  2. It was free Slurpee day at 7-11. I figured Dr. Evil might be up to something... All of the "Free" cups had disappeared! I was on the case.

I don't think that was him...

Proud to report that I am now an official Secret Agent. (Wait, did I just give myself away?!?!? I hope there's a training manual somewhere... )

    Thanks GSA!

  3. Since we are all being honest here can anyone honestly say that had the coin had its current name and icon would you still think anything sexual about the coin.

Probably not, because the design is so ugly, I wouldn't have given it a second thought. It was only on the second thought that I saw it.

  4. Have no fear, coins return to the living all of the time. I was doing some maintenance on one of my caches on Monday and found an unlogged geocoin in it. I got around to logging it yesterday, and it turns out it had been missing since April of 2007. The owner had even put out a paper proxy of it, and now, there's a real coin back in circulation.

    Happy days for everyone!

I've got a few of my Russian Red Big Beans for trading. If anyone is interested, please email me. My trade list is way out of date, so feel free to make an offer. (i'm not terribly interested in sending mail overseas right now, just fyi, but if you can tempt me, go ahead.)

Also willing to do a cache trade (I drop a coin with a goal to get to you, you drop a coin with a goal to get to me.)

    Let me know.

  8. Although several people were very close with their answers, moscow32 is the first to get ALL changes correct!

    puzzles026cr-modified.jpg

The feet counted as one change, the wing toucan's wing also one change. But the one most people missed was the breast feathers on the bird in the upper left - the stitching is reversed on the lower pic.

    Congrats, moscow32!

I will have to scan some more puzzles so more fun & games tomorrow evening.

Thanks for the cointest! This was really fun. I kept getting beaten to the punch on the other puzzles. I was stuck at 11 for a while, but it was actually the eye having shifted that was holding me up.

  9. I am very new to this hobby ( about 10 finds so far). I found a 3.5 difficulty cache 2 days ago. But I had to use the hint. It was not straight forward. I had to figure out what the hint meant. I actually went and looked for 2 other caches after giving up on the 3.5. While I was hunting for the others I could not get the hint out of my mind. Then it hit me like a ton of bricks and I went back and found it right away. Now I am wondering if I should consider the find a little less impressive because I used the hint. What are your opinions on this? Are the harder caches supposed to have a tricky hint or it just a purest thing to not use them. Thanks.

I feel that hints are especially good to avoid damage to the area around ground zero. I have seen evidence of very aggressive searching where the owner didn't supply a hint for a small, well hidden cache. No shame in using a hint, I do all the time.

I concur! Damage to the area at GZ should be avoided. We should be concerned about the area. A well thought out hint can definately avoid damage to the environment.

My paperless system automatically decrypts the hints for me, and if the hunt is in a sensitive area, I will often refer to the hint (when one is given).

  10. By the way, how about that third round? I am good to go! Anyone care to set this up? (If not, I'd be happy to take it on as well.)

    Katja

Sounds good, I second your nomination of you if no one else wants to do it.

I know I had talked about doing one, but "Life Came at Me Fast", so I haven't been able to spare the attention to a math trade. But I'm willing to be a resource for anyone who wants to run the next one.

  11. Today I received the Shell & Pearl geocoin club coin+pin, and the Happy New Year 2008 coin, so I think I've received everything now!

Thanks everyone. I'm ready for round 3 too. Wasn't someone planning it for Feb 29th?

    Katja

    Edited to add:

Oops, I cheered too soon. Looks like I am still waiting for 1 final coin: Kingfisher Team from Los Muertos. A bit weird, since it 'only' has to come from Germany. The KingFisher Team are friends of mine and it would be about time I got their coin, so I hope nothing went awry in the mail.

I also haven't received my coin from Los Muertos. I haven't really worried because it is coming from overseas, but if someone "local" hasn't received one yet, then I might start worrying. Has anyone heard anything from Los Muertos?

I was going to do one for Feb 29, but I ended up moving instead. Maybe mid-March.

  12. I've got some questions regarding Translucent, Glitter and Glow enamels for geocoins:

    1. Translucents: Is there a translucent enamel that correlates to most other available colors or is there a limited number of colors?

    2. Glows: Has any coins been made with the orange glow enamel (Glow # 7 on Landsharkz chart)? Is it a nice orange or kind of "muddy"?

    3. Glows: Are the glow enamels shown on Landsharkz chart all of the glow enamel possibilities?

    4. When using translucent, glitters and glow enamels do they change the "feel" of a coin if previous enamels used on a coin were imitation hard enamels (smooth filled in and flush with the uppermost serface) or can you get the imitation hard enamel finish with translucents, glitters and glows?

    5. Are there any "Pearlized" or "Iridescent" enamels? :)

Thanks for any help with these questions! :o

Related to your questions 2 and 4 above:

    Clearingthecamera194.jpg

The fish on the bottom right is Glow#7. To me, it feels faded, but I really like it. And boy does it glow!

The top two fish are glitter and translucent, and to me, they "feel" the same as the imitation hard enamel coin (bottom left), as does the glow. The enamels fill in smooth and flush.

    Hope that helps-

  13. Would it be just easier to have 2 seperate columns on the trading sheet? One column could be for US trades and the other would be for international trades. When you list your coins just check off which areas you are willing to ship that particular coin to. Everyone would just have to make sure that the coins they put in their want list are actually available for shipping to their country. This way you can still offer your coin to either if that's what you want instead of just offering to one or the other.

That's one idea I had. The difficulty I kept coming to was ensuring that the domestic trades only went to domestic lists.

I also see a potential issue with fairness. Imagine if I purposefully offered all of my coins only for the Domestic trade, but requested all coins from the international side. Because of the way the software makes the circle trades, I would likely receive at least some of my requests. Then I am paying significantly less to receive the international trades because I am only shipping in the US/Canada.

I'm still pondering the logistics of both.

  14. If we were to do this again, would anyone be opposed if we did a Domestic (US and Canada) trade in one thread and an International Trade (US, Canada and everyone else) in another at the same time?

It would be slightly more work, and you would not be able to offer the same coins in each trade, but I've heard through the grapevine that some people would like to participate, but can't afford the shipping overseas part.

  15. Hi. I received my mission today (or at least, I presume it was my mission, as I'm not expecting anything else in the mail), but I'm not going to open it until I get my mission mailed. I'll let you know when that happens.

I've been waiting on a coin so that I can mail out my mission, which I finally decided isn't going to get here. My profuse apologies to my mission recipient for the delay, and for the fact that the cool coin I was waiting on won't be in your package. It'll still be worth it, I promise!

    Cheers-

I finally put my package in the mail last night, priority, so it should be there by Valentine's Day. Sorry for the delay, I hope you get some of your heart's desire out of it, secret valentine person.

I also opened a very nice package from TokenCollector, which had a Raspberry Geojelly, a Pirate Token, and Geocache America coin, which I have really really wanted. Also some transit tokens and a whole bunch of chocolate. Unfortunately, my pictures are at home, and I am not, so I'll post up some pics when I return. Thanks so much TokenCollector!

    Cheers-
