  1. Well, guess what I heard today from the cheesers? It just shows that you can't have your cupcake and eat it too.
  2. I'm not so sure about Magellan, Chevy, or Jehovah...but the other two are probably good reasons for his behaviour.
  3. Ham radio operators have something similar called "Silent Key". I was thinking that geocachers could come up with an appropriate title. Geocaching is a much younger organization, and as such, is a long way off from filling up such a thread. We've had many "geocides", but that's a totally different matter.
  4. I think we've had this discussion before. Nobody's system is correct. That this is basically an American site should clue people on what is used. The use of UTC for date and time is used in the radio world, I have no problem with it. Some scientific communities use the Julian date. As for the metric system, it's not all that great. You may argue that.....and if you do, good luck.
  5. You could've fooled me. I hear that you folks have a lot of trees. One example: our military = your militree.

Are you trying to say that if I bothered to search for this topic that I might find oodles of good reading stuff?
  7. Ah, another good one to go along with "tough nuts", "hairless rats", "cunning linguist",etc. Back to the topic: I think the color scheme looks ok. People will get used to it and gripe whenever it gets changed again. That's human nature. Yes, I remember the old computer print outs, mainly they took up a lot of space. As a kid, I went to grade school in Chicago. They had blackboards that were black. When I moved to Phoenix, they had the new-fangled "green" blackboards. Even at that young age I didn't like the change....that is until I looked at the old type..
  8. Jake and Elwood, settle down. You're just p.o.'d because a mod was a little short with you. They're human like everyone else in here. They may have just come from another thread where they had to take the usual guff. I can't imagine having to read all these threads. As for problems with logging caches, that's been discussed many times. When the people here say that it isn't necessarily about money, believe them. Do some searching in the GC.com Web Site forum. There's a lot of tech jargon there dealing with these problems. It tends to bore me, but you might find some answers. The least it can do is make you better informed when asking a question.
  9. I got the same message when entering that number. No, I didn't find that cache, just curious. I entered gsk334 and gsk336. Both were hidden 7/25/04, one in Texas and the other in Ohio, and they have finds. If the approver has no answer, maybe it's a glitch and can be answered in the GC.com web site forum.
  10. Where's Sparky? His sig line alone would add fuel to this. edit: Sparky hasn't posted since Aug 30, here's part of his sig line Give a man a match, and he'll stay warm for a day. Set a man on fire, and he'll stay warm for the rest of his life.
  11. That's nice to know, I would've thought gravity was the reason.
  12. It's not what you blow, but wh... Anyway, we may have lost our AS, but we've still got our PP. I'll bet this gets locked as soon as posts are counted in the OT.
  13. Wow! So this is what the OT forum is like? We lost AS, but we now have PP.
  14. Are we allowed to read this without paying?
  15. I'm trying not to picture that log, but when ya gotta go....ya gotta go.
  16. Thanks, it's been awhile since we've had a little "flame war" in here. Can we all agree that "assault matches" should be banned? I didn't think so. Btw, the geocaching term for feces is doot.
  17. "I Like Ike" was one of the all time best slogans. I once said that if the Bush people came out with "I Like Bush" that I'd vote for him. Not to worry....neither will happen.
  18. QUOTE (Two Geeks and a GPS @ Aug 31 2004, 08:16 PM) What does "bumping" mean? Sarcasm If you would like to continue this thread please do so in the Off Topic forum. Recently, the above sentence has been used by one or more mods. This has almost always been directed towards someone with "geocacher" under their avatar. That, my friend, is sarcasm. I copied the above from another thread. Actually it might seem like sarcasm or rudeness, but I think the mods have orders to give this reply. Don't expect them to admit to this, and I can't blame them. As for the "O.T." forum, be careful of what you wish for. Remember the Abject Silliness thread? It's probably worth the $3 not to see it. There may come a time when access to any forums or geocaching will be denied without some sort of fee. Hey, it was fun while it lasted!
  19. Oops!....forgot about that one. I'll concede that GPS has rendered obsolete the practice of painting an "X" on the side of your boat in order to mark one's favorite fishing spot.
  20. I thought you would enjoy this, but it wasn't my only reason for bumping it. New cache hunters might like seeing the progression. Notice how as one gets older time seems to rush by? Geocaching kind of reverses this, two years ago seems like the "good old days".
  21. Do a search in this forum with the word 'scary'. You'll find two pages of material, including Halloween caches.
  22. Do some searching in the benchmark forum and you will find that many coordinates for benchmarks are not close. Surveyors are usually only interested in accuracy that works in the real world. This can mean will it hold up in a court of law and can it pass verification by other surveyors. Claims of GPS accuracy also bug me. This is the Earth that we're talking about here, not a precision ground ball bearing, and even it is subject to heat, etc. When I hear of 2cm GPS accuracy, I laugh. What happens to that accuracy when my dog buries a bone in the yard? You'll hear all kinds of proof about how accurate the GPS is. I've also heard that some computer has solved Pi to 2 zillion places. If you question any of this, "You just don't get it". We can talk about fingerprint accuracy and the 'wind chill' factor, they have both recently come into question. The next one is DNA.
  23. If by that you mean a small commode, then a 5 gal. bucket would certainly work.
  24. Dang it all, Jed! Just when I thought I had another excuse for NOT hiring one of them DOMESTICS.
