  1. I've used a program called Robogeo for a couple of years now. I'm very impressed. It compares the active track with the embedded exif date stamps and will then write the location info back into the jpeg file and/or text stamp the bottom of the jpeg. I use Google's Picasa photo organizer which recognizes the location data. http://robogeo.com/home/
  2. I have used the GSAK macro (GarminPOI_gpx.txt) to export waypoints from GSAK into a .gpx file for upload to my 60cx using the POI Loader but the icons show up as dots rather than geocache icons. What do I need to do to change the icons when using the macro export?
  3. Franson GPSgate utility will take the Garmin data stream and change it into NMEA and output on a virtual com port. I use it all the time with a GPS-18 puck with USB connector. Always works great. Cost $10US.
  4. I have a GPS-18 for my laptop using Garmin's NRoute (free download) routing software. I would give it a 8/10. My only complaint is that it sometimes takes a few minutes to get a sat lock. Other times it's almost instant. If you want to use the GPS-18 with any other software, then download the Franson GPSGate utility. It translates the garmin data stream into NMEA and outputs it on a virtual com port. Very slick. Always works for me.
  5. Do a google search for a utility called Franson GPSGate. It takes the Garmin data stream from a USB Garmin 18 and creates virtual com ports with the data converted to NMEA. I use it with programs like Streets and Trips. Never had a problem with it. They had a special running not too long ago. It cost $9USD.
  6. The new version of Garmin Mapsource will export its waypoints directly to Google Earth. It transfers routes and tracks as well.
  7. I just got the updated Metroguide Canada v4 and am quite impressed by the level of detail now included for most cities in the frozen north. I have been playing around with the auto routing function on the pc and I've noticed that it tends not to make proper turns at some intersections but will go past the intersection, make a u-turn then come back to continue on the route. Nothing I do will force the correct turn. Does anyone else experience this and is there a solution? Breezeway
  8. If you have Oziexplorer you can use OziPhotoTool which can be downloaded free from: http://oziphototool.alistairdickie.com/ It will compare the active track with the date/time stamp of the digital cameras jpegs and create an Ozi map with waypoints of where the photos were taken. Works pretty good. You can only use the active track and not saved tracks and you should take a picture of the gps time to be able to set up the comparison.
  9. You could try this site. http://members.shaw.ca/davepatton/maps.html He is selling 4 CDs of nasa satellite imagery of Canada. I think he is charging $50C for materials, his time and shipping. I believe they are calibrated for Oziexplorer. BreezeWay

  11. I have had a Banana Republic 22 pocket photo-journalist vest for many years. I find it works well for geocaching. There is a top right pocket that has a clear vinyl cover that I slip my Legend into while still keeping the lanyard around my neck. The tracks I get have very little breaks in them regardless of the terrain. The other pockets accomodate everything else I need. Rain jacket, water, palmpilot, wallet, etc. They were about $120 back in the late 80's. Oh yeah, it's still in near perfect shape despite my efforts.
  12. GPS Trackmaker is free and will do want you want as well as allow you to insert and calibrate a scanned map into the background. I use it quite a bit. www.gpstm.com
  13. Actually....if you go to the control panel and remove Mapsource from your computer, then copy the CD contents to a directory on your hard drive and then reinstall from there, you can run Mapsource without the CD.
  14. So what is the end result of changing my Garmin Legend from True North reference to Magnetic? I noticed that my track from home to work yesterday using True North was exactly the same as today using Magnetic (as well as not being anymore accurate to the roads on the Mapsource maps ). What is the benefit of using one or the other? Thanx BreezeWay

  16. You can get a manual in pdf format from this web address http://www.magellangps.com/en/support/oldprod.asp
  17. That has been my experience too. It comes into Mapsource as a route, but only with the bare essentials for details. What other details would you be looking for?
  18. After some fiddling, I found a relatively easy way to export routes and waypoints from Streets and Trips to Mapsource. 1) Design a route in S&T and save 2) Use freeware GPS Utility to open 3) Change save options to PCX5 and save the data as a route (rte) file. 4) Import the rte file into Mapsource and voila. For Canada, Streets and Trips has far more city detail than Mapsource does, so being able to get detailed routes from S&T to Mapsource helps me quite a bit for car travel.
  19. Does anyone know of a utility that will convert S&T routes to Garmin routes? thanx
  20. Does anyone know if one can turn off the "approaching turn" announce on a Garmin Legend. thanx in advance
  21. Would it be possible to have a search option that would display all your search results on one page rather than 25 at a time? It would make downloading the .loc files much easier. I searched for all caches within 100 miles of home and there were 8 pages of results which means 8 *.loc files, which I then have to cut and paste to put them all into one master file.
