  1. It might be a little more work than normal, but I'd think that most people would know someone who could do (that little button on the VERY top row, 3rd from the right on my keyboard), get into a photo editing program, create a new document, and paste & crop the image. I just learned that sneaky little trick a few months ago Of course I'd mention this method in the cache desc, and recommend that they have the phone-a-friend try it out 1st to get the hang of it before attempting the cache. I think I'll go ahead and submit this webcam.... with bonus points for making a 'fish face' at the camera! I walk the Maze of Moments, but everywhere I turn to, begins a new beginning, but never finds a finish... -Enya, Anywhere Is
  2. It looks like the camera is 'inside', but the fish market itself is open to the street on at least 1 side. (from photos on the website, and from my memory of the motivational video I saw on them at work) I can convert the addy to coordinates, and if you take a look at the webcam page before you go, you should be able to figure out where the camera itself is/is pointing to. 3. I was thinking that the Pike Place Fish Market (home of the 'low flying fish') webcam might make a good cache. The place seems to be somewhat of a landmark now, more than just a business. Would it be appropriate to set up a webcam cache here? And if it is accaptable, should I set it up, or leave it to someone in Seattle - if there are any interested cachers there- since I'm way over here in Michigan? 4. Hmm... the article dosen't mention anything about permit fees... try getting with Victory Mike to see what he knows about the fees, he seems to be heading up the communications with the City regarding caches. Besides, mebbe the Press got some stuff mixed up, and the fee is only to PLACE caches, not find them. How would THAT be enforced? Post a ranger at each cache to make sure each finder has their permit?? Ann Arbor seems to be willing to work with us, they just want to make sure caches aren't placed in sensitive areas, and isn't it a good idea in general for the land manager to be in with where the caches are, so they don't get blown to bits becuase they were mistaken for a bomb?!? 5. ... but we don't live in Geocaching Utopia, so that's why we need Walgreens for trinkets and containers.... (Borrowing heavily from a commercial, for those that don't have a Wallgreen's nearby...) 6. The discussion's going on at the MiGO site.... feel free to join in. I think the permit applies to placinga cache, not going out to find them. I walk the Maze of Moments, but everywhere I turn to, begins a new beginning, but never finds a finish... -Enya, Anywhere Is
  7. Personally, I can't wait for it to warm up so I can do some more 'involved' caches. Unfortunately, I don't think we'll be doing very many/too difficult ones on our trip, I burnt out BeerSnob (my husband) on our vacation last year. He's to the point now where he wants to go caching again, this spring. We only did 6 in a 3 day period (though 4 of those were in 1 day, and we also visited 2 lighthouses, a winery, and 2 brewpubs in Traverce City/TC area that same day.. and then back to our tent at Higgins Lake State Park).. how could I get him burnt out? 8. Perelandra sounds like a cool one to do, but we won't have access to the web to get the puzzles! That and we're mainly staying in Indy. If you like puzzles and are ever in the Metro Detroit area for a while, you can try out the 'Not Tellin' series by T'dog. Haven't tried them yet, but they have many cachers up here preplexed, it sounds like. 9. Found it when I was looking up some caches to do when we visit Indiana this year.... The wierdest thing I found was actually Earthling's medal. I walk the Maze of Moments, but everywhere I turn to, begins a new beginning, but never finds a finish... -Enya, Anywhere Is
  10. ...These things have AWESOME accuracy, but no one leaves GPSr food for 'em in the caches! ...the only downside of these babies is that there's nowhere to put your trinkets! ...The cache page says we have to bushwhack thru some pretty dense stuff... I paid $50,000 for this thing, the least they could do was install an automatically retractible antenna! ...Now, Joe.. remember that you have something sticking up 2' above your head... the last thing we need is to give the media another 3 Stoodges-esque video clip! 11. Thanks to Nobonis & Bump, I'll be sending Jeepster over to them soon. Sorry I didn't post an update sooner, I haven't been to the forums here in a bit because of a tb game that started up here in MI. Thanks to all who offered help! 12. The wierdest thing I found was a rectangular piece of metal, maybe about 1.5"x3". From the enscriptions it was from some church(?) in Indiana, said something about 'Earthing', and had some images reminiscent of those on the Voyager type spacecraft (the type to identify our solar system to aliens). Should have kept it, cause it's just so wierd, and now the cache I placed it in is gone... Anyone have any clue what this was about?? Mebbe it was a branch of those Raliens... 13. Jeepster was placed in Bahia Honda Hideout, which has gone missing. I've made a replacement from the copy tags, and was wondering if anyone would be willing to place him in a cache as close as possible to the one that's no longer there if I mailed it over? Thanks!! 14. I'm dying to know what the answers were... can you divulge?? Thanx! I walk the Maze of Moments, but everywhere I turn to, begins a new beginning, but never finds a finish... -Enya, Anywhere Is
  15. Say you just won the lottery. You want to share your good fortune with fellow cachers by creating the cache of your dreams. You can buy any type property you like (within reason. Something more than 1-2 ppl a year would/could visit), place any type props you want to, even hire someone to design and build paths/gardens/etc if you want. What would you do? Anyone already placed youtr ultimate dream cache? I'd love to get about 1,000 acres or more, with decidious and evergreen forrest areas, a decent sized creek, varying landsacpe - flat to hilly. I'd focus on the journey's the thing... and create a multi cache tat takes you through a hedge maze, a 'fairy garden' with windchimes and those marbled glass garden balls, maybe a few other cool gardens that I dream up... and a few out-of place cach hiding places - in a catalog I got recently I saw a fake surveilance camera. Thought that would be a hoot, to attach one of those things to a tree! I walk the Maze of Moments, but everywhere I turn to, begins a new beginning, but never finds a finish... -Enya, Anywhere Is
