  1. drill your hole and put silicone gasket maker (red permatex 26C here (pretty inexpensive)) on the eye bolt or stud make sure you use washers to maximise the surface area of sealed gasket tighten the nut let cure and your container is waterproof again
  2. A Better geocache map to include an option to turn on or off a 528 ft diameter ring around the pointer to easily show if a spot is to close to another cache ALSO to show coords when you click on a spot on the map. just my $0.02
  3. We cache as a family until the kids get old enough or think its not cool to spend time with their parents anymore but I always carry sidearm for protection it has come in handy a few times with wildlife and once with guy thinking he was going to rob a gas station while my family was in it needless to say he ended up rethinking his options.
  4. i use a DNF as extra fuel to find the next time i visit that area i think they are motivational plus they also show the CO that something is wrong if there is a trend of DNF's
  5. any swap meet in WI you can find ammo cans for 7.62 cal ammo for $8 each the next size bigger for about $12 each I actually went to a garage sale and bought several ammo cans(7.62 cal) for $5 (package deal) delaneys surpls in sauk county wi had a pile of them last time i was there (my pre geaocache days)not sure of price
  6. On the SD card you need to create a Garmin folder and then in that folder a GPX folder. Copy the two files from the PQ into the newly created Garmin\GPX folders. I just figured that out thanks for the reply though
  7. I cant get my gps to access the sd card with an unzipped PQ on it what is the issue or what am i doing wrong?
  8. I had 130 finds before I made my first hide and it is a 4 for difficulty not enough hard caches in my area at least that I have come across yet
  9. we cache every weekend whether it is 1 or 20 in the nice weather time of year in the colder snowy months we wait for a nice day to get out a 4 year old and cold or deep snow doesn't go well together but we started in jan of this year we are still new at this but getting better
  10. Yep, its annoying, particularly by the 5th time you have to go out and remove the throwdown only to find your cache was right were you hid it in the first place. what is meant by a throwdown??? Throwdown = Assume for argument's sake that you hunt for a cache, and for whatever reason, you failed to locate it. There are some amongst our ranks who would not accept the deserved DNF, and would instead, whip out a film can from their backpack, and plop it down where they think the cache should be, claiming it as a find. This is a throwdown. Many who do this delude themselves into believing they are doing so for the common good. i see thanks i have run into that already with a stop sign micro they werent able to find it so they left a new log in a baggie wedged in a crack of the stop sign timber when all they had to do was look on the ground low and behold it was there i replaced the original cache in its place and removed the "throwdown"
  11. Get permission to hide it in a library!! It may be finding a lost home soon, the ball is set in motion. IT HAS BEEN RELEASED SET FREE FOR ALL TO ENJOY

  13. Technically it would be fine, especially if it's your own property. You could let people know that you didn't do any digging to hide the cache. However, problem is, someone might like your cache and copy it by digging a hole in a public park. i thought about that also that is one of the big reasons i am still on the fence with pursuing this what if ill get a few hides in by the time that landscpe project comes up gives me more tim to think about it thanks
  14. micro container on a stop sign, no passing sign, yield, sign any road sign really on a side note we are new at this also we started in december\january it is such a blast to do we all love it in our family even the 4 year old sqwatch
  15. here is a what if scenario say i have to do some landscaping and in the process a hole was created by removing a big rock and was only partially refilled would that be a problem to use that hole for a cache and use a decorative paver to cover it? what are your thoughts?
  16. we have been really lucky we have only had 2 or 3 DNF's out of 118 BUT we always go back within the 2 or 3 days and look extra hard we dont like being defeated by an inanimate object also helps that there are a crap load of stop sign micros around which really helps the dnf to find ratio but the kids still love those caches so its all good
  17. had to bush whack 75 yards through waist deep thorns with a 9 year old and 4 year old to before we found the poorly placed trail sign on our way out by the edge of a field instead of by the buildings or the trails
  18. i posted a question and thru trial and error i figured it out so i deleted the body instead of the the entire post which i havent figured out yet how to do

    GSAK?

    What does GSAK stand for?
  20. Get permission to hide it in a library!! It may be finding a lost home soon, the ball is set in motion.
  21. That's because there is no definitive distance. Most reviewers use the "would someone hunting a cache be easily visible from the school and likely to raise an alarm" standard. It could be 50 feet in a city or 500 yards in rural Nebraska. thanks your explantion is a better answer than the guideline which seems to be raising more questions than answers
  22. Sorry for getting off topic but what is the guideline for the proximity to a school I have not been able to find a definitive distance or even a reference to a imaginary distance "out of line sight" "not within sight of" or anything along those lines. I live really close to a school but would like to put a hide in my front yard.
  23. Get permission to hide it in a library!! My local reviewer already said he/she would deny it. It is to close to a cache already placed
