  1. I had to bribe this guy with another french fry to make him pose like this! I walk the Maze of Moments, but everywhere I turn to, begins a new beginning, but never finds a finish... -Enya, Anywhere Is
  2. Royal Oak. It's not that far away, but when a new cache popps up just a few miles away from where I am now... I walk the Maze of Moments, but everywhere I turn to, begins a new beginning, but never finds a finish... -Enya, Anywhere Is
  3. And *JUST* when I thought I'd finish up cachin' for the season! Major dilemma! Anyone have ideas how I can convince my husband that I should go looking for this one before we move out of Novi late this/early next month!? I can picture it now... both families up here helping us move stuff, and I'm out looking for this one!!! BTW, what are the hours of this park? Mebbe I can catch enough light to do it in stages after work this week.... claim I'm 'working late'... 4. My avitar is a photo I took while on vacation in 2001, up in Mackinaw City. The squirrel pictured is sitting on top of a trash container in the park by the lighthouse. I can't resist a good shot of a squirrel, and I got a laugh out of the fact that he was just sitting there, munching away on a french fry someone had left behind. There's a bigger pict of him on my caching page. When I get around to being a paid member, I'm thinking about making my 'title' "Want Fries With That?" 5. Love all the cool sigs. Here's mine, for what it's worth.... I walk the Maze of Moments, but everywhere I turn to, begins a new beginning, but never finds a finish... -Enya, Anywhere Is
  6. Taking into consideration I never really played with Barbies when I was a kid, I agree that a lot of 'boy' stuff would be appreciated by girls as well. Here's a few ideas, based on what I liked as a kid: plastic parachute people (some places have animals/kid figures instead of army guys if you want to go more gender-neutral) toy gliders- I loved balsawood ones with rubberbands that made them go farther. I also liked the cheap foam gliders. You can even find foam gliders that look like butterflies. Popping 'eye' toys- the things you turn inside out and place on a table and watch them jump. Great way for both boys and girls to annoy the heck out of parents. I've seen barrel-of-monkey keychains, complete with 10 monkeys. Might be cool for older 'kids' as well. a classic: silly putty I've seen these at orientaltrading.com, don't know how well they work, but appears to be a cool idea: Make your Own 1" rubber ball kits. Makes 2 balls, they have 12 kits for about $6, I think. Another classic: cool looking toy balls of any type. Small packages of goop/gak/slime... Yet another classic: cool-looking tops I've always liked those plastic Snoopy figurines you get on boxes of candy... Toy whistles/train whistles/pretty much *anything* that makes noise little brainteaser metal puzzles cool looking pens/pencils (don't have to be 'girly') I walk the Maze of Moments, but everywhere I turn to, begins a new beginning, but never finds a finish..
  7. dogsoldier ... Hmm... maybe I should have stated 'inexpensive' trinkets.... I tried to avoid ones that seemed too cheap/cheasy. Besides, the gliders and pop-up toys I'd use pretty much as take nothing, left small toy. I'm running out teany beanies (yes, still in original bag) that I'll often leave even if I take nothing. I figure some kid might get a kick out of them. I loved those little pop-up things and toy gliders when I was a kid. To each his/her own.... (and no offence taken) I walk the Maze of Moments, but everywhere I turn to, begins a new beginning, but never finds a finish..
  8. First off, I'm interested to know where others stock up on trinkets, aside from the Dollar Store. Does anyone know of any places to order goodies similar to the Oriental Trading Company? (I've looked, but couldn't finsd anywhere else with the diversity of cheap interesting cache trinkets) When visiting my sister a few weeks back, she showed me a catalog for the Oriental Trading Company (www.orientaltrading.com ), which has lots of cheap but interesting toys/etc that would make great trinkets. I just recieved my order, and am overall pleased with it. I got a gross of little pop-up 'eyes' for about $4 (flip them inside out, place on a table, and they'll jump), 6 dozen mini foam gliders for about $7, a dozen wire puzzles ($6), and a dozen of the chineese 'health ball' keychains ($12)(2 of which didn't work well, but at a buck each... I called the company and they're sending me a gift certificate good twards my next order that more than makes up for the value of the 2 that don't work). Shipping and handling was about $10. The 'pop-up eyes' and mini gliders I figure on placing a few in caches that need a bit of help, or when there's nothing I want to take. The wire puzzles and health balls are for the better trades. They also have 2 dozen AA batteries for $2.50. Can't verify how good/long those would last, since I forgot to order them, but as cache trinkets they might work quite nicely. Anyone else have any places for quantity cheap (but nice) trinkets they'd like to recommend? I walk the Maze of Moments, but everywhere I turn to, begins a new beginning, but never finds a finish..
