  1. Those are the ASCII codes for those individual "special" characters. It's common in HTML and other types of coding.
  2. My longest streak was only 18 days. If you work full time, this is harder than it sounds . Current streak: 1 day! If you check "It's not about the numbers" there are cachers that have streaks that have been intact for years! Congrats on your 100 days, I never even came close. DCC
  3. That exact thing happened to me as well. Was FTF on an awesome placement and a number of months later the owner moved out of State. Not wanting to see said "awesome placement" disappear, I adopted it! But when I logged it, it wasn't mine! DCC
  4. Whether I'm in the woods or on the street, I'm always aware of my surroundings. This is a constant condition, not just while Geocaching. DCC
  5. Did you do the one in Folsom, or one of the demo's at GW6? I did the "Whack-A-Lackey" Demo. DCC
  6. Hey, those are great goals too! Quads, Counties, etc! I'm working on the Bay Area Quad Challenge currently, and getting soooooo close! Mtn-Man... we appreciated the folks trying to reach that "food-goal" of feeding that hungry mob. It was great! DCC
  7. After reading another post about a record numbers run, I was wondering, how many folks made attempts for personal bests while visiting GW6? Here's the details on ours: - Three of us on the run, Me, Sargenv and Binky Del Mar. - All three names on every log. - No pre-planning (we did a lot of "next closest") - 3 stops for food/drinks/snacks - Run was finally ended by darkness and swarming mosquitos Number of... attempted caches = 74 DNF's = 4 found caches! = 70 other cachers we met in the field = 13 bad puns and jokes were told = Too many to count! Bloody Mary's I consumed before starting the run = 1 times we were swarmed by bees! = 1 times we drove past that Gas Station/Mini Mart in "downtown" Wheatland = Seemed like a hundred! bushes and trees I had to stick my head in = must have been around 40! times our forward progress was stopped by flooding = 1 times I changed batteries in the new Colorado = 2 times we took ourselves seriously = 0 My final results: Most I've ever found in a day! Most I've ever found over a weekend! Most I've ever found in a calendar Month! Fastest 100 finds (2 days)! Most fun I've had in Months! Anyone have stories they want to share? DCC
  8. Congrats on your achievement! I wonder how many people made "personal record" cache runs during GW6? I know I did! We started out with a great "sit down" breakfast, didn't make any plans as to what caches we'd be attempting, stopped for snacks twice, and all threee of us got out and searched at 99% of the stops (hey, nobody's perfect)! We found around 70 and had an absolute blast! It does kinda lead to "roadside cache" burnout though. Good times... I'm sure all involved in your run have many fun memories. DCC
  9. I don't know if "bogus" is really a good term to use. I don't know the exact conditions regarding this specific cache, but we frequently find caches in Northern California that have "decoy" containers involved. You find the container (usually in a very obvious place) and open it up to find a little note that says something like "sorry, keep looking". So this "extra" stage may very well be a viable part of this multicache, not just some leftover geo-trash. DCC
  10. I'll second that! I just got my Colorado 400t the week before GeoWoodstock. In fact it found it's first cache on the way to the event. It went on (with my help ) to find over 120 caches over the weekend without a hitch. The paperless features are wonderful. No complaints yet. And I know that it was delivered with updated firmware. I have a friend who bought one right when they came out and he confirmed it. I would love to have the "average waypoint" feature back though! DCC
  11. Just made and upgrade and found over 120 caches during GeoWoodstock 6 with my new Colorado 400t. The paperless features ROCK! DCC
  12. It's been a long while since anyone accused me of being smarmy... Let's see...hm with event caches I'm averaging 215 caches a year and without them I'm averaging 194 caches a year. Ooooh, serious number bumping going on there! Didn't mention any names or single anyone out... just a general observation and my opinion on the subject. Keeping the newbie forum "flame free" is always a good goal. (Don't wanna scare 'em off)! DCC
  13. This is of course everyone's opinion... so here's mine! Geocaching.com is a cache listing service. If the cache is not listed on Geocaching.com, then it shouldn't be logged on Geocaching.com. The reason "temp" caches are not approved by the Groundspeak reviewers is that they don't meet the listing requirements for saturation or permanence. Multiple logging is just a smarmy way to bump one's numbers. Find your temps, enjoy your event, log it once. DCC
  14. I've got a photo of myself standing in front of that sign. That one cracked me up! And there's a cache right there as well! DCC
  15. If I'm correct, it will support any font that the person reading the post has installed on their local machine. Comic sans may work, but I'll only see it if I have it installed locally. DCC
  16. The Friday Night Meet & Greet was awesome! Heard estimates of up to 700 people! Wish all of the forum regulars could be here... I did get to meet Snoogans and family and am hoping to meet some of the other forum folk. Wish you were all here! Driver Carries Cache
  17. Howdy! I've been working as a Web Interface Developer since 1997. Building for everyone from Fortune 500 companies to Yahoo! Store owners, and internet start-ups. My personal site (Also not looking for a job ) DCC
  18. Shouldn't this be in the Regional Forums and not the website forum? DCC
  19. If you can't make it for GeoWoodstock, do check into the Geocachers of the Bay Area. Members organize events all year long. There's usually a couple a month at least. An event usually involves food (sometimes we picnic or BBQ in a local park, or meet at a local pizza joint) games, fun, meeting all the other local cachers and telling stories about all our crazy adventures. There are a huge number of very active geocachers all around the Bay Area. I think it's even more fun when you've met the person who hid the cache and you recognize some of the names in the log book. It just makes it so much more personal. Loved your story... it so reminds me of how thrilled I was when we found that first tupperware bowl under a shrub in a local park! It's like you've just been made privy to some big hidden secret! Have fun out there, and If you make it to GeoWoodstock (or any other event), say hi! DCC
  20. I'm going to guess (from the three caches you found) that you're in Northern California. Just so you know, the largest Geocaching event of the year, GeoWoodstock 6 is being held next weekend in Wheatland (outside of Sacramento) and there will be a large number of Geocachers from all over the world. If you'd like to meet the local community, come join us (see the links below) and if you can't make it, there are plenty of other events here in the Bay Area and knowing your fellow Geocachers just makes it even more fun. GeoWoodstock 6 GeoWoodstock 6: Friday Night Meet & Greet and a link to the local Bay Area group: Geocachers of the Bay Area Hope you can join us! DCC
  21. The web developer in me just stuck a gun in his mouth. DCC
  22. According to Garmin's website, while they use the words "high sensitivity" the 60CSx is also WAAS enabled. DCC
