Glad she enjoys it. One of my friends at work is a creative memories consultant, and I tend to collect the stuff as 'prizes' from our meetings and have no real use for it. I don't usually scrapbook the creative memories 'way'. I hardly ever use anything other than pictures and specialty paper (but boy, do I invest in paper!). Sometimes I use paper that's (*gasp!*) not even guaranteed acid free icon_wink.gif

Ok, I've wandered a bit off of the subject of anything GPS related now... icon_wink.gif

FYI, the 'sticker set' I left in http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.asp?ID=3829 (Hey Barney, let's go to Maybury) is another scrapbooking item- I think it's either haloween or one with womens items that look like the stuff you see little kids dress up in when they pretend they're grandma (dress, pink hat, handbag).

Hopefully the cache is still there - there's a no-find on it, and the hiding spot was pretty obvious once you came near enough.

  3. I was thinking of starting a scrapbooking themed cache- where people could trade stickers, die-cuts, largee scraps of patterened paper, etc. I was wondering if there would be much of a demand for this type of cache, and if people would eventually make a return trip to exchange more scrapbook stuff. Any input if I should start one up?

    Thanks!

  4. Don't know if it's been discussed before, but would we be able to get state lines drawn on the USA map? Also, maybe get the Great Lakes drawn in to help define Michigan's borders? icon_wink.gif Down the line a zoom in/zoom out map feature might be nice...

  6. Hmm.. how about this for the hook- the colors could be painted on a wood disk attached to the back, maybe?

It's amazing how many interesting and diverse talents everyone here has!! The hook sounds like a really cool idea!

  7. KD9KC-

By your post, I can't tell for sure if you're asking where I got them... Or about the tiles. In case anyone is interested, here's the info:

First set I ordered yesterday thru ebay- Total was $5.75 for a set of 10. Their ebay store is: http://www.stores.ebay.com/id=9806140

*Then* I found out that they have a regular online store: http://www.chinadirectstore.com

If you don't mind placing a $50 order for papercuts, you can get the 'small' sets (the papercuts are about 3"x4", according to the site- and have 8-10 peices) for $1.50/set (under 20 cents a piece). Check out the Wholesale page for more info. Don't know what shipping is, but from looking on e-bay it seems to be reasonable. I'm going to wait till I get the set I ordered on e-bay before I plunk down $50. Was thinking of getting some of the other sets as general trinkets. If they look as good as on the webpages, they should make very nice, inexpensive trinkets.

  8. That sounds like a cool idea- wish I had the time to make something... I've checked out a ton of promotional items places, and found them to bee too expensive for me, besides pens and pencils. I wanted soemthing a little different.

I'd been looking around to see what I could do and remembered something I had seen a while back (on e-bay, while hunting for items for my squirrel collection)- a set of Chinese papercut squirrels. I was thinking of using these as my sig item, backing it with cardboard, and taping it between waxpaper and cardboard so ppl. can mount it themselves later if they want to- and attach an address-label with a pict of a squirrel and my nickname. (placed in a zip-top baggie, of course!)

What do you guys think of this? I've got a pict of one below.

A while back we had bought a box of 'beer coastes of the world', and Beersnob was thinking of using those (they ARE unused!) as his sig. item, with addy label attached. Any input on these would be appreciated! Thanks!

  9. I'm a newbie female cacher- I read an article about geocaching in the newspaper earlier this year (the Detroit Freepress- if I remember right, they showed caching in a mainly good light). My husband (Beersnob) enjoys gadgets, and would hint now and then about getting one for our hiking trips. Several weeks ago, I saw a message on the backpacker.com chat page about this site, so I checked it out. Got the Gps, and now I'm completely hooked, and am dragging Beersnob into it (he's interested, but not as enthusiastice as I am)

  10. About Mctoys... I recently unearthed a box of mini beanie babies that I got several years ago (I have my mother-in-law to blame for *that* temporary insanity - she got me into it). They're still in their original bags, so I was considering placing them where I thought kids would be likely to be caching with parents. Is this type of stuff considered 'junk' by most, or just the Mctoys that look like they've been in the 'free' bin at a garage sale? (now THAT I can understand...)

  11. It's not a geocoin, but this might be of interest:

I was looking around for items that I could possibly use as a signature item, and found this website for squashed pennies: http://www.geocities.com/eureka/suite/9098/

I inquired about the costs, and it's $140 to create a die and 300 coins (min. order, I guess). He'll do 1,000 on the first 'printing' for $200. He keeps the die, and if you need more later can make them at 100/$10 plus postage.

  12. For me, it's being able to find it. Just did 2 in 1 park the other day, and they were totally different experiences. as long as those placing a new cache try to lead people to a different experience thaqt the existing ones don't provide, I'm all for it.

Also, as a side note, Michigan state parks charge $4/day $20/annual pass for entry. People visiting Michigan from other states may appreciate multiple caches in the same park, since they're paying for it anyways.

  13. I think it's a great idea. I was considering scanning in all my bug tags so if one went MIA I could print out a new tag, laminate it, and attach it to a new hitchhiker. The new bugs could be the same way- something you can print and laminate yourself, and re-print if necessary.

  14. hmm... does anyone know if they add something to make it more flexible (equavalent to the feeling you get when you coat your fingers with several layers of elmer's glue)? Or maybe it is just that way when you apply ALOT instead of just splashing a bit on yourself accidentally?

  15. Huh... I wouldn't be too sure it's the EXACT same thing...

When I cut myself pretty good about a year and a half back (at home, so can't claim a 'battle scar' from outdoor activity icon_frown.gif ) I went to the emergency room to get it taken care of. The Dr. used the liquid bandage stuff on me, to my recollection he said it was 'similar to' superglue. From superglue experience in the past, it tends to become very hard once dry on the skin. The stuff used on me was a bit more flexible.

Unless it was crazyglue/something else I had used, and superglue actually is a bit more flexible, then I'm just typing up BS without knowing what it was I'm talking about... icon_wink.gif

  17. hmm.. The plastic baggie should work nicely. I don't thnk 'coons would bother herb or flower seeds. I'll probably have to make a note to avoid using veggie seeds, thou...

  18. I was thinking of starting a couple of bugs. the first one would be 'Squeaky Clean', attached to a bar-of-soap sized linen drawstring bag, and a rubber duckie. It's goal would be to travel to each state, with each 'finder' taking the bar of soap it has on it, and place a new bar of soap in the bag. The soap should be something out-of the ordinary- herbal, homemade, those soaps that have little 'scenes' in them, or imbeded objects... anything out-of the ordinary and in good taste.

I was also thinking of a 'gardening bug'.. along the same lines, it would have a bag to place a packet of seeds in, to exchange seeds as it moves... it's goal would be to see (and be photoed) in all types of gardens across the us.

Do you think this type of travelbug turned themed cache is a good idea? I've been looking at photos of travel bugs and thought the travelling cache bug idea would be interesting to try.

  19. I'm new to geocaching and was wondering about 'possessing' more than 1 hitchhiker at a time... (not from the same cache, or dropping more than 1 in the same cache) I'm going on vacation later this month, and was thinking about picking up a bug or 2 (maybe 3 at most) locally if my vacation would take them closer to their goal, and likewise picking up some when I was on vacation, to take to caches close to home- or at other points I visit on my vacation.

I'd definately have them all to a new cache within 2 weeks of taking them from the old.... is this acceptable?

Also, does anyone know how quickly the bugs are being shipped out when you order some? I hoped to create some and drop them off on vacation, and I just ordered them this morning.

    Thanks!
