  1. After spending quite a bit of time with a handheld GPSr doing waypoint averaging to ensure coords are accurate, then newby with only a handful of finds says in his Found it log that the coords are off. Alright, it really doesn't irk me, but I find it amusing.
  2. A variety of cache types, not all trads or puzzles. Defintely favorite points earned.
  3. I usually use my Garmin GPSr, but occassionally I will pull out my phone and alternate between apps. Geooh Live has an interesting feature that when you navigate to a cache, depending on how you tilt your phone, you can see the map only, a compass and a map, or just the compass. As you tilt, one slowly fades in while the other washes out.
  4. Here is one of my examples -- look at GC78HE2, W 91 Offset. It is as simple of an offset cache that you will find.
  5. https://project-gc.com/qa/, but not nearly as widely used as GC's forums.
  6. What is the source of the coordinates you list? From the GC website for a geocache?
  7. Although the Mary Hyde's Treasure promotion is over, the Friend League function has remained as a feature to compete weekly with geocaching friends. A new competition starts each week. See the screenshot below. Note that the explanation on the right below the clock no longer makes mention of the 6-week Mary Hyde promotion. So far this week, I am in 4th place among my 20+ friends. Although it has remained ongoing for months now, what is meaningless is the total league score at the top. That part had meaning during the promotion, but not now.
  8. Although I agree with you and @niraD, I think he is wanting an extra element (points for caches published) in the still ongoing weekly competition with your friends.
  9. Not statistically insignificant or alone at all! The same can be said for most any CITO participant that their total trash clean up far outweighs all their placed caches combined. The same can also be said for many cachers who have never participated in a CITO event, but still practice CITO principles.
  10. The notification sound on my phone (Google Pixel 2) is just the default, what sound to me as a "bling." But since I have a separate geocaching email account, I set up the notification sound as some metallic "klink." When I get blings, the email can wait, but when I hear the klink, I immediately take a look.
  11. I just had a lot of fun teaming up with @Max and 99 with their unknown cache in Oklahoma and my multi-cache in Utah. My cache, Utah and Oklahoma Teamwork, GC7P829, just received a couple Found it logs, despite the fact that I didn't know my first stage was destroyed because an abandoned gas station was torn down after I placed the cache but before it was published. A local cacher friend pointed it out within minutes of publishing. I was headed out of town and had to disable it. Then upon my return I had to quickly figure out an alternative first stage. Total down time was just a few hours. The whole experience was fun and my partner was excellent to work with. I would like to create a couple more. Anybody from another US state or Canadian province want to team up?
  12. While viewing the cache on the app, click on Trackables. Then click on "yours." You are right - the app is confusing. You would think "yours" means trackables you own -- but in this case, it means trackables in your possession. From here you can log the trackable.
  13. It must be working now, at least with the OLD logging experience. Before logging just a few moments ago, I had 308 total points (with 98 remaining) and 4 more until next point. After logging and giving a point at the same time I had 308 total points (with 97 remaining) and only 3 more untile next point. I got my 0.1 point credit. I will have to remember to try again with the NEW logging experience next time I want to give a point to see if it works. Since @Isonzo Karst tried last Saturday, also using the OLD logging experience, and now, it must have been fixed. Can anyone else confirm?
  14. Since you are a premium member, you can get can download a My Finds pocket query and then use a third party application like GSAK to view the pocket query on a map. See my examples:
  15. If you don't have tweezers or if the pens and sticks are too fat, then an unbent paper clip works incredible magic.
  16. This reported bug has been confirmed by a few, myself included. I'm curious if anyone from GS has seen this thread and added the issue to the list of to-do's?
  17. Really not a bug. Use of the mobile app (official or 3rd party) doesn't require logging in to the website. Once I learned that, I stopped saying things like "cache owner has been inactive for 48 months" in my NA logs. Now I say "cache owner has not logged into website for 48 months," just in the unlikely case that they are actually active and monitoring their caches on their smartphone. But I will also include something like "has not placed a cache for 72 months and has not posted a Found it log for 63 months" which makes the has-not-logged-in/inactive comment more credible.
  18. I don't know that anybody outside of the geocaching community calls them bison tubes, but just ask for a metal pill case or tube at the drug store.
  19. Seems to me to be an outdated browser issue if all the elements of a webpage don't show.
  20. Which is one reason why many people commented in the recent cache quality threads that Needs maintenance should be changed to Needs cache owner attention and Needs archived should be changed to Needs reviewer attention.
  21. Agreed. The TB hotel owners sometimes place rules on taking trackables, such as "if you take one only if you leave one." Such rules that restrict trackable movement are intended to keep trackables in place so to attract other cachers to their cache. I understand the intent, but such restrictions make the TB hotel into a TB prison and are contrary to the wishes of the TB owners. Feel free to completely ignore such restrictions. My attitude is that instead of selfishly taking all the TBs for my self, I am actually freeing the TBs from the prison. There are lots of thread on point about TB prisons.