  9. I usually remove junk or inappropriate stuff from a cache, and leave some good stuff. Even in my less generous moods when I take nothing I'll alwyas leave *something* that *someone* might like, even if it's cheap/cheasy (but always in good condition). Sometimes I find myself unloading several goodies to better a cache. I can't help it, for some reason. And I always put the stuff in mini ziptop bags (that I got a while back at a craft store, about 100 for $2.), unless it's already waterproof on it's own. This might slow down a bit when I run out of teeny beanies/other interesting stuff around the house I don't want/need anymore. But for now, I enjoy leaving nice little booty nuggets, and am interested to see who picks up what that I left. 10. The 1st item I took was Clatmandu's 100 Rupee bill from his Lunch Break cache. Left a booklet on container gardening and some scrapbooking stickers. After holding onto it for a while, placed it in a cache by the Mission Point lighthouse when we were on vacation. Scanned it in before I dropped it off, so I still have a picture of it I walk the Maze of Moments, but everywhere I turn to, begins a new beginning, but never finds a finish..

  12. I don't know if deleting the log will put it back in your posession, but.. E-mail the owner for the tag ID before you delete the log- if that happened to one of my bugs, I wouldn't mind keeping a log of the event cache (since the bug WAS there, and it's part of the bug's history), and then you could 'pick it up' and 'move' it to the physical one. 13. Personally, I like my New Balance hiking shoes. We have a NB store over near us, and every now and then they'll have a great sale. Picked up my last 2 pairs for around $40 ea. I use them for everyday as well as outdoor activities, they last quite a while, considering how I usually abuse my footwear. A few months back I bought a pair of hiking shoes at the North Face for $25, but they don't have nearly as nice a fit. Right now they're lost somewhere in our apartment, and I'm not in too big of a rush to find them. It really depends on what people like personally, and what condition they're in. When I was in college I hiked the canyon twice in 1 summer, with a pair of (I think it was) Nike hiking shoes. I've tried on stuff with more ankle support, but haven't found anything that I like, yet. IMHO, if you look where you're going you'll probably be ok without boots. 14. Cute! But I think these guys have you beat on going 'overboard' with Locutus of Borg- though technically he's a cache and not a travel bug: http://home.att.net/~My_Space/locutus/locutus.html I walk the Maze of Moments, but everywhere I turn to, begins a new beginning, but never finds a finish..
  15. If it's a really long clue, I'll use the cheater and print it out that way, and try to keep from looking at that part of the page. (I'd hate to decipher a long one in the field and find out it was detailed instructions on where to park and to bring a picnic basket/camera/binoculars and enjoy the park, etc) If it's a fairly short clue I won't decrypt unless I need it in the field. the definitions of short and long sometimes change depending on what mood I'm in... 16. I'm not trying to start a flame war; I appreciate the fact that there are people volunteering to go over caches for approval; I know you're probably over worked and under-appreciated, and there's a flood of new caches constantly comming in. BUT On the 5th a cache in MI was approved, and listed amoung the original contents were 'a small assortment of fireworks'. I immeadately left a note that it should be archived, at least until the fireworks were removed (and apparently they have, or at least they're no longer listed in the original contents). On the 6th, a virtual was approved, and from the 'clue' it appears to lead you to a restaraunt where you have to perform some feat of eating to get your name on a wall. I marked this one for archiving because it sounded a bit commercial. You don't need to perform this feat to claim the cache, but you do have to enter the establishment and inquire about it. From the general feeling I get reading the boards, IMHO this IS too commercial. Not to mention the coordinates show it's in the middle of the Atlantic. Maybe it's just a freak occurance that these 2 were overlooked, but I wonder how often mistakes are made. Are more volunteers needed to ensure proper time and care is made when the caches are approved? Or should the system rely on people who look these up and then post requests for it to be archived?? 17. I think this one http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=38773 is definately a tad too close to this one http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=19075 IMHO, if you could literally find one when looking for the other when you've got bad reception, it's too close. Now, if it's on the other side of a river/cliff, under 50' might not be too bad, since it requires a different approach. 18. ...if you're willing to wait a few weeks once you submit the paperwork for the stuff if you're the winning bidder. Cool site, infosponge. There's a lot of over 1,000 ammo cans for auction @ Ft. Campbell, KY - opening bid only $35... mmm... that's 3.5 cents per box... geez, those army suplus stores mark 'em up! The only problem would be... where the heck do you store 1,000 ammo boxes??? (Before you place them, that is!) This might be an opportunity for some state groups to go in together for dirt-cheap ammo cans. 20. Yup, that was me... trying to find my way back to the parking lot after a couple of wrong turns on the way out from another cache in the area.. Spied UMC's GPS, said 'hi', went on... maybe I didn't sound as friendly as I usually do after hiking about 2 miles, more or less. I didn't think you wanted to be bothered, but then sometimes I can't read people too well... Anyone comming across a chick with a Meridian wearing a shirt with a squirrel/squirrels on it in the Metro Detroit area- don't be afraid to stop and say 'hi' if you wish... I don't mind a quick chat with a fellow cacher... I walk the Maze of Moments, but everywhere I turn to, begins a new beginning, but never finds a finish..

  23. They're the high-quality ones-- sub-meter accuracy ones go for $75/day , sub-centimeter ones go for $700/day (by G.
