text editor to be sure to rule out GSAK as problems cause.
The query itself ran and generated the GPX file on 7/16/06 and it shows the following last found data:
GCGF6A -> 07/01/06
GCHAWA -> 06/17/06
GCWCT8 -> 07/12/06
GCHK25 -> 07/12/06
Might it be that the logdata for the website is on one server / database and the data which is used for generating the GPX files is taken from another server and those both servers are currenly not synchronized anymore? How this can be fixed?

I had the same problem as you, choosing the best device for my needs but keeping the price low. Finally I got the vista cx. And I love it.
As you wrote you are thinking about:
- gpsmap60c
- vista c
- legend cx
In this case I would go for the vista...but the cx version. It uses sd cards (I'm using a 1gb card) so plenty of memory. Compared to the legend it got a compass - so you can also do bearing to a direction etc...
It doesn't have a sirfIII chipset - so it can only get data from up to 12 satellites at one time (instead of 16 if I remember correctly) and is a bit slower than a sirfIII but I think this is marginal compared to the price difference to the the compared to the 76csx and its price.

Try GPSBabel from http://sourceforge.net/projects/gpsbabel
I mostly use it running the "GPSBabelGUI.EXE", converting the geocaching.loc files to either Garmin Mapsource *.GDB or Garmin Mapsource *.MPS format which you can open in the actual Mapsource version.
Using GPSBABELGUI.EXE there is a checkbox named <Ignore "short" names> which you can check before clicking the Process button. If you don't use the checkbox, you'll get the GCxxxxx waypoint names, if you use it, you'll get the long names.
However I noticed that the long names work only when exporting to *.MPS - probably a bug in the current 1.2.7 version of gpsbabel. But what ever name you choose, the correct "long" name is stored in the "comment" of the waypoint in Mapsource. So you can see it in Mapsource and also on your device.
Using the conversion into *.GDB format in mapsource on your PC you even have the URL of the cache in the properties of the "waypoint". Clicking it your browser will open the respective cache page at geocaching.com.

You may have now used your two unlocks on your original coupon code. If you haven't already you should call Garmin customer support and get them to take your first unlock off you records so you can still unlock an a different unit later if you want.
You can do that? I mean for free?It depends on the specific map. There are some with 2 unlocking codes, some with only one code and also some which don't have an unlocking code (which you can use probably as often as you want).

For loc-file translation I recommend GPSBabel ( http://www.gpsbabel.org/ ) It converts from and into nearly any format. You can use it as commandline tool or just run the GUI.
I use it in the following way:
- Select several caches and download the GEOCACHING.LOC file containing them.
- Run GPSBabelGUI.EXE, select the input file (the locfile you downloaded) and its format "Geocaching.com loc", as output type select "garmin gdb"
- press "use default filename"
- press "process"
- press "exit"
Now you will have an file in the same directory named the same way "GEOCACHING.GDB" which you can opn in Mapsource (which comes with your garmin device) and transfer it to your device.
In Mapsource you will see the waypoints by its names (f. ex GC....) and if you go into the properties of one of them, in the "comment line" you see the title of the cache and can also click a button which opens your browser and redirects to the cache on GC.COM

Pocket Query Trouble - Can Only Make One Every 7 Days?

You can run 5 a day. But those you want to run, you will have to create first. Click at the "Create a new query" button and fill out the form. After filling out and hitting "submit information" go back to the list. You can have several, I think 30 or 40 of such queries but only 5 can run at a day. You will get an error if you select more than 5 for the same day.
There is one exception: There is a predefined "My finds" query which you can create just to run at the time when you click the "Add to queue" button. This special query which is just collecting the data from the caches which you found already is completely separat to the other queries. So even if you have already running 5 queries at a day, you might add this one to the queue for this day. But this "My finds" query can run only once within a week. The main difference between a "normal" query you might create and the "my finds" query is the count of possible caches. While a normal query might be created to maximal show up 500 caches within, this query will show up all of your found caches. So if you already found - lets say 1024 caches, you click that button and you will get the complete list. If you would create your custom queries, you would need 3 queries to achieve the same result (500+500+24).