  16. If you take photos of trees, make sure to take a close-up of the leaf as well. Makes Plant ID easier. It very may well be trees. Some that I don't think are native to Arizona that fit with the song are (just off the top of my head): Raindrops on roses - Golden RAIN tree Snow-flakes that stay on my nose and eye-lashes - SNOWdrift crabapple crisp apple strudel- APPLE Silver white winters - Silver Maple ...if you do go back and take photos, I might be able to help with ID-ing them. 17. I've only given up on 3 caches... (and mostly b/c of hubby). Because of circumstances, I've given up on them in under 20 mins. 1 was supposed to be an easy find, in Frankenmuth. We were on our way up north on vacation, and had alot of driving to do that day, not to mention setting up camp. We gave up after 15 mins, even with the clue we couldn't find it. From the slew of 'no finds' clumped around the date we looked for it, I wondered if someone took it and later replaced it. Might try it next time we're up there. The other was almost a mile hike (1 way) in hot weather. Searched for over 20 mins. There was a ball game on TV that my husband didn't want to miss, so we decided to return another time. I've since returned and found it. The 3rd was UMC's 2nd cache, I gave up on it a bit early after finding his lures on the ground (thought it was plundered). Hadn't read the log saying that the cache was ok, but the lures were missing. Will probably return sometime in the next few months to look for again. 18. Duc996--- Curlex? Hmm.. now that's an application I never thought of... we are talking about the wood fiber matting more commonly used to pervent erosion and keep people off newly seeded areas of turf, yes? purring alien- As for film canisters, I experimented with that, but you can't really fit much into one (I originally thought of the thing because we made them once at Girl Scout Day camp- a quarter to place a phone call, and a couple of band-aids in a film canister). It'll work fine for a couple band-aids and maybe a wipe packet or 2, but even then stuff gets bunched up, and I'd worry about the seams on the band-aids opening up. I've got a bunch of small ziptop baggies- the type you get for beads from a craft store (pretty cheap, too- 100 for about $2). Those work great, and I did sortof personalize it by inserting a paper label I printed with "Geocacher's Micro First Aid Kit" on it, with a list of contents and my avitar pict. 19. hmmm... I'd think a party supply store/GFS type place somewhere would have plastic shot glasses.... just print off your own label & stick it on... not much for practical, but as a sig item I'd definately trade for one! 20. Found the perfect thing.... http://www.bearwood.com/shop/SearchResults.asp?ProdStock=PL%2D100&inexid=85SEH57MA2 Paint it white, print our 'bucket o' doots' label, and volia! You have your sig item! I walk the Maze of Moments, but everywhere I turn to, begins a new beginning, but never finds a finish... -Enya, Anywhere Is
  21. UMC...Do you keep your own 1st aid kit at work, because you don't trust the one your employers provide? Most of the cremes/wipes I've seen in kits have an expiry date- at least something minimal to go by wheather it's good or not... I understand about leaving the stuff all summer/winter in an ammo can, but then, how is that different from the 1st aide supplies in my 'roadside emergency' kit I leave in my car, to freeze and cook? Maybe I should ditch that kit, who knows what's happened to my band-aids in there! (picturing a molten pile of pink goo, now frozen) In the great outdoors, you're never gonna have anywhere near a sterile environment, but I think the general sentiment is 'something is better than noting' and a band-aide will at least keep more dirt from getting on a scrape until you can go home and take better care of yourself. I'm not intending this to be a substitue for a real 1st aid kit, just something handy for cachers to take care of the more common scratches and scrapes that come with wandering off-path in a forest, or as something handy to throw in a purse or daypack, 'just in case'. As always, it's up to the discretion of the finder/user. And of course, if I needed to take care of a minor scrape I'd never use anything unless it's individual packet was still sealed tight.... 22. Unofficially, my sig. item has been teany beanie babies- mainly 'cause I have a bunch collecting dust, and I figured someone else may enjoy them more. Officially, (and once UPS brings my bulk supplies ) my signature item's going to be the micro-first aid kits I brought up in the poll... I'm thinking of getting a nurse's hat with a little red cross for my avatar, and put that picture on the insert in the baggie.... 23. there's plenty in Ann Arbor if you take 23 up from Toledo to Ann Arbor... There's one in Dundee, MI that's fairly new (Tamarack cache), and right off the highway, haven't been there yet. I think New Life Hill a farther south is near an exit.. I've been to that one, a quick find but I wasn't overly impressed. There's several caches right around the 23/94 interchange... sorry, haven't been to any of those yet, to report on conditions... 24. I love to trade, and usually do. If there's stuff that's decent, but nothing I'd like personally, I usually take it and drop it off somewhere else later. There's always the hope that there's a little something that would be cool in a cache... as for SpinnerB82002... Dollar type stores have some good stuff. Some craft stores have some pretty cool things cheap. Look around. Got some trinket or doodad a while back, it's in good shape, but you don't use/need it? Almost anything *in good condition* makes a good trade item, somtehing that might interest someone down the line... 25. I've been thinking of making micro-1st aid kits as a trade item- basically a few bandages, sterile gauze suqare, alchol wipes, anticeptic cream, and sting relief cream packets. I'd probably put them in a small ziptop baggie, and label it as a micro first aide kit. All the supplies would be the individually packaged, single-serve kind you find in most 1st aide kits. Do you guys think this would make a good trade item? I walk the Maze of Moments, but everywhere I turn to, begins a new beginning, but never finds a finish... -Enya, Anywhere Is
